Thanks for the heads up!

Just to clarify, the banke counters in the airport are open 24/7 but the money changers in the city (e.g. Taipei) are closed on weekends (like in Msia). Is my understanding correct? This is because i will be arriving in Taipei on a Saturday (night).

I booked my train ticket online this morning but I noticed that the ticket taking due that is TOMOROW. As I will only be flying there next week, does that mean I can only booked my ticket next week ?

No experience on changing during late nite..so no comment..but as any other airports in the world, the duty free/ money changers never sleep so pretty safe-lah....Changing in downtown bank will be slightly cheaper by NT30 but lotsa red tapes!! i have to wait about 20min in one of the bank in Taipei, bcos they need my passport, photostate & get clearance from their Manager!! Changing at the airport....almost instance. except the NT$30 commission.

No idea...Worst to worst, buy after you reach Taipei..probably buy a day b4. I bought mine on the same day thus, all the Taroko Express ticket from Hualien back to Taipeis sold out. Taroko express schedule is very limited compare to the slower train. That one you need not booking but be prepared to stand or gave way when valid ticket holder asking for hios/her seat.

Ok. Thanks! My plan is to change at the airport. That is why i'm concerned if the money changers (i.e. banks) close their counters early esp on weekends. USD is now selling @ ard 3.37. I'm holding my fingers crossed. Down Down sweat.gif

When u change USD in Msia, please remember to request for new note(bill). This is because old note will be charge extra TWD20/note at taiwan airport and according to them most of the money changers in downtown didnt really accept old note. Dont ask me, I dunno how to identify which is new and which is old. This is what i xperience with one of the money changer at taiwan airport last month.

Yesterday i went to WawasanSentosa change for USD. I notice that there have small WawasanSentosa company chop at the back on every notes. The chop is for wat purpose.
It this acceptable by money changer in Taiwan when i convert USD to NTW.

Have some 1 experience this before and how to check whether the note are tender or not.

BTW, check the pinned topic on money xcahnge for other choices aother than Wawasan..recently I was recommended that there is one money changer located inside NZ margazine shop not far from Jusco MV which is cheaper & sure indeed..~!

Also someone tried the Public Bank in Bkt Bintang & notice that they also cheaper than wawasan.

On the bank notes, I was given all >2005 notes so should be good..Wawasan is currently the taikor liao so their notes very fresh & no small change wan..so must be good too?

Just go to Mid Valley to change back the newest USD note.

FYI~

Taiwanese currency is fully convertible and there are no restrictions on taking currency into or out of the island. Currency exchange is possible internationally, although you will get a much better rate if you wait until you arrive at the airport to exchange currency at the 24 hour window. Most banks in Taipei and Kaohsiung will also exchange money or offer cash advances on credit or debit cards. Should you bring American currency, please be sure to bring newer bills as the banks and exchange-centers (such as in department stores) will only accept the newer bills (bills from 1996 and 2003 are not accepted at most places, due to a high proportion of forgeries bearing these years). Bills which are torn or damaged will probably not be changed, and old-style small-bust bills are not accepted. Taiwan National Bank will take older bank notes and bank notes that are wrinkled or torn for exchange. Department stores will not exchange bills older than 1997. Don't forget to show your passport!

TW currency bought in Malaysia

Beware older notes without metallic security stripe. If you are willing to buy these, demand a very good rate! Not accepted on the streets, although very easy to do, must go to specific bank to exchange.

Interesting tourist site

If wandering around City Hall - 101 area, take a walk in the 诚品 Eslite Bookstore Hsinyi Branch. It is just behind one of the MRT exits in the Eslite Department Store (high end brands). The bookstore has several floors, multilingual, plenty of seating, coffee, videos, souvenirs, even Japanese toilets, open until 2am.

Well, this one abit of headache, lotsa money changers in KL having 2 tiers rate as what I found out from few experiences doing that...Those converting US50 & above wilol get advertised rate & those wth smaller notes i.e below US$50 till US$1 will be agetting lower than advertised rate. Wawasan als one of many money changer doing this!! mad.gif Anything below US$1 so far none of money changers I tried wanna accept!

Thus to get good rate, change to a bigger notes...US$50 is the best..Otherwise check other money changers around accepting smaller than US$50 although having worst rate than wawasan...
