SLV Business Hotel room rates

Normal sweater only good for 17C and above. You need winter jacket for under 17C if you don't want to catch a cold.

Can someone please advise if it would be better to change MYR->USD first in Malaysia, then have the USD exchanged to NTD when arrived in the airport? Currently, RM11.05 == NTD100 (source from http://www.wawasanmoneychanger.com.my/exchangeRates.asp).

Im departing to Taipei on Jan 8th. Thank you.

Do check my edited 1st post for more info on places really recommended. Try to escape from Taipei bcos it's just a normal city..nothing much there..& shopping for clothing during winter month nothing interesting bcos Wufenpu currently only selling winter thick clothing..u wanna buy those back?? & the price also nothing great compare to malaysia.

For such a short Period, spend a day at Taroko Gorge near Hualian...That's the best of Taiwan for me....Others - Yehliu (2nd best) & Dansui (The scenery towards Bali opposite Dansui...the Guanying shan in Bali almost like an extinct Volcano...) Jiufen..suppose going there for scenery but covered by thick mist..nothing great wth one narrow walkway full of human...Tragffic jam...nothing great if u go on Weekend! Avoid weekend if u intend to go Jiufen!!

Also dun goto the National Palace Museum..nothing great too & overratted if u asked me..I dun wanna pay to just read those China Palaces' paintings, & vases collections. I want top know pre-historic china not the palace's collection!! Only a small portion on top floor dedicated to pre-historic thingy..haizzz..

You can venture to Taipei during nite time after you are back from Taroko/Dansui/Yehliu/Jiufen - places to makan - Ximending, Jiantan MRT station (Shihlin nite market), or even to Longshan temple..one bloody under-rated old city in Taipei...lotsa traditional & even nice food here & also the 1st tourist nite market in Taipei even longer than Shihlin. thumbup.gif Otherwise, u can try those foodcourts & restaurants inside the underground mall & also the new Q-Square at the back of Railway station...My personal experience...Shopping in KL is much more interesting.....Even the food..

Also in Taipei, reserve abit & pay to goto the top of Taipei 101 ..ehh actuyally 89 flr nia...& dun waste your time inside the eclosed area...go furthjer to 92nd floor- It's open air viewing area... thumbup.gif

Actually, there are a lot of good info in this thread. Depends on what you want - scenery, history, architecture or shopping and eating or a mix of both. You also have to consider how many full days you have in Taipei.

Added on January 12, 2010, 4:25 pmHi Stimix & AEIOU, thanks for the photos and info. Really been helpful

Stimix, a quick question, any idea those money changes @ taoyuan airport open till what time? Or are they operating 24hours? Cheers!

Ic.... Any idea whether there is a difference in the rates charged by money changers as compared to banks (counters) in Taoyuan? I heard that the bank counters actually open for 24 hours. Is this true?

Actually all mony changers inthe airport ARE BANKS. there are no private money changers in Taiwan...

The rate at the airport & downtown is almost the same..The diff is..Downtown Taipei, there is no NT$30 commission dedcuated but in the airport, NT30 will be charged irregardless of how much u change

The bank counter at the airport is 24/7. Better change it all upon arrival, because there is no private money changers like in Malaysia. If you run out of NT on the eve of weekend, you will have to wait for the bank to open on Monday. BTW, I'm letting go my Taiwan prepaid sim card for RM20 including postage. The sim card is valid for 6 moths from 27th December 2009 and still have >NT100 in it. The advantage of having the Taiwan number before leaving Malaysia is that you can inform your frequently called friends or relatives or business contacts first at local sms rate. Once you are in Taiwan, each sms send back to Malaysia using maxis will kena roaming cost RM1.
