yeah better if u intend to ride on the speed tilted train to Hualien rather than the normal train. Speed train (Taroko Express) will only takes 2 hrs whereas the normal train..well..almost 3.5 hrs!! shocking.gif

We were lucky managed to get the 8 am taroko express to Hualien but need to settle down wth "standby" tickets on return trip via normal train bcos Taroko express from Hualien already full. Misery thinking of the 4:30pm train that took us back to Taipei by 8pm...damn hungry by that time.. sad.gif ..Sumore both speed & normal train ticket is the same interm of pricing! You can book via internet

Not sure on the online booking because I only found out most of ppl going to hualien/Taroko via Taroko express do book online from the ticketing staff. She told me I should hv book online bcos ticket back from Hualien always full!

However u still can buy the standby ticket on normal train wth free seating but once those ppl wth fixed seating, you hv to vacate your seats...abit troublesome hunting for free seating..sometime u need to stand!!

HI pumpkin 88

the easiest way to get around is MRT and cab, the bus route can be confusing at times so forget about it

from airport right, you need a take a bus to the city. and there are different bus operators, so you might want to look here - http://www.taoyuanairport.gov.tw/english/t...on/taipei_e.jsp (in english)

accommodation wise, i would suggest you to stay near to Taipei Main Station, its like our kl sentral. try City Inn, City Suites, Forte Orange Business Hotel. price is about rm 200 to rm 250 per nite for a double room. call them to make a room reservation and ask them to advise on which bus to take from the airport.

for places of interest u may refer here - http://kampungboycitygal.com/2009/07/execu...i-yilan-taiwan/

i would advise u to apply for the Digital Tour Buddy (consist of a hand set, phone charger and important numbers such as visitor centre, help line, police station). Remember to apply online 7 days before departure. u can alwiz dial the speed dial in case u got lost or what. smile.gif

dun worry too much and have fun in taiwan!

My sister will be going to Taiwan on the 4th of Jan. She just showed me her camera etc and I suddenly recalled my bad experience in oversea as I forgot to bring the adapter/ converter for the charger.

Can you recommend me where to buy a reasonably price and working adapter/ converter in Klang Valley for Taiwan.

Taiwan day 1 - Taipei. Drizzling rain and temperature about 14C.
Arrived Taoyan air port on 27th December 2009 around 8pm+. Changed USD to NT @ 31.91 at the air port, this confirmed Stimix's tip to change to USD fist in Malaysia yield better exchange rate. We headed straight to Shilin night market for Fried chicken steak with stuffed cheese 爆醬雞排,Tempura (甜不辣),Stinky tofu (臭豆腐)

Put up a night at SLV Business Hotel 君迪商旅. This was my first time to experience the Taiwan's famous "Drive In Hotel "汽車旅館.
Observe the private car parking lot that can be closed by roller shutter door and a private lift that bring the guests up to the room directly in total privacy.

Observe the room's door.... it's a lift door. Worry not, there is an additional layer of wooden sliding door in front of the the lift opening for extra privacy.

The room was furnished with a big Jacuzzi pool for 2 person and 42" LCD TV and some "ahem" channels
