I'll be going to Taiwan end of May 2010. rclxms.gif Am so excited planning my itinerary now~

Anyone knows how's the weather like during that time? I know it's towards the end of Spring and going into Summer. So the weather will be like Malaysia? Or hotter/cooler?

In case anyone doesn't know....

The Taiwan Travel Office is at Wisma Goldhill on the 25th floor. If you bring a non-returnable copy of your air bookings, they will give you a pile of brochures and either an MRT card or hotspring ticket, not both.  There is only NT$50 usuable value on the MRT card, which costs NT$100 empty. Over 50 public hotspring resorts are listed on the back of the pass but you can use it for only one, so maybe worth NT$250-300.

(If anyone happens to get these and not planning to use them, I will be happy to not waste!)

Thanks for sharing this. Wisma Goldhill is just behind my office haha. tongue.gif

Just wondering, can i collect the stuff on behalf of my friends?

Is there any validity period? Cos i'll be going to Taiwan next year May. If i were to collect the stuff now, can i still use them on May?

imma going there for that too so it not rubbish

Yup agree.

Different people have different preferences. Don't simply assume a place you don't like to go as "rubbish".

Hey guys,

Need some opinions here.

1. Should i look for a hotel in Ximending or Taipei Main Terminal?
2. Is there anything interesting/to shop at these 2 areas past 11pm? Some people said that there's nothing much in Ximending during midnights. We don't want to go back hotel at 11pm and watch TV. tongue.gif
3. Is it sufficient to spend 1.5 days in Hua Lian?

Thanks.

Taipei main station is convenient but lack of cheap restaurants & food compare to Ximengding area. Ximending is alive-lah..Nevertheless at the back of main station, there is one new gigantic shopping mall called Q-square...more like hi-end mall & hi-end food court so dun expect hawker pricing...Hawker pricing in taipei is ~NT$30-NT$50, whereas malls' food courts >NT$50 to NT$200 food.

Hua liean town is rather small & ppl going there just for the Chin Sui cliff & Taroko Gorge that can be covered within 5-6 hrs wth 2 -3hrs each by train from Taipei.. Day trip via early express train at 8am, arriving at 10am & 5-6hrs tour to Taroko/chin sui cliff & thereafter returning to train station ~4pm is sufficient.

Oh i see. So which means it's recommended for budget travelers to stay in Ximending hotels.. Thanks.

I stayed in CityInn 2 last month. It's located behind Taipei Main Station, about 5min walk.
Opposite got KFC, McDonald and 7 Eleven. The room is quite new, staff very friendly, got free internet, MAC computer at the lobby.  thumbup.gif

What's the rate per night? Just wondering if you know they have a room that fits 4 person?

Guys, what do you think of the cab fare there? We have 4 persons here. Should we share a cab touring around or take the MRT instead? This could determine whether we should stay near a Metro station or not.

Anyone stayed in Rainbow Hotel (長虹大飯店) before? What's your review on it?

Now i start to gan cheong already. 3 more months to go. Have done a lot of readings but none is planned. tongue.gif

By the way, Happy CNY to all~

Ouch express trains to Hualien are always fully booked?

How long do the regular trains and buses take from Taipei main terminal to Hualien? By the way, anyone knows whether there are buses going to Hualien from Taoyuan airport?

I'm trying to book the express train tickets from Taipei to Hualien. However, from the schedule on the website, it shows:

自強 1082 山 彰化 至 花蓮 17:02 19:12 2小時10分 逢週日行駛。太魯閣號,不發售無座票。
自強 1069 -- 樹林 至 花蓮 17:40 19:46 2小時6分 逢週五至日行駛。太魯閣號,不發售無座票。

Did you guys board the train to Hualien from Taipei in Taipei Main Terminal or other train stations (彰化 and 樹林)? From the schedule above, it's just the boarding location that is different?

Mine was TWD2200 for 4 persons in a Toyota Wish. Perhaps you could get a better price for a smaller car since there's only 2 of you.
