If Proof of Stake starts to replace Proof of Work, all the miners hardware will go to waste and put miners out of business.

Just a quick one since I am at work - Mining pools won't run out of business as you can pool to stake coins. Any invested hardware can be sold.

And I have yet to touch base on the use cases of other coins (e.g. Ripple for fast cross border transfers or Ethereum for smart contracts), and the blockchain as a whole (in which a public ledger requiring incentivization to ensure security of the blockchain hence the introduction of minable returns). But I'll leave that aside for another time.

Lowyat forum website was experiencing technical issues and I was not able to log in at all over the past few days.
I read back the previous posts and originally wanted to reply, but you guys already gave a brilliant reply.
Kudos guys.

Ahhhh... and I thought we want to have some intelligent discussion. So you're saying gold has no inherent value and only for speculation? Scam too right? For your information, gold reserve in this world is 170,000,000 kg with an estimated value in trillions. And that's only talking about gold. I guess you will cry scam for a lot of things...... that would be a bitter life to live......

Makes me think of a guy running into an art auction house screaming "SCAM" because a painting was sold for 50 million. Good, I don't have to waste time with you.

Exactly mate...... you took the words right out of my mouth.

How would this impact upon the future prospects of the btc?

In March, IRS (LHDN equivalent in US) demanded Coinbase to surrender the database of all customers data. Coinbase and its customers are currently trying to block the demand, the republicans have also backed them up saying that sample testing would be more appropriate brows.gif brows.gif

According to IRS it is required to file tax return on capital gains made (so capital loss are allowable or not?)

WooTz Hey how's the tax regulation over your place? Are you required to pay tax on the capital gains? Declaration of such assets?

To create some long-term stability and ease those concerns, Ripple announced a plan last week for the structured sale and use of its currency. By the end of 2017, the company will put 55 billion of its XRP into escrow and will unleash up to 1 billion into the market every month. Thus, investors will have some sense of what's coming.

Bitcoin faces growing competition from Ethereum

https://www.investing.com/news/forex-news/b...ethereum-490743

Ethereum's value could overtake Bitcoin’s by the end of 2018, said Olaf Carlson-Wee, chief executive officer of cryptocurrency hedge fund Polychain Capital, in an interview with Bloomberg.

"The market cap of ethereum will bypass the market cap of Bitcoin by the end of the year," Wilson said in an earlier interview with Bloomberg.
