QUOTE(fruitie @ Mar 13 2017, 02:28 PM) TM is really slow... My sister's taman, the agents went to each house to register interest. Poles were up and some of the poles come with white box already. Yet, still no action taken from TM to activate their UniFi ports. I was hoping that when I arrive on 1st April at her house, it's already equipped with UniFi. Looks like tough luck. QUOTE(fruitie @ Mar 13 2017, 03:18 PM) QUOTE(fruitie @ Mar 13 2017, 07:22 PM) Yeah, I also feel it. In Seremban as well, in Rasah Kemayan. I saw yours also in Seremban right? We have a similar situation there in Sg. Buloh, Selangor. The poles took like 3-5mths to be fully installed. Once all that, they can take a week or two more for the cabling and DP (distr. point) boxes installation. Our residential area is small, so they could have wrap this up faster.Just waiting for them to do it. Been collecting since mid Feb... Hopefully as soon as possible. I agree that it's really frustrating to call the TM. Really! Only last thing they do is, connecting the one cable back to the exchange box 500m outside the area. I'm not sure how long they can test the cables, and adding all the final details, but I hope it doesn't take us another 2 months or so!! |

Just a quick question. I recently got unifi at my house. After the contractor install everything, i realize there are 2 signal, eg. (A) lowyat (B) lowyat_5G.
I did asked them, which to use, they told me the one without 5G. I was wondering why 2? and what is that _5G is for? are they the same? |

The 5g is the 5ghz signal which offers faster WiFi connection but distance cannot go very far
The other one is 2.4GHz, WiFi signal can go further bit speed is slower compared to the 5 ghz |

I was wondering why 2? and what is that _5G is for? are they the same? and the other one is high speed 5ghz wifi signal... for best media streaming/downloading speed... use the 5ghz signal if your device able to "see" the wifi signal... because not all device able to see that....due to different wifi chip... how to check? if a device stated b/g/n wifi chip... it wont see the 5ghz wifi signal... but if the device is equipped with a/ac chip or carrying dualband wifi chip name.....its definately capable to see and communicate to the 5ghz wifi signal.... but...as the speed is higher, there is a trade off... mainly is the wifi range were dropped.... example is like the router is in your living room, so if u were connecting the 5ghz wifi from back of your house outside the kitchen, mostlikely the signal is dropping to just a few bar or disconnected at all....where your normal 2.4ghz wifi will be still at full bar signal reception at the same distance.... I dont really notice the speed difference between 5ghz and 2.4ghz on my phone. Im still getting 30mbps of unifi speed. Unless you are transferring large files between pc/laptop in your home The other one is 2.4GHz, WiFi signal can go further bit speed is slower compared to the 5 ghz For me, its the range that i need for mobile phones.... |

(A) lowyat (B) lowyat_5G. 5Ghz is less congested so it is able to perform better. Not to mention Wireless AC is only on 5Ghz.I did asked them, which to use, they told me the one without 5G. I was wondering why 2? and what is that _5G is for? are they the same? However, the signal will be weaker due to the higher frequency. If you can get decent 5Ghz signal for your entire home, use 5Ghz only. |

Only can difference once you have higher speed like 100Mbps or more. For me, its the range that i need for mobile phones.... |

Can already feel the difference when using 50 mbps. My 2.4ghz gives average at 37 mbps if same floor as router. only if I am next to the router, it reach about 42 mbps but for 5 ghz, even different floor , I can get average to 47mbps. If I use 2.4 ghz, different levels, will struggle to hit pass 30 mbps. |

Generally speaking and in ideal situations, no. But under certain circumstances, it makes a marked difference. Speedtests below shows the difference between 2.4 & 5GHz in a rather congested wifi environment. It would have made a difference even if you're on VIP20. ![]() ![]() |
