Hi i got a question.

Does a Lan coupler works okay? Need to extend RJ45. Dont want to buy new longer cable and reinstall. Was thinking just to extend it.

Does a Lan coupler will do the job?

Should work for short distances. But the connection has to be secure and stable, else you will get disconnects from time to time...

Thanks! biggrin.gif

QUOTE(nikrizal @ Mar 8 2017, 05:46 PM)
You can use any extra old gigabyte router, turn it into bridge mode, then not only you can extend the distance but you'll also have additional ports.
*
well thats true tho but i just want to extend a single rj45 to my room and i think for additional ports, switcher works better for that purpose.
QUOTE(blacktubi @ Mar 8 2017, 05:58 PM)
Should be fine as long as it is <100M

great! thanks rclxms.gif

The 5g is the 5ghz signal which offers faster WiFi connection but distance cannot go  very far

The other one is 2.4GHz, WiFi signal can go further bit speed is slower compared to the 5 ghz
*
5ghz good for short distance. Longer distance always with 2.4ghz. I dont really notice the speed difference between 5ghz and 2.4ghz on my phone. Im still getting 30mbps of unifi speed. Unless you are transferring large files between pc/laptop in your home biggrin.gif

For me, its the range that i need for mobile phones....

Can already feel the difference when using 50 mbps.

My 2.4ghz gives average at 37 mbps  if same floor as router.

only if I am next to the router, it reach about 42 mbps but for 5 ghz,  even different floor , I can get average to 47mbps.

If I use 2.4 ghz, different levels, will struggle to hit pass 30 mbps.
*
Maybe its your area congested with 2.4ghz. Or try other channel

I tried both 2.4 n 5ghz at my house. Same speed. The only difference is the wireless range.

Generally speaking and in ideal situations, no. But under certain circumstances, it makes a marked difference. Speedtests below shows the difference between 2.4 & 5GHz in a rather congested wifi environment. It would have made a difference even if you're on VIP20.

Waa so bad. Im using huawei ws330 as an AP and still can get full speed. 5ghz are great but have to sacrifice range

I bought a cat5e cable in Sri Computers, Plaza Lowyat. Apparently the cable only connect at 100mbps max. So i suspect the cable defect. When i go back they said "oh cat5e only support 100mbps"

?????????
Bought same cat5e before and getting full gigabit speed. Uncle there insist the 5e only up to 100mbps. I rest my case. Give up. Top up a bit bought cat6 straight away chow.

Strange, my cat 5e cable can give 1Gbps speed unless on my laptop's ethernet port which doesn't support more than 100mbps.
*
Its the cable itself. My old cat5e 1gbps.
What im pissed off is that the uncle die-die tell me cat5e up to 100mbps only. Lucky i have lot of patience n respect elders lol. Okay la uncle. Whatever la.

Can you take a look at how they wire the RJ45s?

user posted image
Some shops/sellers wires cat5e like this. When it's wired this way, chances are that it won't work at 1Gbps. Yeah, they do it on purpose.

user posted image
If you take the same cable and re-crimp the heads  like this, I'd bet it will work at or close to 1Gbps.
*
All i can say the cable is bad quality. The head all good. Im guessing its not 5e but they labeled it as 5e.

We all know 5e supports up to 1gbps and cat6 up to 10gbps but not the uncle there. Seems like the uncle know how to sell only lol

Sue them to consumer tribunal for false claim. You have to uphold your right as a consumer.

Read the label on the cable. It is the most accurate. Certain shops put cat5 cables as cat5e even it is labeled cat5 on the cable.
*
Yes. Its written as cat5e.

That must be some real terrible cable or a bad crimp job. sweat.gif

They labeled as 5e but real life testing only up to 100mbps. Its a new batch of 5e as i bought a few before and the quality totally different from the last one. Im guessing its a bad batch. No QC by them.

No money laio. I bought two TP-Link WA855RE Wireless extender, one TP-Link WR841HP, one TP-Link WR741N, one TP-Link switch, and another TP-Link Archer C1200.
*
Oh haha enough already to cover ur whole house. Tplink also good. No issue for me as well. Using 2 x Archer C5 as my AP. If got wireless issue means your wireless extender not doing well?

Pull rj45 is the best solution other than powerline hehe

The C1200 is shit. I have two, one bought from TM and  the another one I got it free when I signed up for Advance 30. The Wi-Fi is not stable and the CPU load always stays at 100% which makes the internet laggy.
*
Im glad i didnt trade c1200 for c5
