you can try buy repeater, more economy too

Yes repeater is economical but it will not solve any problem if the root cause is the router.

Buy a new dual band router such as from Asus brand or tp link brand. Preferable brand, Asus.

Guys, I'm having random disconnect sometimes when I am on the 2nd floor ( my house is double storey ) and the modem/router was set up on ground floor

Right now I'm using TM's DIR-850L router which has no antenna band so any recommended one to replace it ? Using Unifi Advance 30 btw thanks.

if u buy new router, u can use your old router as an access point vice versa.

for normal internet usage, tplink c5 are more than enough. i dont think u need extra features right? then u dont need an Asus.

I never tried Mi Router but i know they use custom firmware to enable Unifi connection. for stock firmware, u can only use it as access point.

here's a tip. Dont be fooled by high powered antenna router biggrin.gif

access point and repeater are the same thing

what does repeater 50/50 means? half it works half it doesn't work? doh.gif

most of it works exactly the same, take the existing wifi signal and rebroadcast it.

addon, current market for such device have all the functionality is just up to you, how you want it to be.

pulling a cable to it and create a new SSID, take existing wifi and amplify , or take existing wifi and rebroadcast it to another SSID.

Does a rebroadcasted wifi network will have the same speed as the origin one?

Eg. Router 1 is 300Mbps Wifi N, Router 2 is 300Mbps Wifi N.

Does user connected to the Router 2 will get same MAX speed as the user connected to the Router 1.

Repeater cuts half of ur speed. Plus not very stable.

Pull cable or use powerline works better but of course cable 100% fullspeed compared with powerline

A the rebroadcasted network will be capped at half of the previous max linkspeed. If previously it was wireless N at 150mbps linkspeed, now it is 75mbps theoretical maximum. Of course this is still sufficient for 30mb or 50mbps unifi but when there's more client connected, overall quality will suffer further. This linkspeed will degrade and improve beyond your control depending on your neighbors activity too if you're relying on wifi N.

I would suggest going for powerline with WiFi. Obtained one myself and pretty happy with the outcome. I created a new 5ghz SSID and forced all capable clients to use 5ghz to reduce interference. Every unit in livingroom now can get 48mbps on Wifi AC now. Previously they only can get like 10-20mbps out of full 50mbps due to weak signal from main router positioned at top floor at back of house.

Contact the CS or try extracting it from the router.
