Of course, how would you get a signal to receive the sms without roaming  sweat.gif
But roaming is free, just turn off data roaming on your phone and dont make any calls

The minimum monthly expenses
Take myself as an example similar to yours
Rental : S$700 (expensive! I know)
Food : <S$300
Transportation : <S$90
Daily Necessities : <S$90
Entertainment : <S$100
Monthly total expenses around S$1300 +-
You should be able to cut down on rental + entertainment, so S$1000 will do.

i dont drink & dont mind pasar food, but still i want single room bc i value my sleep time
thanks. how far ur place from office? why still got transportation cost?
*
Just to add on I am staying single room without landlord [freedom with a price]
BMW (Bus MRT Walk) is the norm in Singapore.
My company just few MRT stations away but cost me S$1.45 per trip.
(S$1.45x2) X 22working days = S$63.8 (still need to add Shopping & Outing transportation will be around >S$90 or even lesser)
My situation is rented a room before getting a job, so the location is not the most ideal but still within acceptable distance

If you stay near your workplace within walking distance + able to get a cheap room, you living cost should be able to keep around S$800-S$900

Hi sifus, I just got an offer for $4k in SME at Yishun Industrial Street 1. My question is, how much u can save if u're single with no commitment & not boros & opt to commute from JB? I wish to save money to move to NZ/OZ after 1 year.

Or shud I wait other offer 1st? bc i put my expected salary as $5k. still waiting words from two interviews and has one upcoming interview today. Thanks.
*
just did this saje-saje (depending where your office is from ciq)>

stay in SG
sg rent sgd700
daily BMW <22*3> sgd66

Cummute daily JB>SG
jb rent <rm700> sgd230
daily room to jb ciq (assuming via wdland)
option1 park car<22*rm12> sgd88
option2 park bike<22*rm4> sgd30
option3 city bus, same as bike
daily ciq to ciq<train 22xrm10> sgd73
daily ciq Woodland to workplace<BMW 22x3> sgd66

sgd 766 vs <car 230+88+73+66> /or <bike/local bus 230+30+73+66>

sgd 776 vs <car 457> vs <bike/local bus 399>

save ard 40-50% in exchange for at abt 2hrs on the road daily.

alternatively u can cost out for drive/ride in too (also 1-1.5hr on the road)

he's refering to ezlink/nets flashpay for mrt/bus public transportation.
not to forget set aside expenses for phone and allowance for your parents.
IMO 1000 per month is doable but kinda tight and no life lol.
*
thanks u rite. totally forgot other expenses.

QUOTE(KilJim @ Jun 2 2017, 01:16 PM)
$300/month for food is a pretty low estimate imo
That's only $10 /day meaning you will be eating hawker 2-3 meals per day every single day, so that's the minimum alrd

And if you must have your own room (no sharing) then $600-700 is also around the minimum, so kovin's 1.3k estimate is quite a good low estimate. Doubt you can manage to lower it to 1k

Also 1 big item not included is travel expenses if you plan to go back home once in a while

Out of curiosity, why do you feel a need to save up before going to Aus?
Wouldn't it be better if you went there directly instead?
*
thanks yes u rite oso need to go back home at KL sometimes

i just got back from nz using whv to look for perm job but with no success, and my saving kering ady. planning to go again after save up again. i rather work in my field than in orchard.

let see let me break down mine,

I get salary 3.5k
rental in novena 450 (cheap rite smile.gif even my sg colleagues also terkejut but no air con of course medium room no share)
bus (0.77 per single trip so go and back 1.54 one month around 40 )
phone bill company allowance s$50 so 0 expense for me
buy a honda city for mom in msia installment RM800 per month around S$266
air ticket back penang can claim from company twice per yrs 0 expense for me
yamcha with frn S$100 per month
makan & Daily necessities per month S$500
active sg gym once per week 3.3*4=13.2

SO 3.5-450-40-266-100-500-13.2 = 2130.8

Am I too jimat?? blush.gif

No need. Just turn on your sim card. Off data roaming will do. 15 years ago maybe you need to activate. Not now.

QUOTE(XiuKeong @ Jun 2 2017, 02:35 PM)
It depends on your company. You can also request for E Pass but subject to MOM approval.
*
Cannot request. S Pass and E Pass same form. Submit see MOM give which one.

But S Pass depend on quota. Not e pass.

Normal bah... Considering you pay the car loan for malaysia and that your room rental is so cheap for single person.

I see, perhaps having some SG working experience in your resume will help you get a job there

My personal opinion, you shouldn't save kao kao just to move to NZ, that's what ppl usually do to move back to MY
NZ should be able to give you a pretty good pay when you get there
You can't go there first and look for a job either if I understand correctly, so your savings won't help you achieve that long term goal too much

Hey guys, I am trying to understand the possibilities of me applying a position in accountancy firm in SG, specifically in audit assurance dept. I have not looked into details and how competitive it is but I've got a batchmate who landed a job in EY SG.

I am bound to complete the ICAEW professional stage in a few months time. I went straight into this so I do not possess a degree qualification sad.gif

Anyone here works in audit assurance or accountancy related industry?

This is not correct, not all MY operators had their lines enabled auto-roaming. Most prepaid are not on auto-roaming (may have additional charges just to activate roaming), and low end postpaid as well. Especially Umobile plans cause I have friends on Umobile and they have no signal when they came to SG.

At least for umobile it is not auto by default roaming activated anyway, https://u.com.my/plans/roaming-idd/roaming-rates. Not talking about other operators.

I don't know about umobile, but for the other big carriers it's generally prepaid has auto roaming enabled, and it's the postpaid that needs to specifically enable it.

[edit] Even your umobile link says so: "For Prepaid Subscribers: What do I need to prepare if I want to activate IDD and International Roaming?

No subscription is required. Roaming services (IDD & IR) are pre-activated for all prepaid subscribers"
