It’s been dead for a long time though. A decade plus ago when I first came to SG it was super active, nowadays … I guess newer generation doesn’t play forum anymore.

Hi all, I’ve just gotten my first paycheck, but I got some questions. So currently I have a DBS/POSB Payroll Account, and there’s DBS Remit to send money back to Malaysia. It advertises 0% fees, how true is that statement? If compared to wise how’s the fees/charges? Should I be transferring my money from DBS to Wise and then transfer through Wise for the best exchange rate/fees etc? Would appreciate any advice tongue.gif

Hi there,

I can share a little on my personal experience.
I have been using both CIMB FastSaver & Wise remittance service a little over a year now, so I can share a little;

So far Wise has been quite reliable (in the context of MY-SG conversion), the transfer using PayNow (SG version of DuitNow QR Scan) is virtually instantaneous, if the transferring amount is not too large of a sum (usually I perform <$500 per transaction). The latest transfer so far it took me about 1+ hour for a large sum (>$800), especially when you are not performing it consistently on routine basis. The transfer fees of Wise was considered the most competitive among others that I have checked until recent months, they hiked a little amount, which then I switched to CIMB as the fees difference were negligible.

No further explanation required for CIMB interbank conversion, it's just about the transfer fees; usually it eats away 0.03 for each transaction, e.g. real-time rate at 3.86ish, they offered to convert at a rate of 3.50.

(Paiseh, I am a frugal kiamsiap guy, as the difference of conversion between Wise-CIMB for the amount I usually convert is good enough for me to have an above average eat-out meal in Malaysia, so it matters to me 🙈)

Please feel free to PM me for the referral codes to both Wise & CIMB FastSaver account! I am happy to answer some of your doubts for the online application smile.gif

Hi Guys,

I kena charge by Digi for receiving international SMS (banking SMS) about RM55 last month, which I didnot aware about it.
Could you suggest that how do you receive the Malaysia OTP without activate international roaming, and able to receive SMS?

Thanks in advance.

Data roaming is for DATA.

You just enable the sim card without turning on data roaming SMS will just come through directly.

Thanks for reply, Bro.
I tried, but not sure why, I received the OTP or SMS after few hours. 😅

If this is for banking purpose, I don’t think this is work after few hours. Did you all have same experience?

Thanks

Thanks for your reply here.
I confirmed with Digi CS, roaming is required in order to receive the SMS. cry.gif

Below is the message:

QUOTE
Kindly be informed to receive TAC/OTP code via mobile number. the international raoming service need to be active.
This is because customers can only receive TAC/OTP code to their mobile device when connected to the local network provider in the roaming country.
If the international roaming  service is not activate, then customer unable to get connected to the local network provider and  unable to receive TAC/OTP.

Any good telco plan for only receive SMS/OTP purpose?

Roaming is not Data Roaming. Roaming, Pay As You Use, is free for receiving SMS. Only when you send sms/call then yes you need to pay.

If you turn on DATA ROAMING, all apps in your phone will use that data and that's why you got deducted that much. sweat.gif sweat.gif If you still don't understand need other sifu explain liao.

Also btw, I have been on DiGi Prepaid for the last 10 years here in SG. Never did I sign up any plan/roaming, just enable the SIM CARD in phone, let it connect to the local network WITHOUT DATA, SMS will just come right through.

Thanks for your explanation, Bro.

I realised that the charge is came from the incoming calls as per screen (although i didnot pick up). Is this something wrong? How to prevent it?

Check your voicemail? Make sure it's disabled. Other than that, make sure you turn off if not in use? I keep my line off 99% of time only on when I'm expecting sms/call.

Pardon if asked before… but I’ve recently been curious how Malaysian work permit holders in Singapore have found their employment.

Seeking employment with qualifications, I would generally think Jobstreet, maybe LinkedIn. But those seeking jobs like where the qualification required is Secondary education, how is it approached?

I was recently researching bus captain positions at the 4 public bus operator and I had to get info in person - surely not everyone has the time to visit 4 different recruitment centres to learn that only 2 is currently actively hiring Malaysian.

Thanks your reply here,

Just a quick update, I managed to get the refund from Digi about the voicemail (Data Roaming) charged to me!!

According to Digi CS, the voicemail will turn on and it resulted the Data Roaming charged for this issue.

Based on my experience, you can find a job very easy if you don't choose JOB (For example, Waiter, Cleaner, Chief, Factory Operator) and not demanding high salary.

Of course, if you have abovementioned request, it will quite hard to get a job unless there are demand for your skillset/ industry. In order to push up the Work Pass Quota (EP, S-Pass, PRC, NTS), usually company will give these passes quota to 3D (Dirty, Dangerous and Difficult) job to foreigner. Those easy job such as Admin, HR, Finance, Logistic etc will prioritize for Singaporean/PR first.
