Hey guys, my TV at home is not a SmartTV.
If I just wanted a TV box to watch Netflix in 1080p, stable and good response on the remote, what would be the best recommendation?

Alternatively, if I wanted to stop my Astro, I would need live sports, news and cartoons channels. Any box providing these?

Sorry really new to TV boxes and there are so many options out there

Wanna check with you guys
I have this S905x box named 'Modeo' (2GB RAM/16GB ROM) that I put at my family's house
The stock remote is shitty like hell compared to my nvidia shield
Have to aim properly and press hard on the remote
After flashing to atvXperience, it was slightly better but still crap
There is also a zidoo h6 pro at the family house, the remote is much better than the modeo but of course not as good as the shield
So I'm thinking of getting one of those airmouse for this modeo box
Heard people saying that the remote from minix is good (RM90 or so)
You reckon the improvement (responsiveness and all) will be drastic?  sweat.gif
though I was told some functions on the minix remote won't work on other android boxes

If you found any good airmouse, let us know.

The air mouse are typically like shits :-

1) They drink battery like drinking water.

2) Constantly have to toggle between remote/IR mode vs usb-dongle (airmouse) mode. And then make to toggle between mouse mode vs non-mouse mode.

I doubt people understand all those things.

Yes, IR remote has to transmit IR vendor ID over which matches the box to be controlled. Without "learning", it is tight to a particular box. I am not sure if the minix remote can learn new IR code or not.
*
I'm shopping for remote control for my Shield TV too.
I much have the following features:
1) Gyroscope Air mouse
2) Bluetooth ( to free up USB port )
3) Voice control.
4) keyboard is not a must but bonus if comes with it.

From my research thus far, I've found Q5 remote control meet the first three conditions.

As advised... Try Magisksu and its accompanying app..Careful though.. Flashing is relatively safe.. However, flash wrongly or the wrong stuff and you risk bricking your device. Time to hang around Freaktab.

Grab the latest Xiaomi MiBox... But be sure it's the one with the global/English fw.. Should ship with Google Play Store. Got more budget to play with? Grab the Nvidia Shield.

As for Astro alternatives.. We don't discuss such.. Walls be listening.. Seek out yourself.. Plenty out there.. ALSO, read the first page!!

Let me guess, it's an IR only operated remote? If so, of course, the remote experience will be "shitty", especially if the box doesn't have a well placed receiver and or isn't placed in a clear line of sight for each keypress.

AHHH no wonder doh.gif
overlooked this part sweat.gif
and the other 2 boxes I mentioned use bluetooth
this modeo box doesn't even have bluetooth function doh.gif

I'm gonna try this one, seems popular on lazada with good ratings and cheap enough to ditch if it's not good enough

thanks for the insight thumbsup.gif

Cheapest I've seen on lazada recently was RM220 or so from this China based seller during flash sale

There is very few boxes can do Netflix at 1080p/4K.

Mosy of them are like Roku, Amazon FireTV etc. The only cheap box i can think of which can play Netflix UHD and HD is Mi Box S. The other China brands mostly play SD and a few maybe can do 720p only.

So your choice are really limited. So no need to think hard. Unless you want to spend Rm1k for an Nvidia Shield (in which case, its better build a HTPC for that price..).

You are welcome.. Just make sure to be aware of its limitations before ordering. The primary reason I recommended it was cuz your primary requirement is Netflix. Else, I personally.. Won't touch that box. Just my 2 sen. So if you are good with it.. Excellent, enjoy your box.. rclxms.gif

Kindly see thread title and read the last 20 or so pages.. Return when wiser.. Thanks. Why? Cuz 2 of your 3 options are already asking for trouble. The MXQ Pro may or may not be a good deal,. Search this thread too for posts on it.

Cheap no good.. Good no cheap. RM150 is $36.. Manufacturers no eat? Coders no eat? Delivery costs to you, seller no eat? Pls la.. Let's be realistic.. The M8S Pro is decent enough at that price. Any cheaper box that isn't on some firesale? You are courting trouble already.

You could try manually installing the latest YouTube apk on it. Download from sites like apkmirror.

Yup.. Or download directly on the evpad itself.. Using a web browser. Either way will work. So whichever is more comfortable for you. You might have to download different versions, if the latest doesn't work well.

Thanks, thought so. That mecool can get around RM130 if promo and can run unofficial real androidtv firmware from freaktab, don't think got any cheaper than that.

Tried anyway in current economy. Also already have old mibox 3, this one planing for extra tv only. smile.gif
