I am using the IR keyboard with touchpad. Abandoned my A2 Lite mouse because this is more convenient for me.
Very cheap solution.

Probably better to stick with 4K res in the settings.. Cuz then the UI (if supported) & apps like Kodi with support will output at 4K res..

Thanks and appreciate for the advice Chief. I have followed your suggestion and tried few 4k settings option until I found the right one which has no lags when viewing 4K contents on KODI. nod.gif

It's definitely more wallet friendly to setup yourself via an Android box.. Though I'd like to point out.. There's no such thing as a "TV Box". There are just devices shaped in the form of a box running different OSes and firmware, which are capable of running apps with IPTV services. Yes, it's easier to just refer to them as tv boxes. But this gives a very wrong idea of their abilities and performance. Plus then noobs just associate all boxes MUST have or come with iptv. Wrong..

Okay, rant done.. Unless you are heavily invested in or intend to do so with Apple's iTunes media services.. Doesn't sound like you are so, skip the Apple TV... As for HiMedia or Minix, you won't go wrong with either boxes. However, the Q10 Pro is a bit of an uncle now, so best to go with the Neo U9-H. Plus Minix firmware are known for having the most app compatibility.. Now, have to spend some time to seek out the better ehem services for you and will work on the chosen device. Some have trial packages. Be wise to use that first to screen. Do remember that none (AFAIK) is as easy to setup and use like a proper Asterruk setup/experience. So give and take.
Yes, you can download and or sideload normal Android apps unto the MiBox. Whether they work satisfactorily or even run is another question entirely.

Hi, whenever I see a listing as "pre-installed" this and that? I'm immediately put off by it. Though doesn't mean that the individual box models won't be any good.. So first, have you tried searching within this thread for each of the models and reading the reviews or shared info? Do that first to see what current or previous owners have said about the devices themselves and not the "pre-installed" services as that can vary from seller to seller.

Alternatively, within that price bracket.. I'd just go with a Mecool box.

for newbies or ppl that are less tech-savvy , pre-installed is much easier for us seriously
my box currently comes with pre-installed apps yet I'm still struggling to fully utilized it
thankfully the customer service is good

I don't disagree on that. I too used to help people pre-install choice apps and services on their devices. Thing is, it's wrong for sellers to market as such (worse when it's an app developed and shared for free)..as in the case of Kodi, which is a superb open source software..cuz it gives these devices, software and their devs a bad name.. Plus, the government (as in the UK, USA, and recently Singapore) have an excuse to not only crack down on them heavily but on users as well. Don't think for a second that the likes of Astro and Big Media haven't seen and kept tabs on the growing numbers of cord cutters. They do and if it keeps up, it's only a matter of time before even Malaysia succumbs to their pressure.

Take for instance, you mentioned that you are struggling to fully utilize all the pre-installed stuff. True, that happens cuz these sellers have to install a bunch of stuffs.. Many of which aren't needed by buyers on case by case basis. End up, some services will break or end or later update to cause conflicts within your system.. Other apps affected and cuz you didn't know or don't know how to troubleshoot or narrow down to the culprit.. End up, have to factory reset.. Guess what happens when you do that? All gone.. Then you'll have to setup from scratch. Besides, it's fairly easy to go from noob to intermediate level to source and maintain the apps..etc.. One simply must. Your seller might be customer-centric today cuz he or she just made a profit or continues to do so.. But later?.. I'm a minimalist sort of guy where such is considered. Lean and mean is best way to go. Thanks for sharing your experience with the Tx6.

I make my box simple and to only install things which I want to. It's not complicated if one is already using an Android phone. It's just like a bigger version of Android phone because you view it on a TV. laugh.gif

I even customized it the UI by using Nova Launcher to make it same design as my phone, something I'm familiar with. tongue.gif

IMO, there aren't an "non-smart" decent TVs out there. There just simply aren't.. And if you are considering to buy some no-name brand, that's an even worse off idea. However, all smart TVs aren't created equal. Some are indeed smarter others.. So best is to focus on what a TV should do and do best.. Which is Picture quality. TV speakers aren't great either, so if you like better sounds? you must get a separate sound system to go along with it. story for another thread. smile.gif Today, UHD TVs are much cheaper.. so depending on your budget & the TV's location, I'd spring for at least a 55" UHD TV.. Got more budget? Get one with HDR (at least HDR10 support.. Dolby Vision??? eh, not so widely accepted now, so skip) too... Else, a 1080p (minimum) smart TV will do just fine. So yes, look for a truly smart TV.

BUT... Make sure the TV is smart enough to support apps like Netflix & YouTube in it's respective max resolution.

in my opinion, hdr is useless if the tv is not equipped with full array local dimming led. but if u have the budget to buy such tv… better straight get the oled tv.

if limited budget…get the biggest entry level tv. size > all

if concern IQ…get the oled tv, don't waste time on mid range normal led tv.

I don't disagree... Completely.. HDR is not entirely useless and OLED, despite the distinct advantages, I wouldn't be buying any just yet. Due to its current issues. Anyone who buys one must be prepared for its display to fail sooner rather than later. Doesn't mean others are super reliable.. But at least with "regular" LEDs, I'd like to think the displays will last longer without burn-ins, etc.. Now, Samsung's MicroLED technology on the other hand? I'm keeping my eye on that one.. biggrin.gif

Astro to gain if Android TV boxes banned

PETALING JAYA: In view of Singapore’s proposal to ban the sale of media streaming boxes in the country, analysts say Astro Malaysia Holdings Bhd may reap benefits if Malaysia follows suit.

Earlier this month, Singapore’s Law Ministry said it was proposing a ban on the sale of set-top boxes or media streaming boxes with services that allow consumers access to pirated content.

Astro Go was never meant to be used with boxes. laugh.gif My box cannot even find this app via Google Play, only managed to install via manual way. tongue.gif

For Netflix, I think it is fine. Astro probably is sour over illegal IPTV providers.
