Hi. Another new bee here.

I would like to purchase my very first tv box. I have a LG OLED tv with unifi 30mbps internet.

I would like to watch hd/uhd movies and hk/korean drama/variety.

In my mind, there is 3 tv box i am considering. Minix u-9/q10 pro / nvidea shield.

Can you suggest which one is more suitable for me? I dun mind regarding live sport / gaming.

Thanks in advance for guiding the lost soul.

I just bought
MECOOL KIII pro DVB S2 + T2 3GB / 16GB Octa Core Android 7.1 Smart Hybrid TV Box Amlogic S912 4K Media Player VS KII PRO KI PRO

I was interested because it have DVB S2 and T2.
I tested using Astro dish and scan DVB S2 channel and all is good.
However DVB T2 didn't get any channel using the same antenna I use for another DVB-T2 box.
I tried both auto scan and manual scan.
Does anyone have the same experience?
I am thinking to return it.

For starters, Googled and nothing popped up in relation on the first page. So seems it's one of those generic rebranded boxes.
*Is the device rooted?
*Tried manually installing the apk?

You need to side load the apk. Also Astro Go is not Android TV apps. You can't navigate the Astro Go apps using remote control. A mouse or Mouse Pad with mouse function is required for the navigation.

If rooted, then it's a problem.. In the past, got ways to bypass and get it to work. Nowadays, the Astro app is much smarter and difficult to fool. So best is unrooted and confirmed working on..devices.. There are a few listed on the first page. Also, I doubt it's running Android TV OS.. It'd be regular Android OS. Just check the about device section under settings to confirm. Can post photos here for added confirmation.

There are 3 types of problems when running AstroGo,

1. When started, the app complains device is rooted or jailbreak.
2. When playback, there is a circle keep spinning and spinning, nothing else is seen.
3. When playback, it complains of wrong format.

So what is your problem ?

In any case, unroot or hide root can solve problem 1 and 2. Problem 3 can be solved by changing ROM.

TWRP and Magisk is the answer to unroot and hide root.

If root is useless to you, you can unroot by installing Magisk and then uninstall Magisk ( via TWRP ). It is an easier way to remove root.

I concur with this statement. Nothing extra is useless and you avoid it just cause you have another alternative to use.

My setup at home is currently

Synology NAS - To Host all pictures, and some very big videos / videos that are not available to stream elsewhere. (well the primary aim for the NAS is for file backups)
MiniX Neo U9-H - Run Kodi, android apps.
Samsung Smart TV - To run Youtube 4k/Netflix 4k.
PS4 Pro - To Game.

MiniX , PS4 and Samsung TV is able to output HDR, but due to HDR tech being new, there is nto much *ahem* source of HDR (if you can actually find any outside those tech videos or short clips)

In fact the best HDR source for now is still Netflix/Amazon Prime, even Kodi dont have HDR video source outside those small clips.

And yeah derailing from the subject in hand of Android Box XD
I'm still sour that U9H has no native support for 4k Youtube/Netflix hahaha, since it is using those open source Android instead of paying royalty for using Android TV (however if android TV that you're stuck with apps only authorized to use for Android TV instead)

So pro and con go, thankfully my TV can fallback to Netflix / Youtube 4k HDR.

Sorry to bump up old post, want to check if MiniX Neo U9-H the benchmark box to get, and what are the market price for this, where to get it cheap?

Also how to connect to Synology NAS?

Thank you

Hi I'm Newbie for TV Box.

Just purchase MXQ Pro Plus from here
https://shopee.com.my/product/42328223/683002452/

Only saw some bad comment on my purchased box doh.gif
About the weak wifi, how weak is that? Keep disconnected?
Or cannot connect at all? for 5G or 2.4G? (current in Unifi 100mbps)

Apart from wifi, any other problem like performance? Will be lag?
I'm light user only use to watch movie/drama/variety show. (Cuz still have Astro Jade pack plan)

This box has no 5 GHz.

How far is your router from the box ?

Just make the connection and perform speed test. Compare with the speed with when tested with hand phone.

If it really has 5 GHz, then it is a different board. It's common that the tv boxes different shipments of the exact same brand can be delivered with different boards.

I think you should try IPTV Apps. IPTV Apps are coming with latest versions in market. IPTV App is an Android APP as well as ios APP. You can see effective features in this app such as

1. Sorting Functionality Added
2. Search functionality for Categories
3. Fast Loading Large VOD Data
4. Design Improvements
5. New Option under “setting” – Layout Selection ( User can switch to OLD layout selection )
6. Time Format Setting ( Switch Between 12 hour or 24 hours Type)
7. Bug Fixed – Black Screen on VOD loaded
