Hi All,

A very good day to everyone. I am a total nerd when it comes to this, I would really appreciate all the input I can get here. Basically below is my requirement and questions:
1) Watching movies, HK dramas and live football (no delay preferable, don't mind paying).
2) Can support Netflix and iFlix.
3) Please correct me if I'm wrong, for the above I know I need to have a streaming box but I am unsure of which box to purchase. Thank you in advance and have a great day.
*
Hello & welcome nerd, sure didn't mean noob? tongue.gif Please start from page one and also read a couple of the last pages. Then return when you have actual box options for assistance in picking one. If done properly, you won't even need us to pick, you'd automatically know which to choose within your budget and requirements..

Whilst nice to have.. You do not need 3GB RAM for better UI & performance. Those come from the box's hardware + software combo. A poorly made box with 10GB RAM will NOT improve performance. In fact, performance will be worse off than on say a 2GB Box that's well specced and has an awesome software to boot. Think about it, we don't use these boxes like our phones. For example, TouchWiz software on a Samsung flagship like the  Note 8 takes up a lot of resources just on its own.. Cuz fancy features, graphics etc.. So even if it ships with 4GB RAM, the OS itself has to allocate sometimes up to or more than 50% RAM to keep it's head in the game. The remaining RAM is then used for your apps. We do not have or really need such flowery-ness? on our media boxes (at least most don't). We simply want it to boot up and play what we want with minimal fuss. Which means at most you'll be running one app in the foreground and a few in the background. Android's OS RAM management on a good box can be tweaked to keep the most important apps running and surrender the rest. So I'd concentrate more on getting a device as suggested that excels in the WiFi and performance department than rely on it having 3GB RAM.. So if this box you found does both well (as evident from real world reviews) and within your budget, sure go for it.

Edited for better clarity..

Hi all,

I am looking to buy a TV box but there are too many brands out there.

I am considering buying Somershade TV Box, anyone have any idea if this is good?

My budget is about 300-450. Must have live stream of football and other sports channel including cricket. Not so bother about other channels but if got Indian channels that will be great.

Indeed, there are many brands in the market. Have you checked out the first page? See that first as it'll make you understand that these boxes aren't "live TV boxes.. But media players that can run iptv apps and services. This is the first I'm hearing of this Somershade device and seems like it's peddling illegal IPTV services. Same advice I'd tell anyone buying such..purchase at your own risk..

You are cute.. Must have this n that.. laugh.gif

Xbox One S ≠ Nvidia Shield... Different primary functions... The Xbox is a powerful gaming machine that tries at media playback..No Android TV or regular Android OS on it so can't simply install Android apks on it. The Nvidia Shield is a powerful media playback machine that tries at gaming. Runs Android TV OS and that speaks for itself. Pick one depending on your primary purpose.

plan to get tv box after getting time fiber install in my place, budget wise should be around 300-600 and i would prefer non chinese UI (i am chinese tho)

- streaming shows like jdrama, kdrama, hk drama, china drama, taiwan drama and english ones

- possible if there is any for sports like football? world cup is coming haha

- prefer fast and smooth UI with bluetooth keyboard and mouse support if possible (not sure if can)

- can stream or play videos from my other PC in LAN should be even better

TLDR: Budget not enough.. Double and get the Nvidia Shield.

Kindly see thread title.. Take your time.. It'll sink in.. Will be glad to assist when your questions are about a particular device and not simply tell me which device to buy..

The Nvidia Shield's primary function is as a 4K HDR media player. Gaming is on the side.. Gamers buy a proper PC, PS4 Pro or Xbox One X.

AFAIK, Kodi and RK processors do not play nicely. Personally, I'd avoid RK equipped boxes and stick with AMLogic instead. More support. Lastly, Kodi V18 is still very much in its nightly builds or Alpha stage.. Which means it's very unstable to use at the moment. 9/10 you buy that pre-installed, you'll rip it out and install the stable V17.6 and or SPMC anyway.

You can just get the Mi Box and they do all you need. No point getting Nvidia Shield unless you plan gaming on it.

Mi Box Malaysia edition only RM 349, support 4K streaming include Netflix. Support bluetooth device as well. The only not yet support (maybe forever) is the HDR is still broken not working. You can turn it on but it behave nothing and it won't work, for example YouTube or Netflix unable to detect it and display it as HDR.

Sure, Porsches, Ferrari, Teslas, Lamborghinis, Bugattis, etc all are "overpriced" junk.. Just cuz you don't see the point.. Doesn't mean it's not or doesn't do better. Others that do see the point and can afford it will get it.. Easy as that.

It is over price. smile.gif

Wonder why you need defence. Only one. You need to defence so you not feel over paid it. Haha

Nvidia Shield Pro edition is only worth if you gaming on it. For just movie purposes it just simply over price and defeat the purpose for having it.

I mentioned pro edition here because it bundle with 500GB internal storage which is required for gaming storage. I know normal edition can attached external storage but it still got limitation on it.
