Investment link policies offer a more complete coverage compared to a standalone policy.

Similar to eating just plain rice or do you prefer plain rice with some vegetables and chicken?

You'll need to be more specific on what information you're looking for. Otherwise it's better for you to take the time to digest through the Insurance 101 with MII biggrin.gif

I'd been approached by insurance agent a few times before, I always spent time, but because my interest is lesser, I end up didn't understand much(maybe I didn't pay close attention)

Fast forward to today, few of my colleagues are talking about insurance(medical card i guess) since their premium increase because of increment in medical cost. It made me thinks that I need to protect myself also at least for minimal medical treatment. So I'm thinking to get a standalone medical card. But the problem is I don't know anything about insurance and medical card.

I wonder what most medical card usually covers? Does normal fever, flu, cough checking at clinics/hospital are covered by medical card?Different insurance company have different panel hospital?

Here is a little bit info about me, that might help you guys suggest what I can consider. I'm a male, 26 y/o, working professional since 2012, 173cm, 70kg, used to be active in sport but now lesser, I stop smoking 6 months ago, and so far I don't have any particular medical issue.

Hi

It's good that you start to have some awareness on the importance of insurance and how it can save you a lot from financial problems with all these sudden cost incurred if you do fall sick one day.

For a medical card, it pays out whenever you're hospitalized.

Things like flu, normal fever are not covered under your personal insurance unless it's a company insurance which the rider can be included for you to claim from Clinic. As most of the expensive bills comes from hospitalization.

No doubt medical card is important, you should not neglect on life insurance as well as a form of income replacement as you may not succumb to death but Total Permanent Disability or 36 Critical Illness or Personal Accident.

Which is why it will be important not to overlook into these benefits which may help you in your time of need.

For further info you may meet up with life insurance agent to get consultations.

But at your age, a standalone medical card cost only RM100/mth for RM1 mil coverage yearly.

Other than the information other sifu has shared with you, perhaps it's a good idea to get your colleagues to tell you about their own agents and you might just choose one of them.

Correction on the bolded part. One gets medical insurance to cover huge medical bills.

Small bills below few hundred you need not have to worry about it.

biggrin.gif around 1xx/mth, probably you can call up the insurer if you want to buy direct.

That depends if you want to top up on top of your company medical card if the amount covered is too small to pay off a huge bill.

Just upgraded my medical card, but my insurance agent does a very bad job in explaining to me so I didn't get any life insurance.

Already 31 this year, any advice?

My agent called me to upgrade my current existing medical card and life insurance because both under insured. So as of now , just upgraded medical card and left with my under insured life insurance.

The amount which I can afford and not worry about is the limit on my credit card - which is more than a few hundreds.

If I can't afford to pay off the card over several months, then I am too poor to afford medical insurance. The probability is that the insurance will lapse before I get sick.

If the doctor ask me whether I have insurance, I would say I am too poor to afford any insurance... can you please waive off some fees?

I see, well what sort of advise are you looking for ?

for life insurance covered amount is very personal depending on upon understanding your current financial plan, how much you're required to covered for yourself and why you bought that amount covered in the first place.

So you may want to consult an agent to get his professional advise.

Medical card plans are quite affordable nowadays @ 100/mth, if these kind of insurance also can lapse which means your income is less than RM1200/mth which is not possible if you own a credit card because min income is RM3000/mth to apply for 1 with the banks.

So in order for you to lapse your medical card @ 100/mth while earning RM3000/mth, you may have over commit yourself unnecessary with other financial debts.

In anyways, it's important for you to make sure you have set aside some extra funds in your savings for necessary treatment or small treatment. With proper financial planning, you can achieve it. smile.gif

Then it is better to think more of casket & funeral expenses. smile.gif

Life is too short to worry on probable things that yet to come.
