Just for information, diabetes persons will not accepted to buy personal accidents as I have checked with few companies.. although personal accident is covered on event due to accident cause.

With that rm90/month additional, if put that in your existing plan and upgrade the medical?
*
QUOTE(lifebalance @ Oct 13 2017, 11:13 AM)
I would suggest you to stick to 1 card that gives an overall comprehensive coverage instead of 2 different card because the difference you have to pay first and file back a claim.

For example, you can get RM1,100,000 annual limit card that covers both of your current card for the price of 1 medical card.
*
QUOTE(JIUHWEI @ Oct 13 2017, 11:49 AM)
I think is better you look for upgrading within PRUBSN.

Encourage you to look for roystevenung for Pru related portfolios.
*
QUOTE(ChloeKhar @ Oct 14 2017, 03:52 PM)
I also agreed that to combined together to one card rather than separate to two cards, unless you have previous medical history, where there will be exclusion if upgrade or buy new card, or else better use one card with high coverage. How is your BMI now?
*
my bmi currently is 32. i undergo a lipoma removal surgery last year. so, not sure if its still covered in future. therefore, i might need to maintain current policy.

currently have quite extensive insurance coverage from my company and also my wife company so im not going to use my personal insurance at least until im 60 perhaps. therefore ncd 20% from Zurich is quite appealing.

but i have no decision yet. need to discuss with my wife first. tq guys for your input. cheers.

May i know whether there are medical plans which reward healthy individual? Ie regular exercise + gym.

I'm 24 yo and currently looking around on which is plan is best for me.

Side note: I do have a life insurance with Great Eastern though I'm not entirely sure about the plan since my parents is paying for it.

Yes there is, you can get the AIA Vitality which rewards you for being healthy

Depending on the plan that you apply for:
1. You can get up to 50% of your premium back as discount

2. You can get up to 50% extra cash value in your policy

3. You can get up to 50%free extra insurance protection amount

And discounts up to 50% for AirAsia, Fitness First membership, Hotels, Reebok products, Movie Ticket etc

Can I maintain the life insurance policy if I resigned from current company? Is there any procedure that I need to aware off?

You need to check with your company whether is there an opt out feature for this group insurance plan. If not, then you will not be able to carry this plan with you when you resign.

If it can be opt out, find out how much you need to pay and what plan you can purchase under the opt out plan.

Otherwise, another option would be to purchase an individual life policy.

Seeking for other opinions in order to make a better decision.

Currently spouse and I have the same personal coverage as follows, paying RM380 and RM300 respectively

1) Life RM10k
2) Crisis Shield Plus RM100k
3) PRUacci guard RM100k
4) Medical R&B 200
5) PRUacci med RM3k
6) PRUacci Income 5units
7) Enhanced PRUpayor Basic

I also have employer's Group Term Life coverage of up to RM300k in case of death/TPD.

My employer also fully covers all medical costs for myself, spouse and child.

Looking into the following:
1) Increasing life coverage for spouse RM500k
- Was quoted PRUwealth RM250/month

2) Increasing life coverage for self RM500k
- Was quoted PRUwealth RM177/month

3) Medical card for child
- Was quoted RM180 for R&B 200

Reason:
Life - The surviving parent / guardian has income to provide for the family
Child's medical card - The surviving parent / guardian does not need to worry about medical expenses for the child

Obviously budget is a constraint here. I've read that insurance premiums should not exceed 10% of your monthly income, otherwise it's over insuring In this case, it will exceed slightly.

We did consider term life insurance but the monthly premium is about the same (RM20-RM30 difference/ month assuming if term is for 30 years)

Am I overpaying / over insuring in the first place?

How do you balance / prioritize or adjust if you were me?

Rule of thumb is

Life & Disability coverage should be atleast 10x of your annual income

Medical card is a must for every member in your family.

10% monthly income is just a guideline, not necessary you have to follow strictly 10% whether to spend less or more than that is based on your own capiability.

You also need to find out why you're buying 500k, why not 1 million ? 2 million ?

How long will 500k last you? Factored in inflation yet?

And by purchasing all the above, you're already saying "Budget constraint" therefore, you will need to prioritize, everything might look very important now, but if you can't afford it now, it's no point signing up the plan.

Perhaps you should do the upgrade on stages based on how much you can commit into the plan.

I can only give an overall outlook without looking into your overall finances (income / expenses) etc. Cheers

Membership is only RM10/mthly.

This RM10 is paid separately from the monthly premium.

Thanks for your feedback.

RM500k will be able to cover approximately 7 years of annual income (not taking into account inflation yet).

Existing RM300k from employer can cover up to 4 years so in total can cover 10-11 years.

Housing loan already fully covered by MRTA, no other big loan other than hire purchase of 20k.

For spouse, anything more than 500k is way beyond affordable for now even though got no other life coverage other than the existing plan of 10k

Yes understand need to prioritize thus asking around for opinions here smile.gif

if you have surgical history, yea you have to maintain the current policy. unless the new medical insurance application got no exclusion on that (depends on company's underwriting). perhaps in your situation, just apply something and see how the underwriting goes.

there is only the AIA Vitality program that rewards healthy individual. By sitting down with an agent and discuss things out then you will actually know what you want in a plan that benefits you. Also check out what your parents is paying for you then from there you work out something.

must ask your company.

what is your age and occupation? cz from what you and your spouse are paying for, the benefit seems little (the Life 10k). i might be wrong though since I duno your age/occupation/smoker,non smoker.

budget constraint based on the 10% monthly income? from my point of view, its difficult to judge whether are you overpaying/over insuring. I believe by discussing this with your agent before that, you will be clear of what you want out of the insurance plan.

if i were you, perhaps i will find out with the same premium amount you are paying right now, can you get better benefits from other insurance companies (since budget is a constraint here). if it is more or less the same, then top up a comfortable amount of premium and check again whether the new benefits added is what you expected or not.

looks like very well planned already thumbup.gif
For spouse, since more than 500k is way beyond affordable, try to see whether can top up in the existing plan of life 10k or not. perhaps top up till it reach 100k (or the amount that you desire)
