Thinking of applying for HSBC's 0% CIP to take advantage of current market weakness.

RM12k at 0% over 12 months - pay RM1000 monthly.

If I can afford the monthly repayment just from my regular salary, any downside to this? Planning to dump it all into malaysia small cap fund and asia pacific ex-japan.

from my side,... frankly,.. I'm not so in favour of using leveraging/gearing in equities and bonds. Just be careful.

Yeap maybe I should wait after US midterm elections and that will be after budget announcement as well.

I wonder how the bank benefit from this if I can just cancel the card that I am supposed to sign up with them for this CIP.

er.. checkout the "Balance Transfer" thread in LYN.
lots of us robbing banks legally tongue.gif - ie. having cash to pay off BUT get 0% balance transfer 12/6 months, then accumulate in FD/money market fund /flexi mortgage for interest

some semblance related to FSM la - Money Market funds/ ie RHB's money market fund in FSM tongue.gif

<end of OT - will not continue this here notworthy.gif just pointing to fellow investor where to get free $ >

eh? shot for what ar? i dont control the markets.

heck, markets go up, ok ar - see net worth bursting & asset re-balancing
markets go down, ok ar - buy lelong via asset re-balancing
markets go side ways... if no dividends, i sad a wee bit but can still see net worth going up due to savings.

snowflakes should read more - the enemy is self, fear & greed. thus, why angry/sad/etc? do it with the numbers/process thinking

I think the people who are affected most are the ones who bought on margin ! Hence,... the disappointment because the losses are amplified if the valuations hit margin calls and they are not able to top-up,...

As the mkt falls,... I am hearing comments like this already from my wealthy friends around me,....

ouch.. leveraging when markets were not on lelong, i feel them.
since they're wealthy, ok ma - they've other sources of income to top up/buy lelong right? (after taking care of the margin calls, if any)

Wild Ride in Markets Driving You Up the Wall?

Are Markets Making you Sick?
Investing can be a mentally stimulating excursion. At once a highly regimented art form deeply rooted in technical analysis & financial theory, but also reliant on gut feel, grit and plenty of gumption.

So when markets vault and fall, some investors can get overwhelmed and be swept away by the volatility.

Studies have shown that stock market volatility has a direct correlation to increased hospitalisation rates and incidences of mental health disorders.

A research produced in 2014 which tracked hospitalisation health records close to three decades (1983 – 2011) found that daily fluctuations in stock prices has an almost immediate impact on the physical health of investors, with sharp price declines increasing hospitalization rates over the next two days.

In a chilling example, on October 19, 1987 otherwise known as Black Monday, the US stock market plunged by over 25% which led to hospital admissions spiking by over 5% on the same day (Source: “Worrying About the Stock Market: Evidence from Hospital Admissions” by Joseph Engelberg and Christopher Parsons, University of California- San Diego, October 2014).

Sounds alarming, but that’s what the data shows.

However, the important lesson here is that whilst markets are bound to recover and benchmark gauges will recoup their losses, your health may take a turn for the worse and deteriorate beyond the normal course of recovery. sweat.gif

I have a saying to my friends abt investing into Healthcare REITs :1

1) When mkts are good, the Healthcare REITs will do well.

2) When mkts are bad, the Healthcare REITs will do even better !

for those who are panic at the moment , don't be panic, just relax and DCA

in my case, i stopped DCA end of Jan (which is the peak of the bull run since last year), and my current portfolio looks like this

i stopped DCA because i registered as unit trust agent beginning of this year, so all my money DCA to that company

currently holding 7.6k in CMF (entitled 0% sales charge until 30th October), was thinking should i invest or keep the cash at the moment (was thinking keep some cash for stock market).

any discussion are welcome.
