Bros,.. I said SG gov't policy is generally to keep its currency strong, relatively... because a relatively strong currency is able to mitigate inflatonary pressures and to keep prices in the country stable, at least for the medium term. SG imports most of its goods, hence, it needs a proportionately strong currency.

Not for other countries,... and well,... I don't think I'm wrong in my perspective for SG,... at least till now,... don't know abt future-lar,...

Bro Ramjade - I never said ALL countries.

I thought the Singapore authority doesn't want to have influx of hot money into their shore.
By allow appreciation in currency, won't that attract influx of foreign money?
*
Bro,... SG is today an international financial centre. It would like to have investments, but required it to be clean money,... accounted-for money and money sourced by legal means. The MAS itself is now building a centralised KYC (Know-Your-Customer) database that will be able to track all investors and depositors in the country.

I feel,... that soon, it will be very difficult to open accounts in Singapore,... they will need too many documents, especially from Malaysians,...

For myself,.. this volatility is troubling too,... I continue to earn regular dividends from my holdings, and after spending whatever necessary, I am nervous with whatever else to do with the remaining amount....

I have disposed my USD and Euro -denominated funds early this year and put my USDs into Foreign USD FDs. Euros have zero FD interest rates currently, hence, my Euros are sitting idle,... though some have been deployed into Euro-denominated REITs in the SGX. sad.gif

In the Aust Securities Exchange,... I am eyeing the banks now - will be entering the banks and FIs slowly.

In the SGX, I don't know what to do now,.... SGD FD is too low,.... still thinking,... but holding-on to my SGDs,...

Sorry, off topic a bit.

Have you reconsidered Singapore Savings Bonds? Back then, you strongly discouraged me to invest money in Singapore Savings Bonds, because we can get higher dividend and capital gain via S-Reits and Singapore Shares.

Now, your tone seems to suggest that in view of volatility, you keep your spare SGD cash in Singapore Savings Account. Since it may not be right time to buy more shares in S-Reits and Singapore Shares (waiting for market crash), Singapore Savings Bonds can be a viable option for the time being.

Anyway, you certainly have better ways, than me, in investment. So, just disregard my opinion, if it is not suitable for your situation. No offense intended. smile.gif

Tq bro,.. for the recap,... times changed,... yesterday,... I realized my Astrea IV PE Bond Fund looks fine as an instrument for "parking" my idling SGD, waiting for deployment,...

Maybe this thinking might change later too,.... biggrin.gif

increase rate will bring "unhappy" effect bond fund... isn't it..
*
Yeah,... aware of this too,... but I'm banking on the 'safety-gaps' that this PE bond fund has that was built-in at the IPO stage,... The risk factor is definitely there,... but, in exchange for above 4.10% yield, this is the best risk-reward opportunity at this moment.

The SSB is,... of course, safer than the PE Retail Bond Fund, but the return is lower, and there is a lock-in period.

don't forget this year end got 1 more increment.

and then our darling trump blown another crazy statement to Fed. Voilaaa.
*
Since this PE Bond Fund IPO'ed this year, the issuers would have known of this risk, and made provisions for it. If this instrument IPO-ed two or three years ago, then they may not have been able to 'foresee' this IR rise by the Feds.

I believed,... come to think of it,.... the financial safeguards that the issuer has in-place for this issue was put in-place to counter the IR increase by the Feds.

Just a thought that came to me suddenly,... why, compared to other issues which do not have financial safeguards, this particular issue has such a thing.

I think support for DJIA is 25000. If it can break that,  except further drop.

Of course,  one must be prepare to act and buy if think is cheap enough. For me I haven't utilise my PRS allowance for the year so definitely looking to scoop up if big sell down.
Ok cause DJIA, s&p500 rebounded partially.

Agreed: Missing timeframe.

Anyone can comment on the severity for a mkt like this, if this happens, if that happens, if breaks 25000... etc,... I see this everyday in my Inbox sent to me by NABTrade.

I have a term now: Index Traps. The indices go up a bit,... people start fearing they might miss the boat. Many jumped in,... then two days later they drop again,...careful bros and sis,...

We have Value Traps, Yield Traps and Growth Traps. This time round,... we have Index Traps !!! The indices are luring us into the snake holes....

Thinking of applying for HSBC's 0% CIP to take advantage of current market weakness.

RM12k at 0% over 12 months - pay RM1000 monthly.

If I can afford the monthly repayment just from my regular salary, any downside to this? Planning to dump it all into malaysia small cap fund and asia pacific ex-japan.

from my side,... frankly,.. I'm not so in favour of using leveraging/gearing in equities and bonds. Just be careful.

heck, markets go up, ok ar - see net worth bursting & asset re-balancing
markets go down, ok ar - buy lelong via asset re-balancing
markets go side ways... if no dividends, i sad a wee bit but can still see net worth going up due to savings.

snowflakes should read more - the enemy is self, fear & greed. thus, why angry/sad/etc? do it with the numbers/process thinking

I think the people who are affected most are the ones who bought on margin ! Hence,... the disappointment because the losses are amplified if the valuations hit margin calls and they are not able to top-up,...

As the mkt falls,... I am hearing comments like this already from my wealthy friends around me,....

ouch.. leveraging when markets were not on lelong, i feel them.
since they're wealthy, ok ma - they've other sources of income to top up/buy lelong right? (after taking care of the margin calls, if any)

Yeah, bro,... but some became greedy when the mkts kept rising,.. and also when their RMs kept encouraging them to take on more and more leverages....

I have a saying to my friends abt investing into Healthcare REITs :1

1) When mkts are good, the Healthcare REITs will do well.

2) When mkts are bad, the Healthcare REITs will do even better !
