I'm driving MyVi with the GPS unit and wondering if any of the package above will affect the GPS signal? I'm not very sure about this but I have read many feedback that 3M Crystalline isn't SmartTag friendly, however no effect on GPS signal. Anyone care to chip-in any information or feedback? smile.gif

Both of my car is installed with 3M tinted.

Crystalline series will affect Smart Tag (Yes n No) This very much depends on the SMART TAG lane. Some lane are ok some are not.
May be this is due to the device on the lane itself, brand new unit or old unit.

To solve this problem the very top part of my car was tinted with black color film, not 3M. Only the little part was not tinted with 3M Crystalline. Then I will place my smart tag over that area each time I pass the Smart Tag lane.

Or Alternatively you can opt for 3M FX HP film, which is smart tag friendly.

Both car fitted with different series of film, one car Crystalline Series Full, another is FX HP Full. Both got no issue on GPS signal.

Hope my 2 cents helps.

hi, am new to this car tinting stuff. Hope sifus here can give some data input

i am looking for tinting which can block the most heat while compliance to JPJ, and won't affect GPS signal.

Any recommendation on brand/model should i take?
Priority: Heat, Durable, JPJ compliance, GPS signal

high appreciate your advise!

I just done my homework recently and I managed to find good package for 3M Crystalline, Huper Optik X3 and VKool Elite which considered among the tops in tint films. I didn't go deeper in checking about VKool since most mentioned VKool tint has metal material and thereafter some pros and cons. Not to mention VKool price tag is higher than the other two and potentially SmartTag unfriendly.

On 3M Crystalline and Huper Optik X3, both shouldn't have any issue on GPS signal however 3M Crystalline has tendency of failing SmartTag. Since on quality and performance wise almost the same, I went for Huper Optik X3 smile.gif

On JPJ's approval is 70% VLT front & rear, 50% VLT for sides. Well, Huper Optik will absorb the saman if you got them biggrin.gif

Hi viper1912, thanks for your feedback. I have done my tinting with Huper Optik but this is good information to shares with new folks here. In anyway, the shop that I went is a 3M authorized applicator too. He added that some of his clients tinted with 3M Crystalline doesn't has any issue with SmartTag unless it is older generation of the SmartTag device, then it wouldn't work.

Hi vearn27, thanks for the knowledge sharing

For Huper Optik X3, I found one of the link here,
http://www.huperoptik.com/en/smart/
which of these that you installed? and may i know the price for it too?

For 3M Crystalline,
http://solutions.3m.com.my/wps/portal/3M/e...TechnicalSpecs/
Crystalline 70 is the most premium that it offer? do you know the price for it too?

Currently, on my shortlisted so far are raytech V90 (ard 2k), protech elite (ms.canny) (only Rm160?!)

I done mine at RM1,450 for MyVi SE with 70 front + 40 for sides & rear at Crystalfeel Auto nearby Tesco Ampang smile.gif

I do recommended another Lowyatian, Irbean to get his car tint done at the same place and he's happy with it. In fact, he done it before me since I had tight schedule during that time biggrin.gif

Refer my reply to widget for the price. My specification for Huper Optik tint is:

Windscreen (Front) - Clear Ceramic C70 (70% VLT)
Sides + Rear - X3 Ceramics C40 (40% VLT)

This configuration come with 5 years warranty and JPJ Saman absorb.

Well, the shop that I went do offer Crystalline series too at the same price of Huper Optik as he quoted me. Not necessary you need to opt Crystalline 70 for all windows but you may mix Crystalline 70 front and Crystalline 40 for the others smile.gif

Thanks Bro notworthy.gif . So it's Ecotint = Toyota's Standard Solar Film. Its VLT, TSER n UV rejection % is Ok, but for its IR rejection is quite low- 74% for front n 60% for side/rear whereas other brand is at least 90% above. As usual.. the salesman told us not to install outside bcos it may void the warranty if anything happen to the windscreen, power window, electrical glitches n etc.

My other ride got V-Kool Elite which is very good in keeping the car cabin cool even on a hot noon n Smart Tag works fine but always got problem with GPS signals especially in town; I suspect is the high rise buildings. For low density area n highway; the GPS signals works fine. My frens using 3M hv the same problems too.

Installer also very important; my fren encounter nightmares with outside branded installer for his Prius 1.8 bcos of poor workmanship on uneven edge cut n edges peeling out. Although is under warranty, it is a big hassles going back to the shop many times to rectify the problem. Luckily mine is ok.

Bro, for my upcoming ride Prius C, I prefer to install a branded ones with a RM2k budget. Which brand n model should I choose n must be GPS friendly n JPJ compliance? Will it void the Toyota's warranty? or else have to use the Ecotint's Toyota Standard Solar Film -RM1.4k with low IR rejection % meant for Prius C. Another option is special arrangement with Toyota for their Premium Solar Film -RM2.4k with higher IR %.. which might fail JPJ compliance bcos the Prius C windshield, side/rear window already originally comes with the Laminated Green Tinted with UV Cut. What is the Laminated Green Tinted with UV Cut, is it a window tint film or the glass itself?.. icon_question.gif

I noticed that my security film 5mil look blur(like waves) from certain angle..
Is it because of the bad quality tint or because it is security film?
Noticed also some edge of the tint is easily peel. Please help.

Yeap, VKool, 3M Crystalline and Huper Optik are only solar film. Security tint you may want to look at Llumar which is pretty popular for its security tint. However, for security tint the heat rejection will be lower than solar film.

Advise needed. Considering between these 2. Budget 1k for Myvi Lagi Best. Solar + security tint. Both are VLT 63% UVR 99% IRR 95% 7MIL Thickness.

I recommend 3M.

Regarding smart tag issue, they can tint the top 7 inches with a different dark tint, then the rest with crystalline.

I tinted my roc with colorstable 35 all around with crystalline 50 in front, my 2 buddies did the same with their passat CC and Polos, my dad did his crystalline 50 all around.

All for damn good price.

Can PM me if u ts are interested then I can recommend my installer.

No regrets, in fact I'm now waiting for my Kia forte to be done. Stripping off my Ecotint which was too bright causing glare and poor vision...
