Cannot wor..

The shop say the hub comes with the disc brake. I got 3 options:-

1. install a normal disc brakes (RM600-700) and then install the Deore XT cassette and RD.  rclxub.gif

2. Buy whole groupset and install one shot..  hmm.gif

3. Sell the current bike and get a new one (which I don't think wanna waste that money)  shakehead.gif

LOL... Mind to share which excellent shop recommended you that option? Selling ur current 7spd bike and get a brand new 10spd bike is an option. Might be cheaper than part by part upgrades too. I think there are Exitway brand bikes that comes with 10spd SLX group set for 2k plus?

At 600 price range hydros, I consider pretty good Dee.. Those brakes can easily do 1 finger endo liow...

Not just one shop, 3 shops give same recommendations.

1. Godzilla

2. Joo Ngan

3. Specialized

I gotta admit.. My current bike, Trek Tarpon is really basic...

Just googled your bike.

If you wanna save some money and get the perks of a 11T gear, can get this:
http://harriscyclery.net/product/shimano-h...fw4300-qc49.htm

You're running these wheels currently?
Formula FM21 front hub, Formula FM31 rear hub; Bontrager 550 36-hole rims

Ok, did some googling for ya and this is what I found: A 7speed hub will be able to accept 9speed or 10speed cassette with some mods done.

http://sheldonbrown.com/k7.html#bodycompat
http://sheldonbrown.com/k7.html#897

Wanna save money, gotta do homework and DIYs and risking chances that it might fail/won't work.

If you decide to try this and succeed, bring your bike back to those shops and show them the middle finggah! thumbup.gif

Just so we're on the same page, here's your previous question and details:

I wanted to upgrade my bike from rojak group set to Deore XT. But was told that I need to change to Disc Brake.

Is it true? Currently dunno what is the spec but RD is Altus and FD is Tourney.

QUOTE(guilt79 @ Apr 21 2011, 06:46 PM)
Thanks for the feedback.

I asked 3 shops, those guys said I need to change to disc brake because it goes with the hub. So, change disc brake means need to change hub and cassette. Ultimately, 3/3 recommend me change groupset. Cheaper.

I'll wait for the new Deore XT groupset. Wonder when is it out.

OK. Brought my bike to show the shop, Joo Ngean. Ok, to get Deore XT, do the followings:-

1. Change a compatible hub and disc brakes.

2. Change rims.

3. Only can fit Deore XT groupset.

Total cost: RM2,700 (Even more expensive than my bike)  shocking.gif
*
Your bike is 7speed and u wanna change to a 9speed or 10speed groupset. And you wanna do it cheap, right?

Your wheelset, which is a 7speed wheelset, can't fit 9 or 10speed cassette.

1. So you can try the DIY method I mentioned above

2. Get a new/used wheelset with 9 or 10speed capable hub. If you want to maintain your current vbrakes, just find a new/used wheelset that has vbrake rims.

3. You can just get a rear hub that's capable of 9 or 10speed cassette and relace your existing rear wheel at the bike shop of your choice.

4. Sell the bike and get a 10speed bike.

So 4 possible ways to achieve what you want. Choose your own poison. thumbup.gif

Hi riders,

I have been loitering and shopping at the bicycle shops around Klang Valley for awhile. Getting to know different brands and products each carries, and expand my cycling networking too.

Just a summary on the bike shops I have been to...

1. KSH Cycles (TTDI)
First, don't get confuse with KSH SS2 near Taman Megah, as they are different bosses at all. A small but compact shops, more for XC and DH bikes. There are few frames (on different brands) options for roadies too. Most importantly, very friendly and customer-centered service.

2. KSH (SS2)
Very neat, and clean show room, you won't be missed on the shop as the BIG Merida signboard on top. There are plenty of roadie jerseys to choose, and easily get poisoned to spend more...

3. Joo Ngan's Son (I'm Cyclist, Damansara Uptown)
Very friendly boss, and plenty of bike accessories. Appropriate pricing, and helpful staffs. They are nice to lodgers, even you are just window shopping.

4. BikePro (Taman Megah)
A place where you can meet pro riders occasionally, like Anuar M, Haffis and L2a team too. Plenty of shoes choices like Sidi, DMT; and other accessories too. Fully air-conditioned show room with Scott bikes mainly. This is a place where I can shop "quietly", without disturbance.

5. Due Roda Extreme (Shah Alam)
It carries bike for Bianchi, shared with superbikes next door. Good thing is, you can try on different Super-duper Bikes (engine idle, of cause) if you get bored on self-powered "dua roda". One more thing, you will be served by a MTB champion... He can be your riding companion (or coach) too!

These are just my experience, my apology if anything sounded bias. Happy shopping, and "kayuh" always...

Hey there,

I need some opinion about road bike rims. I have a Shimano R500 wheelset that came with my Avanti. I'm a pretty heavy guy (95kg) about 180cm .. Every weekend (both sat and sun) I do a nice solo ride from Batu 18 Hulu Langat till the the border of Negeri Sembilan climb. First few times my rear wheelset didn't have any problem but recently it seems like everytime after a ride and check my wheels, they need truing ... Weekly RM 30 truing my wheels are pretty costly to me and already happened 3 times in a row. I'm not too sure isit my weight or the rough roads that causes it.

Any recommendation wheelset that cost less than RM 700. which are pretty tough that can handle my weight ?

Isk.. Sorry. I replied using IPhone earlier.

Thanks Kaizer. I'm thinking of getting the hub + 10 speed cassette + rims + disc brakes. The Deore XT can wait because want to see if the Deore XT really coming out in July.

Hi all,

Anyone got recommendation for handlebar grip?

Currently using the Bontrager stock grip. Very uncomfortable.

Got those that can absorb shock?
