This thread is strictly only for pictures posting.
Please post your own pictures and don't go spamming like "Wah nice setup!" or whatever.
Those who wanted to give comment please directly pm the user by pressing the PM function button that provided.
Update your own post for new pictures.
The purpose of this is for a clean thread and for easy viewing.
Also, keep your pictures at an appropriate size, best would be 800x600.

So guys, grab your DSLR or digicam or whatever and start taking pictures on your gadgets now, and pimp it.
Hope that everything will run smoothly.

P/S: Strictly NO SPAM please, PICTURES ONLY, and follow by some discriptions by the poster only.

(just in case someone mess thing up here)
There're 2 ways on pictures uploading i'll recommend, which is Imageshack and Photobucket.

By using Imageshack
Logon to http://imageshack.us.
Browse the picture that you wanted to upload.
And check the "resize picture?" after you've selected "800x600 (15-inch monitor)" as the size to resize your picture.
Then click upload.

After that, you'll see something like pic shown below.
user posted image

By posting your pic on this thread, please select link that provided by "Direct link to image", and use to IMG function to post your pic here.
Example:
CODE
[img](link)[/img]

By using Photobucket
Logon to www.photobucket.com.
Login or register if you don't have an account, its free.
Again, browse the picture that you wanted to upload.
After that, click the "Uploading Options", and select "15" Screen ( 800 x 600 )".
Then click upload.
user posted image

After that, select the "IMG Code" given and paste that into your thread.
user posted image

P/S: Please avoid using the "File Attachments" function, cause this will lead you to a tumbnail, that people might lazy to click to see the full view.

You people and your ghey ass clean rooms tongue.gif. Here's how a true workstation and audiophile setup looks like! Well atleast i'm not at bad as Patrick82.....laugh.gif

My humble and of course very unkempt work area.......my mom calls it my pigstye, i call it....my pigstye too! YAY, atleast we agree on something! Everything except my soldering work is done here. Manfrotto tripod over there for greasing duty, which i can never seem to get to.

Portable setup (3G ipod and PX200) and extra hardware (Geforce 6600LE, CFX3200 mobo, X1800XT 512mb and empty ink cartridges) with some basic test instruments, Cisco router, hub, and my cute picture mate....kawaii lol!

user posted image
Dual Monitor work area, and my audio side, i keep audio to the left and computers to the right. Tons of stuff including ICs, Pile o' CDs and thermocouples, plus my 50sen collection in a cottonbud jar.

My Zhaolu and HD650

user posted image
Closeup of my laling HD-650, a marvel of laidback sound and Bavarian engineering, not to mention a geezer called Sennheiser.

user posted image
ZL2.0 closeup, blackgate and Silmic II modded, decoupling caps removed, tank caps changed. Takamisawa relays to be installed later (bought wrong relays the last time), will change the LDO regulators and maybe some Burson Discreet OPAMPs down the line.

user posted image
Nothing to do with Audio, but i'll say that any true audiofreak has a must read list, my happens to be Philosophy, Opering Systems and TCP/IP. Anyways to anyone who wants to get into audio, i suggest Barron's Electronics the Easy way, seriously, it's an awesome begineers guide, plus it's cheap!

hehe yeap. Other than the superbly muddy bass from the subwoofer at mid-volume, it serves as a good bedroom speakers smile.gif

I am sorry if this sound like a personal attack but rest assured its not. Somehow, I don't understand the need for reserving a space in a pic thread or any other thread except for trade threads. Can someone explain to me the need for reserving a spot? Can't you just post your relevant info when the time comes?

Once again let's be reminded that this is not a personal attack in any way. I am just curious blush.gif

btw, if i use cap ayam DVD player to play music but i connect thru SPDIF to a DAC and AMP, it is just as similar as using a better player right?

Blackhart,

Actually the speakers cost almost the same as the CD player. Although the amp is the cheapest component, at 50W it can drive the Evo3 with ease, can go very loud cool2.gif without clipping.

Piscesguy,

Yes, the pc sound only for my gf when playing games. I have 'retired' sad.gif from playing PC games because not enough time. I rather use my free time to enjoy music.

U are right. The bass is boomy & reverbs due to my small room. I've been looking for affordable room treatment solutions like bass traps & absorbers, but all of them are overpriced. I will check out this coming AV fair. doh.gif

Worst to worst i will get rockwool/glasswool etc & make sound treatment panel myself rolleyes.gif

Nice setup sham73, with the legendary 3020i amp.
Where did you get this amp anyway?

From the 2 pics, it seems you really enjoy music at nite with soft lighting.

People, whats a good brand of speakers to buy?? I looking for good sound quality - prefer to get 2:1 speakers... and also for my laptop. Looking at sonic gear, edifier, altec lansing. Budget not a problem - I focus on sound quality... list down your opinions ya... no bias opinions though....

1st 10 hours shows it synergies extremely well with my ATH-T4. Making my 8 year old headphone shine lol. But it seemed to have made my 580 less fun but with higher clarity lol.

wow nice setup rclxms.gif  i think the speaker put on top of the amp is not recommended but i see u place is pretty pack... soo no choice 640 is my dream amp but out of my budget sad.gif
Cambridge Audio 640 one of the best amp ur one is v1 or v2 smile.gif ermm i test MS 902i with my Marantz amp is pretty bright high extension is nice very control but vocal side slightly thin compare MS Carnival 2 ,but 902i  bass are superb  very fast n dynamic accurate also .... smile.gif
*
Ya...cuz too pack..no place to put all stuffs probably.. Now wait to move to new house and then can get a larger desk space.. I choose it cuz it has deeper bass than carnival2 and diamond 9.1..hehe..Mine is CA Azur 640 V2 thumbup.gif

lol there goes my van den hul the bay C-5 cable..
i really miss the sound of it after i sell it. .i really regret.. make me gone crazy. my whole setup sound thin after i sell this cable.
and after that i directly buy van den hul MCD D102MKIII . =( cost price already more than RM 430.. plus soldering lead already more than RM 450.

anyone interested in original van den hul can call me up.
price :
1m pair van den hul the bay C-5 + 4pcs Neutrik profi + silver black sleeve + WBT silver solder lead = RM 350
1m pair van den hul MCD D102 MKIII Hybrid cable + 4 Pcs Neutrik profi RCA + WBT Silver soldering lead = RM 500

both cable were RCA-RCA. note that D102 cable is flagship of the mid range interconnect from van den hul. and retail price for factory terminated 1m pair D102 ranging from RM 950- RM 1100 now. (of course, factory terminated might have slight better quality)
cable source were coming from authorized dealer and guaranteed that it is original.

Cool setup! Garyfirex, you must enjoy your audio system very much. Btw, what are those 'spikes' above speaker?

Here's mine setup. See my signature below for components.

Nowadays, I listen to music ripped from CDs into FLAC, WMA (>800 kbps VBR) format via wi-fi network music player - Slim Devices Squeezebox 3.

Sometimes, I am using iPod Touch as remote control to select my ripped songs from my music server (external HDD). icon_idea.gif

the spike u see on top of the speaker is actually a floor lamp behind the speaker..how long u bought ur concertino? fully runned in yet? mine hav just around 2 hours..but the sound is already very good for my taste.. rclxm9.gif

mine? er.. i bought it at 26th april up to now i guess around 70 hours burn in already. i am hell happy for the sound. but it still has different with the unit in the hifi shop which has burned in for more than 500 hours.
that unit sounds really good..i bring my amp and CDP to the shop to test that unit before i buy a new one.
and mine unit is getting nearer to the sound characteristic i remember. although only 70 hours.alvin told me that my speaker can sound like theirs after 200 hours burn in.which from my observation is some how true.
after this concertino. i will wait until i start working, and save up for Guarneri hopefully. second hand one also nvm. lol
and i wish to have Guarneri momento once in a life time. (Guarneri anniverserio.)

hi pcwork , ur setup is also cool man ! hand made in italy...initially im seriously thinking about sonus faber speaker too but bcoz this is my very 1st setup, i hav to get all the components at the same time so i dun hav the budget to go for sonus speakers..i guess in the future when my speakers needed an upgrade, i will go for sonus faber..i like the domus concerto n the cremona auditor...haha in the cremona range the auditor is all i can afford i guess..smile.gif

the spike u see on top of the speaker is actually a floor lamp behind the speaker..how long u bought ur concertino? fully runned in yet? mine hav just around 2 hours..but the sound is already very good for my taste.. rclxm9.gif
*
I see, it's floor lamp, thought you have wireless antenna installed for wireless music. smile.gif

I have bought SF concertino domus for half a year (my serial number is 2061 compared to pcwork's 2876), more than 200 hr running in, the sound is superbly clean, clarity, i can hear different instruments played in Jazz from different position, nearly symphony as well (depend on recording quality), i don't find as if i have speaker installed. brows.gif . In fact, I have got consultation and advice from the R&D designer of SF, Dr. Paolo Tezzon on speaker placement, with some trial-error toe-in.

But, the most important is to enjoy music and not too much of components, when time comes, then only upgrade to another level.

Cheers.

thinking about it, going around auditioning different speakers n setups r really quite enjoyable..its a good learning process also when i listen to what different dealer says..i hope my rti a7 will improve more as the hours pile in thumbup.gif

You are absolutely right, your ears are the best tool to distinguish your best sound system based on your taste, it's subjective. No one is right or wrong.

Floor standing or bookshelf speakers really depend on your room dimension, setting out.

As my room is small, bookshelf speaker is adequate, otherwise, it's too boomy bass.

Cheers.

basically they had all sonus faber (i saw Stradivari, Amati, guarneri, Cremona, Auditor, Elipsa, Concertino at the shop. the real things is standing there. infact each time i went there i were to listen Amati, and total accumulate time i audit that specific amati has been more than 600 hours.) if you want. they also have wilson audio. if i am not mistaken MAXX2 is comming.
AE full range they also has. Mission too.

well. he is super nice guy. with a lot of professional knowledge. they went singapore / hongkong for training. and Andy even went to sonus faber factory for a visit, and he did bring back 1 pair of pure white AMATI speaker, which is limited to 5 pair in the whole world only...
that's superb things. and it's sold.... shocking.gif shocking.gif shocking.gif shocking.gif
if you interested to get their speaker. u may follow me the next trip i went there. perhaps this coming weeks. as alvin haven't issue me receipt for my concertino domus.

if i were to talk about alvin, i will describe him as "everythings also can bincang" kinda guy
and he is friendly to me. =) (your milage might vary) but as i knew alvin for about 2 years. he never show anythings bad to me.. so i guess that's safe enough for me to describe him as good man.

below is part of the picture taken at alvin place.
Disclaimer. this is not advertisement...i just share what i saw and thanks to coolerthings for his superb skill in taking pictures. if one found it's not suitable. please do let me know. i will edit this post to remove ALL pictures. Thanks.

Elipsa.. looks really cute. i though it's as big as stradivari, but shorter, who know it's hell small.. can put on table.. very nice.. wide baffle bookshelve..what i am impress is, that sonus faber even giving a bottle sort of white wax lotion to wipe the speaker body and the driver... i was thinking to get one bottle to wipe my concertino...when i asked alvin what is the white white gummy lotion.. he answered me.. it's "spe*m water" with this kind of face ->>> brows.gif brows.gif brows.gif

Orpheus DAC.. (RM 100K eh..)

infact why i were so close to them , as i don't have enough money to bought a proper setup until recently. i previously bring my DIY cable to perfect hifi and CMY audio in cheras south to test it out.
with sort of lower end of hifi. some like AE neo, AE lite , Sonus faber concertino, or even proac Studio 110.
until recently i did Van Den Hul interconnects, i bring it to perfect hifi to test it on some 20-30K speaker. like auditor M.
alvin also did give me a lot of critism / suggestion (which the ratio has much more critism as compared to suggestion.. lol) anyway. i were to take that positive and continue to improve my cable. As the first time, he critic my cable of L is 0.4cm longer than R side. so he said that if he is customer, he will use my cable to tie up his dog....
so the next time, i made my cable exactly long. which i don't emphasis what i did over internet. but indeed i take that into serious account. cable length, soldering quality, price, sound quality, the material to match with such as soldering lead, or even RCA plugs.
i remember the last time he heard my cable.he were about to say somethings. then when i push the play button. he has weired face and say "ok loh.."
and that's comparing to some lower end Zu Cable.
lol
enjoy the picture gallery of higher end setup at picture above.. which doesn't belongs to me. hahaha

what do you mean like pail?
i assume if you said that is mid bass phase plug. which actually both driver are equipted with phase plug. while tweeter are radiator ring tweeter.
the so call pail part won't move with the speaker cone. it's there to reflex some frequencies so that it doesn't focus in front of driver and hence enhance sound stage and eliminate unwanted high frequencies "not" (frequencies interference which will greatly enhance amplitude of some specific frequencies.)

if the cone is broken, have to purchase the exact same driver from sonus faber loh. if i am not mistaken, the driver were either scanspeak / vifa brand.
tweeter confirmed is scanspeak.

if the driver looks normal. meaning it only has dust cap.
to cover the voice coil part so that no dust enter the gaps between voice coil and magnet.
IF the dustcap is rosak. either u can purchase normal one in jalan pasar. or u have to buy a whole new driver.
for example, B&W 601 is using rubber dust cap to absorb extra vibration at the edge of the diaphragm which connected to the voice coil. if you replace it with plastic / paper / cloth material dust cap. it will greatly influence the sound.

the lighter the material used such as paper / cloth. the more high frequencies noise you will get.

Sonus Faber is speaker for mids. when the music gets heavy, sonus knows its limit and your ear will start to search for that parts that is missing.

I begin to wonder on my setup (B&W 602 dynamic, clear and deep) , that on one hand i like the rock and roll but the mid and vocal are gone. if you listen to ProAC, Sonus, Opera, they give you hear tons of it. I begin to think is it my amp giving me the problem, which supposedly tube amp (soundstage 1.5) should give me good vocals. then I was told B&W 602 and Soundstage does not match..... sad.gif.

So i have a problem, and hope to hear your comments. Of course, i will bring my amp and speaker cable to test out at (hi way laser ?)

I have also auditioned the amp like Creek (RM 2400) and Exposure (RM 2600), which sounds more promising than my soundstage amp. however being british amp, u have to follow the british rules. clarity, at the expense of soundstaging. agree ? lets comment.

another amp i auditioned is chinese made Xindak. start with A100 then X6800 (Class A) and then X6950 (Class A). When I start with A100, i was like ok loh. Then X6800 is wow and then X6950 is like wow wow. When you switch amp to a higher class, it seems the speaker soundstaging just open even wider, making the speaker worth the value of a higher class. Being class A amp, I have not actually follow thru the rule to let the unit warm up, and typically takes 15 minutes or so. so I wonder if Chinese would ever make it to the world hifi amp arena. (remember Cayin, now the other chinese amp famous and won praise is AD86N)

based on what you do your judgement? which model of sonus did you heard that problem? what amp they use to pair with it when you heard that problem? coolerthings and several forumers come and listen to my tiny concertino and they didn't found that problem either.
i owned 601, then switch to epos ES-11 while keep 601. and comparison shows that ES-11 is way better than 601. then now i know myself where is sonus faber by owning all three sonus faber concertino domus + Epos ES-11 + B&W 601. and i seriously don't find sonus faber concertino domus as lowest end sonus has any lack in bass. the only draw back of sonus faber (which i think a lot speaker does has same similarities, are being extra sensitive to your source. if your CD source is recorded with bad recording. it will sound sucks anyway. as it is less forgiving compared to B&W 601. but on good recording speaker. i seriously don't find sonus lack in any places.
wanna go alvin there and have a proper listen at sonus faber? see if the sonus giving up at heavy music or not?

grandspy will tell u about this as he personally audit it.
well all people in internet said sonus is good in vocal. doesn't mean they are lack at other parts. and get an impression for a brand based on common internet review without properly go and audit it often created biased opinion towards several brand.
go search review of Guarneri Memento with a small bookshelve speaker form factor of 150mm mid bass driver.
and see if any review said that speaker has lack of speed and bass?

I dont listen music to loud level, just enuf to enjoy at ordinary level. I auditioned the speaker with Creek using the tracks from Janis Ian (breaking silence) and 4 play (chant). From my own taste, I feel the B&W 602 S3 bass is more punch and engaging wheareas the sonus is just lacking. Well I happen to listen to the same track using amati (and unison research) and this is a totally different class, perhaps for those who owns Ferrari and Porsche.

BTW, a little off topic. Sifu Pcwork. I happen to see the speaker cable on sale at Amcorp i.e. MIT CL14-4, arrow, Bose. Price range around 350 - 600. Are they good? How about Cable Talk 3 (it seems cable talk 3 receive good review ).

well that's is because creek is not powerful enough to drive sonus. and B&W is easier to drive.
that's all i can say. and if you said amati has good sound. then you shouldn't make the statement "sonus faber is for mid speaker. when it comes to rock it will lack of somethings". it's matter of you can pay the price or not. if you can pay the price. they will be hell good.
u make your statement that sonus faber is not as good just based on one model? which might not even well driven. creek is a big no no to vocal heavy speaker like epos and sonus faber. i have one creek on my hand now send in to solder some loosen part.
it's better that you claim that sonus faber specific model under wat wat amp is not as good as B&W601 at this range.
i can't take one hyundai matrix and compare it to perdana. and saying "hell this luar negara car not even as good as our proton.."

Well my preference tells me so, and the auditions represents my opinion about what I think and feel. No one speaker sound the same, all depends on individidual taste. I am inclined more towards rock, occasionally vocal. So much so, I am getting another reference series speaker which coming soon. and this speaker will give me rock an roll, and the designer is Phil Jones.

Sonus Faber is speaker for mids. when the music gets heavy, sonus knows its limit and your ear will start to search for that parts that is missing.
*

How can you be sure that it's due to the limitation of the speakers and not the amplifier? Think about it.. nod.gif

QUOTE(ccschua @ May 11 2008, 07:02 PM)
If you start all over again, so which one u choose first logically, the amplifier or the speaker first and why.
*

As I've said before, start with the speakers and work your way up to the amp, then the source.
You know what, if possible I want to skip the amplifier part and go straight with the source - speakers, bypassing the amp. Do you know why? well.. think about it first.. biggrin.gif

QUOTE(PcWork @ May 11 2008, 07:02 PM)
grandspy will tell u about this as he personally audit it.
*

Hmmm.... I'll not comment much on the Sonus Faber but let me just say that IMHO, with the right amp, it will blow away most other speakers within their price range, to pieces. But I do understand when people say that SF are not for Rockers. Indeed, even my 13 year old missions have more Zing when fed with some rock music. But then it's just zing and zest with no substance.. pretty emotionless if I may say so. If that's what you're looking for, then SF might not suit you. As for me, give me the SF anytime biggrin.gif

btw, I won't be using a RM2,000 amplifier to drive a RM10,000 speakers... although I know someone did just that.. brows.gif But if it suits you just fine, then all is OK nod.gif

Cable Talk - Talk 3 is a very fine budget speaker cable. Some time even better than those that cost twice as much. Highly recommended. Used them before. As a matter of fact, I like them so much that I tried to use them to wire my car audio system but they're just too bulky and very unflexible.

Pcwork, I don't know SF Concertino Domus is so difficult to drive well. May i know which amp are you using now?? Please share some experience to us. Thanks! smile.gif

For my opinion 602 not quite the hi end detail of the SF.

he is using BOSE companion speaker. =)

kkthen, by the way. i am driving my Sonus faber concertino domus with NAD 3020A amp.
it's only rated with 25 watt. but i had request some E&E guys to do more grounding in the machine, extra grounding makes the background of music super quiet. and i am listening at low volume
sonus faber concertino is not hard to drive. but in order to drive it to the taste you want, it require some test and trial.
not just simply blast. it will go loud. but it require good controlling amp so that it "behave" nicely.
creek is one of a big no no according to my experience testing with my own sonus.=)
it will become bright and bottom light.

NAD 3020A... my first ever amplifier. Bought second hand during my uni days, and I had to catch a bus to the guy's house to bring it home. Brings back great memories. What a classic amp!

yeah. it actually did perform very well
i bring my nad 3020A to several hifi shop when i am going to buy my speaker.
and i found out this NAD drive sonus not bad.
of course,. not to say actually perform it well. but to a level which i enjoyed the music.
and according to a lot of ppl, sonus still has big potential to upgrade if i upgrade my amp.
well i will keep that to the time i have enough money~.
by the way. i had upgraded the internal op amp caps from rubycon 2X 1k+ micro F to parallel configuration of 2 X 1k+ mF + rubycon 2 X 13K+ mf + rubycon 2X 2K+ mF caps.
what i get is. still same sound signature. but faster speed. much more quiet background.
i still keep the old rubycon inside. so the mod is just basically add in parallel caps.
=)

I dont agree with this statement. if you have follow the internet, NAD 3020 is classic item. by classic, means its collector item. it is one of the best sounding amp by NAD. some people are crazy over vintage item (like beetles car), e.g. mcintosh power amp, MC 275.

but I would like to know how it sounds if SF is match with say Audio research preamp and Krell KSA250 ?

Hi pcwork and all, my current 50W cambridge audio integrated amp able to drive SF concertino domus, what's your opinion if a higher wattage such as 80W integrated amp connected to the speaker? Will the sound stage wider? hmm.gif

Looking for Krell KAV-400xi integrated amp, but some reviews said it would get really hot when running for long hour. Have you come across Krell?

Was the centre speakers temporary? It seems block your LCD TV. IMO, the subwoofer should be on the floor.

PCWORK has a good point. We all know the 3020A, while being a classic, is certainly no slouch. As long as it is worked within its limits, it will continue to drive the Concertino quite decently.

I used to own a pair of Minima Amators. They served me very well for many years. From what I last heard, they are still serving its current owner very well. It's no secret that Sonus Fabers are built to withstand the test of time. While the Minima Amators are regarded by many as a real b**ch to drive, I personally found that it did surprisingly well with a Menthor Integra pre and Arcam Alpha 8P power combo. Only when they were pushed to the very extreme in handling complicated classical notes, did the cymbals break as the notes became compressed. Take note that I don't normally listen at these levels. It was just a test to see and understand where the limit was.

A later upgrade to a Pass Aleph 5 saw the problem went away. In most setups, the limitations are usually at the amplification section. Speakers in general have greater tolerance to limitation than amplifiers do.

In my own personal views, I have always found it peculiar why the general public is inclined to think that Sonus Fabers are difficult to drive. Unless you are driving a pair with a 25watter amp to fill up an auditorium, they are actually just like any other speakers and I say this based on my opinions and as a faithful follower of the brand. Apart from my starter Mission 731i kit, my other speakers have always been different models of the Italian margue. You can say, it is their signature sound that I have grown so accustomed to hearing and appreciating. Over the years, I have lived my life with the Concertinos, Minima Amators and Signums. While these are all very good speakers, it is the Minima Amators that I still hold fond memories of. Perhaps they just suit my listening tastes better than the other two.

Sure there are many excellent speakers out there that will probably give Sonus Faber a run for their money but I speak for other owners when I say you can't go wrong with them, whichever model you end up buying. It doesn't matter even if you have a mere 25 watter amp, just go, listen to what they can do. Peace my fellow audiophiles! smile.gif (and no, I don't work for Sonus Fabers, neither am I affiliated with them in any way)

transparent cable produce a much clearer sound and there is lesser ambient noise, just perform like when u attend a live concert, and u are not listening to a recorded music, when it comes to compare with aego stock chicken speaker cable......haha... besides that, transparent cable also produce a peace/stable, sound....... free from undesired noise

today try with Single Crystal copper cable. This blue snake is a real shocker.

Single crystal means continuous copper, almost without grains.

How much did it cost for you to bring it over from Sg? And also any tax charges acquired?

They have some really interesting prices there though.

hello to all sifus here...a couple of questions on my upcoming hifi setups

i used to be on home hifis...in fact was running on Audiolabs 8000 series together with Epos.....
then went into ICE.....am still in ICE...and now planning to get a better hifi set for my new home

i also noticed that quite a number here r SF fans and close to perfect hifi

i was browsing through the perfect hifi website and saw their SF Grand Piano speaker pairing with Audio Analogue.

Now....i've listened to SF Grand Piano in Bangkok, and i must say it just took my breath away. OK the Cremonas is abit pricey for me....besides..
i still love floorstanders...Cremona floorstander....wah...pocket beh tahan
d Grand Piano was paired with a McIntosh C200 and MC275 tube pre/power and also McIntosh cdp.....

I have two setups in mind:

Setup 1:
Densen Beat 150
Densen Beat 420 CDP
Focus Audio FS-688 SE
XLO Signature 3 cables

Setup 2:
Audio Analogue Puccini Settanta
Audio Analogue Paganini CDP
Sonus Faber Grand Piano
XLO Signature 3 cables

now i've auditted both systems and both hv their pros & cons which leaves me undecided. price wise...they r bout d same

i chose XLO cables over Transparent and Zu bcoz of personal taste of characters which i hv spent hours auditing with couple of frens

IMHO....the SF grand piano with audio analogue is sweet, smooth and transparent. abit laid back compared to the densen/FA combi.
the densen/FA combi has more dynamics, accuracy while it lacks the vocal smoothness and character.
The SF set seems to have my kinda of taste...just a little bit lack of dynamics and attack when i need it...

i must say both produced accurate imaging, staging, height & depth
for transparency i would vote the SF
for more accuracy and control..esp damping factor i would vote densen/FA
for vocals smoothes, warmth, character...SF would seem a better choice
FA lacks of very low bass due to bookshelves while the Grand Piano is good at low but lack of mid bass attack
d Densen produced better headroom compared to d Audio Analogue...but argueable due to different sound room

so i hope d sifus here can share their views.....
i hv spoken to alot of ppl....and d more dilemma i'm in now....

Added on October 5, 2008, 2:22 amalso...my setup 3 option:

McIntosh MA6300 or MA6900
McIntosh MCD201
Sonus Faber Grand Piano
XLO Signature 3 cables

Thanks, not really bright. The metal dome speakers do bring out the highs nicely.
The ZZ1 is well balanced and theres less fatigue compared to my previous amps (Avi & Bel Canto)

The remote control is a OneForAll universal remote. Looks really cool at night with its blue backlighting.

Yeah, totally agree with you about the speaker. I would consider that the amplification deserves better but times are bad so I have to go for this "poor man's Micro Utopia". But having said that, the Usher is not a bad speaker and is probably equivalent to something higher priced from UK or US. The Ushers replaced a pair of B&W 805 which costs a fair bit more, so that tells you something about what standard of speakers that they are comparable to.

The granite slab under the power amp has wooden cones, and the granite slab under the CDP has Vibrapods.

Are you using the famous usher BE 718? I love this bookshelf speaker very much in av show 2008, far much better than primare + proac d2 which more expensive. May I ask where to get granite slab.

Audio Nirvana,

The speaker is one of the most bang for buck speaker!! (especially when you buy it at Taiwan!! Half the price!!!)

It's most of the editor choice speaker of the year...try to read stereophile review...it can be compete with Dynaudio C1 as long as you have powerful amp

Yes, I think the Usher BE-718 is one of the most bang for the buck speakers, even though the price here is more expensive than Taiwan. Having said that, we do get it cheaper here than in US or UK, and even at their prices, the Americans still think that it is great value for money.

As for the granite slabs, I got them at this granite factory near Subang Airport. They do granite for kitchens, etc. Only regret is not getting the edges polished as well. Will have to do that next time.

RM7.5k. My opinion is that original stand matches the speaker in terms of look, but I don't think it's all that solid and I think there are other stands out there that would sound better.... like those made by Partington and Sound Anchor (both of which are sadly unavailable in Malaysia).

I certainly wouldn't dare to, but this is the Stereophile review that mentioned the BE718 "came eerily close" to the C1.

Out of the three, I have auditioned the X10 before. I will say it is a more refined SA6 with better bass and slightly better treble, though the soundstage is little smaller. For US$200 (discounted price a few weeks ago), it will be a good buy. For the original price, I would rather have SE530 or TF10 instead. Still haven't heard W3 or IE8 yet.

From my understanding, just use the headphone with lower but hearable volume first for hours (maybe for 50 hours). After that can use it to whatever your prefer volume. For me I would go until I don't hear any sound from surrounding area.

Same like for new car... drive 60 - 80 km/h for first 1000km....

Maybe yes, maybe not. If you buy an expensive audiophile, I think you will take care of it right. So, I don't think straight away use at high volume is recommended.

I have see a few earphone or headphone coil damage after using for a while.

chef have used quite a lot of model, whether ring radiator or revelator.

the best cook is the recipe, the cross over network to get the taste lol.

yes the cabinets are made by me and the drivers I bought from mainly european speaker driver manufacturers, as someone so kindly made the list of drivers above.

Chief,

that's lot of poisons. vifa, scanspeak,Seas,Eton u have used all .

Do u have a dynaudio clone.

I am having fun modding the speaker crossover network. Keep changing the cap.

hi Chua,

yes the small ones in my living room next to the tv in Langkawi are Hi Vi woofers that clone the dynaudios.
yes true it is a lot of poison but been building for three years now so you tend to collect alot on the way if you dont sell them...

thanks to all for your generous comments.

as i have two kids whom dont share the tv with daddy, i get banished to my bedroom, so i listen to music a lot on my nad system.

oh by the way chua i just installed the Burson discrete op amps into my rotel rc1070 pre-amp. will wait a bit for some burn in time before i make any comments but straight up it was very nice, and i spent most of today in front of them churning through the discs...

cheers

Yes. I think what u get is clarity and transparency like never before. that is the discrete opamp at works which is known to be neutral.

That opamp needs about 300 hours of burn in. U just need to make sure the RC1070 is on, no need to feed with music. There is a bias current that will run in your discrete.

The next level up in opinion is the DAC. That will consititute another 15 to 20 % of the improvement.

I know I am a true Hi Fi Kaki, or Gilah anyway you look at it. My mother in Law is from KK in Sabah and everytime she looks at me building a new pair of speakers or see's a new pair inside the house, I am sure she wonders why her daughter married this very crazy orang putih in the first place.

But as my wife puts it as long as I am busy doing my hi fi gear , I am not chasing other girls at Nightclubs, so overall she is very happy to have a hubby like me!!!

cheers

How much does that set costs? How is the sound compare to Z5500 (stereo mode to be fair)

I still think its a bad idea for so close to cpu. Are you sure the sub is magnetically shielded? Or just the sats.
