Thanks, Saksoba
Because I have just got the final result from SLB and offer letter ^^! I am Vietnamese ^^!so, perhaps I will work in Vietnam. For national driving license, I am trying to learn and get it ASAP but I do not know that they will pay back for the license fee or not or just pay back for International license?
For status HCM, is there any chance to work abroad? tongue.gif

Great then. I have a friend too, Vietnamese friend. He is in SLB as well. Maybe you will meet him later on. LOL. No, they don't. They don't pay you for the license.

For HCM, I'm not really sure. I guess depends on your job and current/future status, you might be re-assign to new job thus there is possibilities. 3-4 years. Good luck smile.gif

and how's the stages of interviews flow ?
1st stage is what 2nd stage is what?

I got 5 round interview and test totally.
1st round: We will have 3 minutes for each candidate to introduce themself. After that, the recruiting manager (RM) will announce the result. In this round, there are 6 candidates who were fail in totally 38 candidates.

2nd round: they divide into 3 groups with 8person/group. in this round, we will play game with the topic is: Build a Hotel is at least 1.1m in height and can allow 8 golf balls put at the top of Hotel. After that, the RM will ask each candidate,ex: what is your real work in your team? who is your leader? why do you choose him/her? If you are leader and I ask you to recuse 1 or 2 person in your group who will be recused? how height is your Hotel? give exactly the number of height without using ruler and explain how can you measure?......Finally, RM will announce a half of candidate list for 3rd round.

3rd round: face to face interview, the question is not difficult, just ask about your life, your study, your family and your activities....If you have many activities, you should show them what you have and please heart - to heart talking thumbup.gif whistling.gif . After finish 3rd round, some will be called to interview with segment manager, some will be back home. But nobody know when they are called. In my case, when I came back home and I recieved a call from SLB to come back company to interview with segment manager (round 4). They proposed me to wireline segment and I interviewed with manager. The questions are also not difficult.

When I stayed at home, I got a call from SLB again (around 8:30pm) and RM announced that I had 1 night to arrange everything to prepare for 1 week exposure at Vung Tau base.... sweat.gif rclxm9.gif
During 1 week, I had to learn as much as possible but I were not allowed to do everything because I had not learned Sefety yet. After finished Field exposure, I had to present what I learned in 1 week, there are many questions from FSM, FE/FS... cry.gif .and T finished round 5.

After 1 week, SLB called me again for health check and vaccinations. If your health is good, I think you are 99% to be SLB's employee.

quite interested with the job scope as it is highly associated with what i do.

Depend on your segment, Manager will show you the scope of job and everything about your job, your life in SLB.

@quangbkb

I'm a bit confused because the fella called me informally. Even sent me few emails in informal manner.

I am currently working right now and needs 2 months notice for termination. Seems like the way u said in Stage 4, they insist u to go for field training within 1 night. Is it gonna be a problem for people like me?

I'm quite sure some of those who went for the interview must be already working or something.

No problemo. Wished I get the job though. I applied online in 'Engineering, Manufacturing and Sustaining' career section in Slb's website. I have an Meng in Electrical and Electronic Engineering. For sustaining, they're mainly looking for Electrical/Electronics/Mechanical/Mechatronic Engineers. An Msc/PhD would be an advantage. There were 4 interviewers and all of them are foreigners. The hiring manager is American, one of his senior team member is Indian, and the HR personnels are Norwegian and Indonesian smile.gif

Good thing that there was no offer from them. I wouldn’t recommend based from what I have heard from people who’s working there. Maybe the plant setup is still new, but I noticed a lot of double standards. For instance, when we travel from Penang to Norway, their daily allowance was only RM100/day. McDonald’s in Norway is about RM80/meal. So, go figure. Conversely, when they travelfromNorwayto Penang, they were given RM500/day. Again, go figure.

This company is also the only company who have the most stringent rule when comes to driving. For instance, one cannot drive >15km/h within the factory compound. C’mon, my apartment’s and most company’s internal compound speed limit is already set at 30km/h. And they really enforced that infamous 15km/h rule. So how does the security proves that you drive >15km/h? There’s no concrete proof that one have violated the speeding rule. So, if the security guard don’t like you, he/she can just simply say that you are driving >15km/h.

Another interesting rule is, one MUST reverse park & before reverse park, one must horn first to let people around you (if there’s any) that you are reversing. Every staffs must take driving test which is conducted every 2-3years. Their driving test is 10x more stringent than our JPJ driving test.

Some of the managers have the tendency to throw the blame on you for the mistakes that they made.

SLB might not be the best company in the world, but from my perspective, this is one of the best for every fresh grad to start. They have a very good training program, and good opportunities for you to work abroad.

The environment might be like hell sometimes, but you can quit anytime after you get the most of it

I bet their office in KL is much better as compared to the manufacturing facility in Penang.

Wow..really? What's with the double standard? I'm quite used to 25km/h speed limit and reverse park at workplace but 15km/h and having to horn is really something else..lol

Err, driving test only needed when driving SLB vehicles, not your personal car, and its a commentary drive. You can google it, there are quite a lot of examples of them from the UK, Australia etc. Reverse parking is mandatory at all SLB facilities, and is actually a better way of parking, IMHO.

Per Diem is dependent on arrival location, not sending location, and only for G11 and below. Inf act, G11 and below has the option to pay and claim, and not use a per diem.

Its a good place to start, see whether you can fit in with the blue culture. Its tough, but rewarding wink.gif

From what I know SLB did a survey and found that more of their employees get injured or killed in automobile accidents compared to anything else, hence their strict HSE rules regarding auto safety. Shell is the same where you ultimately can get percentage points deducted from your bonus (which end up to be thousands of RM) although not to the level of having the commentary drive.

understand that, but this rule certainly not applicable in a manufacturing plant as compared to a more high risk area, such as oil rig.

Well, from what I heard, none of the staffs were driving SLB vehicles. All of them were driving their own personal car, and still need to take the commentary driving. IMHO, method of parking should be dictated by individuals as practical and safest as possible. Just do a survey of the number of motorists who reverse parked their vehicles in the shopping mall next time.

As for the per diem, the Malaysian staffs were briefed by their Norwegian personnel counterpart. Nothing was mentioned about "pay and claim" option.

Agree on the fact that it's a good place to start one's career. Their management need to improve on their under-trained managers. (i.e. : new managers who were not from manufacturing experience taking up manufacturing role especially during new factory setup, HR manager who was a secretary previously, managers who blamed the subordinates for their own mistakes, etc.)

Anyone knows about the training facilities that slb has, the one I know of is the MLC, middle east learning centre. What about other facilities in other country? Does the company sends trainees to specific training centre such as mudloggers were sent to Dubai (MLC) while wireline engineers were sent to Colombia. or is it random?
