Are you referring to their newly set-up Financial hub in Bandar Utama?
*
Nope. Financial hub does mainly financial stuffs. They employ mostly accountants.
People in Schlumberger Business Consulting are mainly management consultants. They do what McKinsey or BCG do, but focused on the oil and gas industry.

the Penang Western Geco is more like production right?

Went to an interview with them but sadly unsuccessful. It was a session consisting of interviews and presentations. Although I don't work with them, but at least I have an idea of what they're doing, well..at least I have an idea of what the Sustaining team are doing because I was interviewed for the position of Sustaining Engineer.
Basically in Sustaining, you'll be supporting the products that have been manufactured there. If there are any problems at the field on the seismic products, you'll be required to identify the problems and find the solution. The works are mainly based in Penang, but if you're required to go to the field, you'll have to go. They're also working closely with the Product Centre in Norway so at some point, you'll get to travel there smile.gif

wahh....good thing to share...
BTW, how do u applied for it? and what's ur study background? mind to share? ..smile.gif

No problemo. Wished I get the job though. I applied online in 'Engineering, Manufacturing and Sustaining' career section in Slb's website. I have an Meng in Electrical and Electronic Engineering. For sustaining, they're mainly looking for Electrical/Electronics/Mechanical/Mechatronic Engineers. An Msc/PhD would be an advantage. There were 4 interviewers and all of them are foreigners. The hiring manager is American, one of his senior team member is Indian, and the HR personnels are Norwegian and Indonesian smile.gif

i went to interview last month at western geco, penang too for manufacturing engineer..success on 1st interview but i reject to went for 2nd interview..btw my representative is eilin gule? same as you?
*
Yup. Mine was Eilin too. Had 2 interviews prior to the final session (3 interviews + 1 presentation). Basically I stumbled in the 3rd interview (technical). I think the structure of the interview depends on who the hiring manager is. Btw, why did you rejected to go to the 2nd interview?

wah 3 interviews + 1 presentation is quite challenging i guess..and yes my 2nd interview is a technical interview but i refuse to attend since i got another job offer which i think more valuable compare to manufacturing engr  smile.gif ..do you think working here at western geco is a good stepping stone in OnG areas? for me the scope is too small since slb penang is more on production on seismis product..
*
I'm not so sure. The most that you'll get is familiarisation to seismic equipments. I'm not too keen on manufacturing, that's why I went for sustaining because I'll get the chance to go to field. I like the challenge involved in sustaining and the hiring manager was very frank when he described the job (pros and cons).
You must have got a very good offer then that you rejected slb smile.gif

Good thing that there was no offer from them. I wouldn’t recommend based from what I have heard from people who’s working there. Maybe the plant setup is still new, but I noticed a lot of double standards. For instance, when we travel from Penang to Norway, their daily allowance was only RM100/day. McDonald’s in Norway is about RM80/meal. So, go figure. Conversely, when they travelfromNorwayto Penang, they were given RM500/day. Again, go figure.

This company is also the only company who have the most stringent rule when comes to driving. For instance, one cannot drive >15km/h within the factory compound. C’mon, my apartment’s and most company’s internal compound speed limit is already set at 30km/h. And they really enforced that infamous 15km/h rule. So how does the security proves that you drive >15km/h? There’s no concrete proof that one have violated the speeding rule. So, if the security guard don’t like you, he/she can just simply say that you are driving >15km/h.

Another interesting rule is, one MUST reverse park & before reverse park, one must horn first to let people around you (if there’s any) that you are reversing. Every staffs must take driving test which is conducted every 2-3years. Their driving test is 10x more stringent than our JPJ driving test.

Some of the managers have the tendency to throw the blame on you for the mistakes that they made.

Wow..really? What's with the double standard? I'm quite used to 25km/h speed limit and reverse park at workplace but 15km/h and having to horn is really something else..lol

So today i just received a call from Schlumberger Business Consulting based in Singapore. To my surprise it was a phone interview and I havent prepared anything as I am currently working too.

Anyone have any idea the nature of the recruitment for SBC? Would it be the same with the other SLB recruitment process?
anyone here working with SBC? might need your opinions and advices. Thanks
*
Hi. My friend had an interview with SBC after the phone interview. It was a case interview similar to case interviews with management consulting firms. How did you apply to SBC?

I applied on the morning of the day through my career advisor in my university, by the end of the day i received a reply email.
my career advisor said that i wont be doin engineering-related job in SBC, but I dont mind as long as I am associated with SLB. hahaha

now im reading on the case studies for the upcoming interview, it is a whole new concept for me but i am up for the challenge.

All the best to you! There's a very good book for case interviews called 'Case In Point'. Check it out smile.gif

For people who planning to apply, they only hire people with Engineering background, even for the non-technical business consultant role. (which pays the highest)

Reason is that, they pride themselves being experts in the O&G industry, hence not looking to hire anyone without engineering background for their consulting line.
*
That is not entirely true. The SBC girl that I spoke to in a career fair has a BSc in Accounting and Finance; so I guess it's not all engineering

Hmm, perhaps she had years of experience in an O&G company before joining SLB? Or I might be wrong then.
*
She joined SBC straight after graduating from LSE. However, they did advised that they are looking for people with engineering experience. One of my friend who has a degree in Theoretical Physics was also called for interview.

hi!
Anyone experienced interview with segment manager? Is there any technical question will be ask and kindly need your help since ill be going for the interview tomorrow..

regards

Hi,

Which segment is this? I had an interview with the segment manager for slb sustaining and the technical part was a disaster. I think it depends on the segment and for mine, they really grilled me on electronics (I did electrical and electronics in uni)
