I have got .DAV files exported from CCTV recording.  Then I tried to use Dahua's General Player to convert it to .AVI, which resulting in Windows 10 failed to recognize its output .AVI.  (However, I managed to convert the problematic .AVI to .MP4 using Format Factory, a file format converter)

Is there anyway to playback the .DAV file on Windows 10 directly?  If not, what is the fastest way to convert the .DAV to popular video file format?

Vlc & media player classic with kcodecs can playback .DAV files last time. That was during h.264. Lately never try.

Why not just use the Dahua player to play back on Windows 10? Smart player or whatever it’s called - works fine for me.

Or you can drop it into YouTube if you need to share it etc. works fine for DAV files

Yes, the Dahua player can play. I was thinking if I want to handover the CCTV footage to relevant authority, e.g. police, I wonder if they managed to open the .DAV file. Or when I want to circulate the video to someone, e.g. employer, through WhatsApp, then it must be in a popular video file format, e.g. 3GP or .MP4.

I didn't know that YouTube can support .DAV. Thanks for the info!

That's wonderful. I will try it when I need it. BTW, if I enable Smart Codec in my DVR, will it output the CCTV recording in popular video file format?

If you don’t really understand dvr or nvr function, you better don’t go out and charge for any services.

Conventional alarm normally will have few methods of notification, fixed line, GSM & internet. Most smart home alarm system is only Internet. Conventional CCTV mostly are wired. Smart home type usually wireless but you still need a power source most of the time.

Depends on your needs.

For me I need something not too expensive and just works how i need it. I installed it 2 months ago bluguard v16+ not the smart one. But connected to the internet. I can arm and disarm the alarm through my smartphone and monitor which zone is open.

When the alarm trigger, i can check my house using my cctv apps.

I saw bluguard smart system also on their website. they got wired and wireless for smart system.

I got my 4mp poe camera bullet/dome for RM250 each. Look around in lowyat.

Better start planning for wiring first. The cam and nvr can just like plug n play only later.

I think you're right. I didn't know my Dahua player can choose video format to export to USB drive. Great, the DVR can output .DAV and .MP4

This morning I will receive a UPS (backup battery) for DVR and its camera.

Does it worth? RM 200+ and able to sustain 20 minutes after electricity cut-off.
The duration does not include monitor /TV, only DVR and cameras.
