Asking the thread starter for some advice. No budget restraints but no need to go over the top. Got dogs around to help out. New build so wiring also not a problem. Which system would you recommend if:

1) Outdoor monitoring only.
2) 4-6 cameras.
3) Say keep the video for 48 hours then rewipe.
4) Hopefully can view the video from TV channel. Say channel 13-17.
5) Night vision or at least low light.

My recommendation

Hikvision English Set
NVR: DS-7608NI-K2/8P (Supports up to 8 network cameras with PoE)
Network Camera: DS-2CD2T22WD-I3 (IP67 Protection and Minimum Illuminance of 0.01 Lux)

1TB of hard drive is enough for your need, can store up to 48 hours from six 2MP 25fps camera at 5120kbps bit rate.

Yes, I am fully aware of that.
The China set only came with Chinese user interface and Chinese language.
That is why I included the English set on my recommendation also.

Need help guys, read the info but too technical for me.

Basically I bought a wireless system for rm1k however guy said need to change battery every 6months or so. So the wired alarm is better but cost me rm2k with extra keypad and without windows detector. Is it a fair price? Booked during expo.

The CCTV would cost another rm2k!

Wondering if I should just get wireless ip camera as I only need 2 and power point is ready. [attachmentid=8184944][attachmentid=8184945]

Hi, the Alarm price ok, reasonable.
But for CCTV, 2 Cameras RM2k??
Our price is 4Cameras 2k, some more using Cynics HDTVI FullHD. Not AHD which is the lowest quality among all technology.

Actually I am not too sure where to get the Hikvision English set in Malaysia.
You can search online from Google, or search in Amazon, eBay or even Taobao.
If you really wanted to get the English set, prepare to fork out 2x to 3x the price of the China set.

IoT devices are prone to botnet attacks because of the common password deployed for their back end access on SSH tunnel. Another issue with the common hack is because of the default username and password for GUI that was not changed when the installer handover to the owners.

All in all, these devices are deployed huge quantities compared to other IoT devices. Each home can easily have 4-8 devices, multiply that by thousands of residential, retails and factories and there you go, you have your Mirai botnet army ready to take down even huge sites like DynDns, which helps in hosting twitter and reddit.

I wonder how surveillance system like Hikvision can get targeted by hacker for DDOS purpose, because from what I know, most current Hikvision surveillance system will ask user to set password on first boot up. Unless user set weak username and password, or the Hikvision system itself have backdoor or security hole that getting exploits by hacker. It is always good to get the surveillance system firmware up-to-date.

There's a backdoor access, and the backdoor access is usually standardized among all devices. The backdoor access in general term is like your iphone locked screen password, whereas the user and pass prompted for you to change is like the app with password. So long as your root is jeopardized, it doesn't matter what password is guarding your app, or in security case the password for recorder's graphic user interface. The system is hacked from the root, the bots will then inject the malware into the device and started to target whatever servers that they were assigned to.

Btw, they do not do remote firmware upgrade because it's too risky. In the event if the update patch is terminated along the progress, probably internet latency issue or somehow it could be human error, turning off the power while uploading, it can risk the device being bricked. Even if they are not, how can they convince consumers to buy products that the manufacturer has backend access? "sorry, we keep the access to remote login just to update firmware?"

It's security and privacy that we are selling, remote login for firmware upgrade is simply the opposite of the core value. Maybe it works for other IoT devices like fridge and whatnot, but even few years back when TV manufacturers started having their smart TV sending back packets of data regarding on the channel viewing, time consume on selected channels and so on, people with cameras on their TV got quite concerned. So, backend to CCTV is just... not acceptable in at least the western countries.

Bro, you can DIY this on your own. These are the items that you need

1. Analog cameras (nowadays hard to get analog cams, get those 4-in-1 cams, ask the manufacturer to switch to analog for you.)
2. Coaxial cable (you can get a drum or buy loose)
3. VDE cable (just get a roll of 60m)
4. 12V 2A power adaptor
5. Since there are two cameras, and only 1 RCA connector on your TV, you'll need to get a RCA switcher. Press switch 1 for cam 1, switch 2 for cam 2.
6. BNC connectors and DC plug male
7. RCA connectors

and... there you go! complete system.

I've PM'ed you for pricing.
