QUOTE(evofitpt @ Jan 5 2018, 11:42 PM) Apple Pay on Apple Watch does not require your iPhone to be with you. As long as you’ve added the card into the watch, you can use it without the phone. To activate Apple Pay on Apple Watch, the watch needs to be unlocked with passcode. Apple Pay can be used in Malaysia already in any retailers that accept PayWave / PayPass. No additional hardware is required by the retailer. No Malaysian banks currently offer Apple Pay so you need an overseas Apple Pay account to use Apple Pay here in Malaysia. I have been using Apple Pay on my iPhone or Apple Watch here in Malaysia to make contactless payments with no troubles. My Apple Pay account is linked to an Australian bank. Every time I pay with Apple Pay, the retailers are always surprised that it works. Additional hardware is required at the backend. For the frontend, the POS terminal might be the same, but the backend is different. Currently, bank in Malaysia haven't implement it for Apple Pay.

QUOTE(magnor @ Jun 12 2018, 09:26 PM) Apple Pay available in more countries than Samsung or Google Pay but unfortunately Malaysia is not one of those countries. https://blog.passkit.com/list-of-countries-...nd-android-pay/Looks like only option for Malaysians is Samsung Pay at the moment. This is not 100% true. It is depends on the number of device users that are able to use such mobile payment. From what I knew, Samsung Pay is only available for mid to high range handset. Compare to Apple, every iPhone release since 6th generation are supported Apple pay. So, this is not a fair comparison. For infrastructure wise, Samsung pay adoption to the existing infrastructure is much higher. No additional hardware is required. it is working like normal paywave and paypass cards.

QUOTE(simonhtz @ Feb 20 2018, 11:23 AM) Yes. Any paywave terminal will be able support to Apple pay. IIRC, it was Dome at the Curve and McD at Teluk Intan. Didn't like the currency conversion though, since it was a Sg bank's credit card that was linked to my phone. Anyway, looking at why banks here support Samsung pay and not Apple pay, it tells a lot about phone ownership here in Malaysia. We just happen to have more Samsung phones in Malaysia market, period. If we have more Apple phones in the market, credit card operators will just support Apple pay. Wow really I guess no harm trying.btw everytime I scan my touch n go,the Apple Pay function opens up haha

I tried to add MY-issued CC to Apple Pay and it said not supported yet. So if you want to try out Apple Pay, need to be tied with SG-issued CC and use it in MY.

QUOTE(calvin @ Sep 21 2018, 03:40 AM) More interestingly what terminal was used to receive the Apple Pay payment Technically, as long as it can receive paywave (NFC), it should work for Apple Pay.

Apple Pay, Samsung Pay or Android Pay are all using NFC that our credit cards are using. All terminal that accept NFC or Paywave will be able to support it. Samsung Pay even support MST that it can work on terminal that can swipe card.
Reason why we still cant use Apple Pay cause Malaysia credit and debit card cant be added onto the Apple Pay.
Is either Apple never approach local banks or local banks never approach Apple. Apple never charges fees on using Apple Pay. Samsung Pay and Apple Pay work the same way so I dont see is a technology issue. And I dont see is our bank concern cause they allow for Samsung Pay.
My guess is Msia is one of the top credit card fraud country in the world so Apple is reluctant to introduce it in Msia due to security risks.
