Hi all sifus,

I'm a research student who is trying to venture into testing my treatment in tilapia model. Does anyone know the best farm where can I purchase tilapia fingerlings (~3 inches) for about 200 in quantity? And also, what's the expected/estimated selling price?

Not sure if this is the right place to ask, but I would definitely appreciate any help/insight.

Thanks. =)

HI all, I am looking to explore an opportunity of exporting artemia to Australia however I have no experience in this industry at all as I am in the banking industry, based in Australia.

Source orginates from Vietnam/ China with the cold storage based in Malaysia.

I am looking for someone who has experience in this industry or have done something similar before to explore this further.

Please drop me a PM and we can go from there.

hi guys, i'm a student, and i'm sitting on a 5 acres of land in lanchang, pahang that my mum had no use for. she gave me permission to do away with it, and i thought why not farming / fishing right?

thing is, i have no idea where to start. i was thinking on going to local seminar and workshop by the agriculture ministry just so that i can get a gist of what i can and should do with the land in the future. but any more input / ideas / direction would be much appreciated. thanks

If u know nothing, u get the right move joining workshop from ministry. Im highlighting Ministry because they are the one teach real thing. Fishery is better but much more complex and capital involved. I suggest u start from small step before leap ahead. Many cheater in this industry, i met a few but ignored. We got scam case from LYN too.

Assume u get the training done, 5 acres u need minimum cash 60-80k for land preparation, basic irrigation equipment, fertilisers and basic equipments. Worker excluded; are u full time taking care of it? Pls always rmb, workers are not dependable unless u lucky enough to get a good one.

After knowledge, capital prepared, what u want to plant? Short, medium, long term crop? For size of land u having, palm oil is not recommended because too small to get enough return. Durian, no, unless u do this agri on part time basis apart from fixed salary.

You better off rent the land and get steady income from the rental.

1) you are student and you are not full time farmer.

2) you know nothing yet, 0 experience

3) even in agriculture, the chance of failure is highs

4) you need cash to start.

Is the land cleared of any big trees?

Water source?
Electricity?
Any monkey around?

For short term, try maize or.cucumber.
That is the lowest initial cost I can think.

Year 2012 Plans

http://forum.lowyat.net/user/MrFarmer

Planning my strategy for year 2012.
Looking at crops with minimal care
Short Term crops
Field Corns
Groundnuts
Pumpkins/Winter Melon
Sweet Potatoes

Mid Term crops
Bananas
Yam (for area prone to floods)

http://forum.lowyat.net/user/ParaOpticaL

My Focus & Strategy for 2013 is as follows :-

12ac :-
Finish planting the below
- Nangka (80%) - Well on track to fruit by end of the year (The tree fruited around the 18th month which i will post pictures later but because the tree not big enough thus added fertiliser and delay fruiting till after CNY 2014)
- Banana - Once finish harvesting TOTAL REMOVAL
- Papaya - Intercropping (Will remove as my Nangka are progressing very well)
- Durian (20%)
5ac :-
Planning to start a 1 acre papaya intercrop with durian planting before going full scale. (Changed to 1/2 acre Papaya + Durian & 1/2 acre Papaya + Soursop)

Hi. Agri field is broad and basically divided into vegetation, fisheries, others ie palm oil ect.

You can specify which subsection u wish to venture into and make a start from there.

Cheers

Is Red tilapia and Patin viable for aquaculture commercially now a days? Is there an estimated price?

Also if I want to make my own feed for the above species, can anyone provide a good recipe of the above two types of fish??. TIA.
