Is Red tilapia and Patin viable for aquaculture commercially now a days? Is there an estimated price?

Also if I want to make my own feed for the above species, can anyone provide a good recipe of the above two types of fish??. TIA.

There are people rear at commercial scale. But how big im not sure.

Best if you learn from someone who alrdy doing it but not easy to get sifu, and one that teach u everything.

Learn by blind bump...can learn more but idea of throwing money not recommended.

U can try ask gov dept for information but their suggestions is more ideal on commercial scale.

Risks exist on all options.

Pick your choice.

"Pai seh" currently we are only keeping a few red tilapia in a natural pond to understand if.....
1. We know how to keep them alive and healthy.
2. Understand the cost components
3. Understand the market situation and options
4. Understand the risk at our farm. Especially erosion from other places during monsoon.
5. Understand what other things we can do at the farm together with growing tilapia.

At the moment, if we can break even, we will be very happy liao. For now, it's more of a learning process.

And I agree, risk exist everywhere. But if you never do, you will never know, so we taking baby steps. 😁 Do slowly and keeping our eyes Wide open. 😁

If not doing in quantity fish feed will kill your business. It's expensive. Let alone disturbance and poisoning if you don't abide.

Anyway good luck

Oh, 😁 You're right.

Currently we are using about 4-5kg of commercial feed a day only, so we are still far from doing it ourselves.

It more for calculation and projection. At the same time understanding the science of it.

But using solely commercial feed, we are realizing that we can only do retail sales. So looking for places where we can reduce cost, so that bulk selling is also a viable option.

If u can retain retail sales group then is fine. But your limitations will be not able to cope surge order.

Anyway good luck. Hope everyone putting effort to this field can do well.

That our plan for now, to accumulate retail sale first. We did get enquiries for bulk but it's beyond us for now.

Thanks.

Wonder anyone else into freshwater aquaculture? Or looking to get into it?

hi, i am interested in doing aquaculture business. either marine fish or freshwater, if freshwater thinking of just doing aquaponics

Aquaponics on commercial basis too?

I suggest you split the project into two phase if you are getting into aquaponics. First ensure that your fish culture is proceeding well before the getting into the plant growing. Or else you might be overwhelme with too many problems.

I think nutrients balancing will be much tougher for aquaponics, especially the micro.

yes commercial basis. yah i think u r right in that. still looking at market availability in it

Otherwise start on a smaller scale in your own back yard to have a feel of what's its like. A simple setup will let you understand the fundamentals of aquaphonics and it's challenges. You might end up just liking the aquaculture part of the hydroponics part .

Anyway Keep us updated, this thread is pretty dead now.... Need some life 😁
