Not sure if people here are keen.

Selling family plantation land. Register under company.
Condition : old rubber trees and some durian tree not well taken care of. We will clear off everything on our own cost before sell.
Raub, mukim Gali. 18.46 acres.
Rm140k an acre or RM2.584 million.
Leasehold until 2101.

No agents or brokers.
We are fed up with them.

Is ok. Hardly get a medium sized plot over there. Normally is 1-2 acres or bigger plot for corporations.

Nowadays agents and brokers all goreng for quick bucks. In fact us landlords being squeezed by unethical person. Check on their selling price then you will understand.

I know. Honestly I wish to do start farming. But looking at the price for a piece of land online, I can only dream...

looking to make use of some land to do an orchard (5ha) and side crops (3ha).

is there any recommendation on consultants or experienced contractors who I can discuss further on the planing ? ie type of crops to rotate, planting distance between trees and the layout of the orchard and farm.

Ask government. Though it can be frustrating some times. Better than those lurk for quick profit then fail.

Where is land situated, flat land? Water availability and soil type.

thanks, I'm in Sarawak and actually approached the Ministry of Modernization of Agriculture (state) like 10+ years ago to buy dwarf Coconut, Rambutan and Durian Tree ... picked up myself from their nursery and these are supposed to come with good traits. End up fruiting few years later than normal and the fruit basically sucks. Worse than wild type that I sourced myself from kampung area.

I will give MARDI a try this time.

It's a sizeable parcel of land but I'm only planing to use 10ha, some parts undulating, some flat, some hilly situated next to river and small stream running through.

Oh ya any seedlings buy from private. U likely got F2 variant.

If u are full time on farming go with banana. Just make sure banana is something hot selling over there. Get seedlings from Felda or private. Or sugarcane. If you are doing part time then get coconut instead. Over Sarawak im not sure who can supply though. Peninsula we got UP Berhad, the only reliable provider and a long queue to wait. Up to you.

Vanilla relies heavily on pollinator like bees. Without bees, you need to do it manually. Madagascar, the biggest exporter of vanilla dont have bees. They do it manually.

from my research, only Mexico have the bee to pollinate naturally, all other places required manually.

Ya, I do look into Vanilla as well, but it requires few years before it can start fruiting. So, I did not proceed. Do you already have land?

General article mentioned about labor intensive, short pollination for a few hours at a mature tree after 3 yrs of planting. These will be main factor that affect your business.

Labor aside. You can't afford to make mistake during pollination that last as short within a few hours...after using 3 years worth of care of and expenses involved between the period.

Then we talk about growing on commercial scale, it's unlike planting 10 trees for leisure. Example, How many trees, or can 5000 trees produce 100kg of pure vanilla?

And alot more to risk to review before putting your money in. Most importantly, can you afford to be the first to do all these testing, cost and time involved? If yes, you definitely are one of early players to start earning from this plant for sure.
