Hmm, changing monitor from 60Hz to 144Hz shouldn't affect the performance of the GPU, something weird is going on here, are you sure all the settings are the same?

Back to the question, yes, upgrading to GTX1050Ti from 7850 will provide more performance but you need to find out the root cause of frame rates drop first before going for this upgrade as this is not a feasible solution.

yeah i wonder too.
but after a little bit of google, i found some people having this kind of problem too.

hello.

can you build me with budget rm3k ?
already have monitor acer r241y
skylake build.
rig only.

For best price/performance ratio, you can go for the following build, but if you don't play graphics demanding games then you can downgrade the GPU and add SSD.

Intel Core i5 6402P - RM 729
ASRock H110M-HDV - RM 245
Corsair 8GB DDR4 2133MHz Value RAM - RM 215
MSI GTX1060 6GB GDDR5 OC - RM 1129
WD Blue 1TB HDD - RM 215
FSP Hexa+ 550W - RM 188
Tecware Alpha - RM 229

Total: RM 2950 (ETech price inclusive of GST)

Your 144Hz monitor doesn't come with GSync/FreeSync technology right?

VSync on/off?

If your budget allows, upgrade to i5 6500 for a faster base clock (most of the games require fast CPU, > 3.0 GHz will surely help a bit nowadays).

Alright it is just a normal 144Hz without variable refresh rate support (like GSync/FreeSync) so the problem isn't from this technology but still kinda weird to see reduced performance when using 144Hz monitor sweat.gif

Is monitor required? If yes then your budget cannot fit a GTX1060 already sweat.gif

Intel Core i5 6400 - RM 798
ASRock H110M-ITX - RM 278
Corsair 8GB DDR4 2133MHz Value RAM - RM 215
MSI GTX1060 6GB GDDR5 OC - RM 1129
WD Blue 1TB HDD - RM 215
FSP Hexa+ 550W - RM 188
CM Elite 110 - RM 178

Total: RM 3001 (ETech price inclusive of GST)

Edit: Please note that mITX is compact, thus reducing the heat dissipation speed so the internal components might be hotter than usual (like ATX), if you can, please top up and get a fully modular (or semi) PSU to eliminate unused cables from piling up in the case (+ dust collector after a long time tongue.gif ).

i5 6500 yields a better price/performance ratio among all Skylake i5 available in the market.

ATX mobo grants you more upgrade room as you aren't going to stuck with limited PCIe slots (and potentially other connectivity ports/slots too), same goes to the chassis.

16GB RAM is recommended if you are a heavy multitasker, 8GB RAM is barely enough if you are lazy to close all the unused programs or tabs in your browser before firing up your games.

GTX1060 is more "budget friendly" (in your case), if you are ok with not-so-high-end 1080p monitor then you can use the extra money saved from U2417H for GTX1070, U2417H is a premium IPS monitor that might be a little bit overpriced in those 144Hz monitor hunters as you can get a 144Hz with the price tag of U2417H.

Aftermarket cooler is optional for your build, it is not necessary to get it initially, if stock cooler (Intel HSF) isn't able to give you a comfortable temperature and cooling then only start thinking to get a decent aftermarket cooler to replace it.

As for PSU, I would suggest a top up of RM 70 for Leadex Gold (tier 1 PSU)  thumbup.gif

1) hey guys, my current PSU CM GX650W is failing me..

I see a lot of recommendations for new rig here to use superflower leadex gold 650w, priced at rm 449.
Is it good since so many recommendations?

Just want to ask if I buy it from shops like Etech or Idealtech or whatever pc shops, do they help with installation of the psu? If yes, will the charge for it?

2) My current rig quite old. but dont plan to upgrade mobo/cpu yet..

Rig: Cooler Master HAF 912 Advance Casing @ CM GX650W PSU
Motherboard: Asus P8P67
CPU: Intel Core i7 2600 @ 3.40GHz
RAM: Mushkin Enhanced Silverline 2x2GB DDR3 (4GB)
GPU: SAPPHIRE ATI Radeon HD 6950 (2GB) DDR5
HardDisk: Western Digital 1TB Caviar Blue 32MB Cache/7200RPM
Monitor: 24" 1920x1080p
Year: March 2011

3) What other things i can upgrade besides mobo/cpu? any compatible gpu in the market that is compatible with my mobo?
-games i mostly play is dota/fifa/csgo those. not really AAA titles. is current gpu still good enough and no need to upgrade yet?

4) and also wanna upgrade/add rams to my mobo as well. Recommendations? Should I upgrade to 8gb or 16gb? and my mobo can only use ddr3 rams?
- i multitask quite a lot, and im the kinda person to leave open many tabs to read stuffs.

5) should i add in an ssd for OS and reformat the 1tb for storage?

thanks for advice.

Yes, it is a tier 1 fully modular PSU below RM 450 price tag, worth every single penny.

If you only buy the PSU and ask them to install for you (+ cable management) then yes it is chargeable, though I am not entirely sure on the charges. PSU is easily to install and you don't have to worry about using wrong cable/header because the port/connector is not the same for each interface (ATX/EFS/PCIe/SATA etc.). As for cable management, well it is easy and handful for a fully modular PSU. 500W is enough for your rig.

Modern GPU communicates with mobo via PCIe so basically all the GPU in the market is compatible with your mobo, but at a reduced bandwidth due to PCIe 2.0 interface (doesn't affect the performance too much as 2.0 is enough for now). Your current GPU is still good for those games listed, doesn't really need to upgrade unless you are craving for more frame rates or want to run them at higher settings.

4GB RAM is barely enough nowadays, get another 4GB to make it 8GB in total (can get 8GB if needed) and yes your mobo only supports DDR3 RAM. SSD is optional, if you have extra money to spare then you can consider getting one.

thanks for the reply.

i guess i'll just get 650W so that in the future if i upgrade mobo/gpu can still use and no need to upgrade again.
besides the 550w is only rm40 cheaper. not much difference in the price.

and also i think i wont be upgrading my gpu then.

looks like it'll be psu, rams and maybe SSD for me.

for the ram, my current ram is 2x2gb (4gb), what configurations should I upgrade to? If I choose to get an 8gb ram, then I would have a total of 12gb ram? But it will be using 3 slots? Should I get 2x4gb or one 8gb? and no problems using diff brand rams right?

for the SSD im not sure on the brand & storage size to get. We only keep the OS on the SSD while other things like documents, games, songs, pictures on the HDD right? So what size would you advice me to get?

I would recommend at least a setup with i5 + GTX1060 for a decent frame rate (60 FPS PCMR standard  laugh.gif ) on high/ultra settings, this will cost you nearly 4k with monitor included.

Intel Core i5 6500 - RM 862
Gigabyte B150M-D3H (D4) - RM 379
Kingston 8GB DDR4 2133MHz Value RAM - RM 219
MSI GTX1060 6GB GDDR5 OC - RM 1129
Kingston SSDNow UV400 240GB SSD - RM 296
WD Blue 1TB HDD - RM 215
FSP Hexa+ 550W - RM 188
Tecware Alpha - RM 229
BenQ GW2470H - RM 473

Total: RM 3990 (ETech price inclusive of GST)
sweet~ many thanks Terence... almost what I'm thinking of (couldn't decide on MoBo and opt for 470)

say instead of high/ultra settings I settle for medium settings (still maintaining 60FPS)... how much lower could it shave off? cause depending on the savings, I might as well live with "just alright" graphics laugh.gif

RAM is a bit hard to guarantee it will work in all configurations, even with same brand and same model (but different batch rolleyes.gif ), the best would be picking up a 8GB DDR3 RAM and then slot in directly, see if the system accepts the new RAM or not, if it doesn't then you have to take "trial-and-error" method, it might end up just the new 8GB RAM in effect where system ignores or rejects the old RAM to be paired with the new RAM, but yea this is the worst case scenario but you still get an upgrade from 4GB to 8GB. If everything goes well then you will get 12GB in total, the dual channel model (2GB x 2) will be invalidated/deactivated though, this will affect the performance but just a little which is very hard to notice in real life usage.

OS could take up to 30GB, if you plan to store games/files in SSD for faster I/O access then please go for 240GB, else 120GB is enough. 240GB is more worth, just like PSU, adding like ~RM 100 and you will get double of the size of 120GB.

Well if you are going for RX470 8GB at 1.1k then I would suggest you to switch to GTX1060 6GB instead, more performance at similar price tag flex.gif

GTX1050Ti (around RM 750) could handle the job pretty decent on 1080p, mobo can swap to low end H110 (can save up to RM 100+) as well.

Kingston 8GB DDR3 1600MHz
Zotac GTX960 2GB GDDR5 -
WD 1TB Caviar Blue 7200RPM/64MB -
FSP HEXA+ 550W

Any suggestion which part to upgrade to maximize the performance?

Im actually thnking to change a better MOBO.. Because I feel like MOBO got problem, the orange light (on CPU) always light (it's NOT blinking). Sometimes feel like hanging feel

Is that ECS mobo a local unit/set? They don't seem to be available officially here.

Apart from the orange light issue, is there any other thing that makes you feel like going for a upgrade? PC slow? Low FPS?
