if can just buy all main part (CPU, RAM, Mobo, Casing,PSU, HDD/SSD, GPU) from same shop. easy for warranty claim in future and somehow easy to get help to check system malfunction if involve 2 or 3 parts. for accessory like fan, keyboard, etc can get from any shop

You can look for ETech (Kepong), Techview (PJ SS2), DotaTech (Ampang), Idealtech (Pandan Indah) in Klang Valley area.

All of them have physical and online store too.

i5 6500 and GTX1060 Palit Dual Fan model combo is holding the best performance/price ratio currently, can be built at slightly over 3k only, it should be able to last for at least 2 years, just use the GTX970 as reference, it is almost 2 years old already and it is currently the most popular GPU on Steam platform.

RX470 is having extremely similar (or close) performance to RX480, but the pricing of this card is not that "value for money" when it compares to other cards, Sapphire Nitro+, XFX GTR and PowerColor Red Devil 8GB model all cost more than 1.1k.

Hi Terence,

Time for me to upgrade as my HDD just died on me. Revisiting my requirements:

[Budget]
Not exceeding RM3k

[Purpose]
Gaming - medium intensive

[Hardwares that will be re-use]
CM690 case, monitor, input peripherals
PSU: Silverstone strider ST50-ES Link - do you think it's wise to re-use?

[Monitor resolution]
1080p

[Games & softwares that use frequently]
Looking at like BF1

[Personal preferences]
If possible:
Processor: i5 Skylake (do you think worth waiting for Kaby Lake?)
Graphics: GTX 1060 or RX480
Storage: 240GB SSD for boot/OS.

PSU can reuse & there is a price hike recently which contributes to the increase of total cost needed. Kaby Lake will probably arrive in next 2 months or so.

Intel Core i5 6402P - RM 729
Gigabyte B150M-D3H (D4) - RM 379
Kingston 8GB DDR4 2133MHz Value RAM - RM 198
Palit GTX1060 6GB GDDR5 Dual - RM 1238
Kingston SSDNow UV400 240GB SSD - RM 296
WD Blue 1TB HDD - RM 215

Total: RM 3055 (ETech price inclusive of GST)

You can downgrade to lowest end H110 mobo to keep below 3k.

Hmm is monitor included in your peripherals (hardware to reuse list)?

This build list doesn't include monitor and I assume your case can fit all the components listed below (since the model is not listed by you).

Intel Core i5 6500 - RM 862
Gigabyte B150M-D3H (D4) - RM 379
Kingston 8GB DDR4 2133MHz Value RAM - RM 198
Sapphire RX480 8GB GDDR5 Nitro+ OC - RM 1309
Kingston SSDNow UV400 120GB SSD - RM 190
WD Blue 1TB HDD - RM 215
Superflower Leadex Silver 550W - RM 339

Total: RM 3492 (ETech price inclusive of GST)

The situation is a bit interesting here as fitting an i3 + a decent low end GPU (like GTX750 2GB) will cost slightly more than the available budget, if we "downgrade" the GPU to something like GT730 to keep within the budget, the iGPU of the i3 is technically faster than the GT730 which makes no sense to do this. So I opted for i5 build instead without any dedicated GPU.

Intel Core i5 6400 - RM 802
ASRock H110M-HDV - RM 245
Kingston 8GB DDR4 2133MHz Value RAM - RM 198
WD Blue 1TB HDD - RM 215
CM Elite Power 350W - RM 126
Asus DVD-ROM SATA - RM 69
Armageddon Vulcan V1x - RM 75

Total: RM 1730 (ETech price inclusive of GST)

Which i5? There are few mobile i5 variants, some are U version which comes with low clock speed for power saving, some are dual core based like desktop i3 etc.

Looks good, thank you.

I've edited my budget to "as low as it can get for my purpose", is this setup the minimal requirement or a bit higher than required?

This is somehow categorized as "optimum" (not higher or lower), if you plan to reduce the total cost, you can do the following:

1. Downgrade to i5.
2. Downgrade to 8GB RAM.
3. Get a 1440p monitor instead of 4K UHD.
4. Get a cheaper PSU/mobo.
