Hey all, is it normal to become so hungry all the time after I started running??? Been running for a month, about 4 days per week.

I wanna lose weight and be toned ler. Not to be hungry all the time. Like usually I take toast for breakfast and it’s enough to last me the day, but within 3 hours, my tummy is making insane noises.

I run in the mornings and have breakfast (typical hawker / mamak fare) after the run - so i rarely get the kili-kulu tummy rumble laugh.gif

But I do get it during the evenings before bed, after a quick round of HIIT - damn good for sleep laugh.gif

i think it's normal to feel hungry after running. maybe have a banana before your run and settle for salad after.
i am hungry even before my evening run. sometimes i just go for heavy meal, at least i don't feel so guilty after running.

These days manage to run about 3KM within half an hour but on treadmill.
If the intent is to lose weight, then it is useful to examine the relationship between long-term weight gain and weekly mileage.

Tracking the weight change of 120,000 persons over 20 years, the following relationship was found:
"Women between the ages of 18 and 25 gained about two pounds annually if they ran less than 15 miles per week, 1.4 pounds annually if they ran 15 to 30 miles per week, and slightly more than three-quarters of a pound annually if they ran more than 30 miles per week."

Well i can now do 0 miles cause i am starting to fall sick. I get sick every single time i changed the type of my workout and up my intensity. I think it's due subconsciously switching to breathing via mouth entirely, which is very bad according to doctor cause there's no filter like the nose.

So i need to take 1 week break from any exercises. shocking.gif

Swimmers & kayakers will surely laugh at blaming mouth breathing bcos they have no such hang-ups and even use nose clips (images below).

Mouth breathing for 1/2 hour is unlikely to be harmful. Maybe, a whole day Ironman or ultramarathon can dry up the mouth to cause caries.

The advice from doctor who is unfamiliar with exercise science is likely coloured by superstition. A professor of exercise science summarized this bias:
"When I began my clinical medical training in the early 1970s, I was reliably informed by my teachers that exercise was dangerous for human health. Since I seemed to feel far better the more I exercised, I concluded that my teachers could not be trusted." [1]

You can reduce the risk of catching a viral illness by avoiding unventilated places like gyms (& restaurants) & not touching the face.

Have a rest and come back stronger!

Funny that for the past few weeks I keep thinking it’s all these new running that cause me to have crazy hunger. Turns out that my body has been trying to fight the virus too since I notice my RHR has been quite high one week prior tested positive. Thought I was just stress out or my period was coming soon but… turned out my body was really stressed out indeed.

any running kaki here going for the DSH-Penchala Run?
I initially hesitated because they didn't announce if we would be running with live-traffic or if they would close the highway for the run.

Had to reach Litrak on FB to get my answer : THE HIGHWAY WILL BE CLOSED-OFF FROM ANY TRAFFIC during the run (except the ambulance and other emergency services on standby) rclxm9.gif

Hi guys, first time joining KLSCM here, I plan to drive and arrive at like 12am-ish there, anyone got experience before on where to park safely? I don't mind paying a little extra for peace of mind.

Here's some I found online, not sure it's accurate or not:

Are there any supplements that you all take for your knees?
*
I'm taking Piascledine atm because it was suggested at my last doctor visit. I've taken it for 2 months, going for a third now. I had a bad fell last year and it hurt one of my knee a little. Nothing too serious but theres some creaking when moving em and hard impacts or climbs will feel a little painful. Feeling some minor improvements since ive taken em but i read the research papers saying it usually took more than 2 months for the effect to be noticeable. Still monitoring em. I've started running again about the same time i start taking em too and i can regularly run a 5K at 8++ pace without it hurting and brief sprints are tolerable.

Before Piascledine, Glucosamine+Chondroitine used to be considered the best knee supplement. Turmeric supplement is another alternative for knee and joints.

Picked up running recently. Better older than never I guess in my case.
Strength training all these while. Decided that the cardio boost to overall health wasn't something I wanted to continue to miss out. Plus VO2Max improvements.

At 3 days a week currently.

Oh you've taken them before? Any noticeable improvement?

On Piascledine a month later (3 months total) my knees start improve even more. Now climbing stairs is completely painless. The creaking is still there and there's still some discomfort when doing heavy movements but the pain is pretty much gone now.

Yeah at one point before i started exercising for good, I always had knee pain, which was my main excuse not being able to exercise. I swam here and there but it’s hard to keep up cause of our weather and it’s a bit hassle to walk to the pool, change, swim, change and etc.

Now that I have started exercising consistently for 3 years now, started with low impact aerobic exercises until few months ago I finally started running, so far I never have knee pain anymore.

I just got a bottle of glucosamine so I’m gonna start taking them. It’s more like for maintenance now? Cause with all this running, I also don’t want to wear out my knee. Though articles and articles say that regular joggers actually don’t suffer from knee problems, cause they are strong enough from all the impact training?
