Usually I eat energy bar before leaving home to starting line. Surprising for me, eating mee maggi and a cup of coffee work better then energy bar  laugh.gif

I want to speculate on why you feel better with mee than energy bar. The latter's high sugar content causes your blood sugar to drop (hypoglycemia) if taken before exercise.

Our COVID cases are increasing and our trend is much more like Italy 2 weeks back. Can you imagine our number in 2 weeks after this?

Who know that among us are carrier, then after we jog we touch someone car or even the staircase railing or mebbe when we push the lift button or sweat stays there?
I anticipate the number will further increase in 2 weeks. Ironically, five days before Dr Ong was filmed arguing with the police, he went to the press to forewarn us that the authorities are not doing enough to contain the epidemic.

If the OP weren't a runner, is there any guarantee that he won't touch the stair railing or push the lift button when he goes up to his apartment? On the other hand, if the OP is aware that railings and lift buttons are full of microbes, he can religiously avoid touching them. In summary, touching railings & lift buttons have nothing to do with running, but a lack of hygiene knowledge.

Is there evidence that Covid-19 can be spread thru sweat?

Compared to going out to buy food/groceries running (solo) is so much safer
I second your opinion that there is negligible risk of infection from solo running (or cycling). Runner's World has shared how US running groups are ably incorporating social distancing under their own authorities' movement control [article link] . Following the infamous video, Dr. Ong also has called for a more intelligent implementation of MCO [article link].

Hi Guys, as RMO continues, I'm planning to have treadmill or indoor cycle. Can anyone recommend which brand is good considering practicality, cost & reliability? I am more towards to treadmill since I prefer running rather than cycling, but it is a good option if it is cheaper to have. my budget is less than 1K.
If space constraint requires u to store the mill after use, you will want a model where the deck can be folded down to the belt level so that the mill can slip under the sofa, e.g ADSports AD520 or Columbus Fitness i101.

In term of reliability, generally, the higher the motor's horse power (HP), the less likely it will overheat during long sessions.

Of course, you should not expect the sub RM1k models to be as sturdily constructed as their commercial gym cousins.

If u already have a road bike, then, a trainer that clamps on to the rear wheel axle can be considered. This combination replicates real-world riding better than an indoor cycle.

For an indoor cycle, things to look for include a handlebar that permits a variety of positions and a comfortable saddle. A heavier flywheel will better replicate real cycling.

Out of curiosity, how fast do these treadmills go.  I was doing intervals at 5’05 min/km before the MCO and was wondering what you get at the budget level.
*
In the <RM1k range, typically 12 - 14 km/h.

Hey all, just bought new running shoes. Experienced some pinch at the front of arch and there's blisters. Would this because eof new shoes and it'll slowly go away or it's my running pattern that caused it. Blisters at circled region

First, check your socks. You didn't say anything about the sock thickness. Of course, thin socks protect less well than thicker ones. Second, suspect the shoes: Do you have the same problem with other shoe models and/or with previous shoes? Have u tried loosening the lace over that area? Is the shoe too narrow under the ball? Lastly, suspect your running style. Do you land midfoot?

Assuming that there's nothing u can change in the sock, shoe or running style, have you tried common remedies like plaster or vaseline?

However , my heart rate graph is really unstable which as you said , HR drift? I am so frustrated when I am running at the same pace at my desired heart rate and my HR suddenly spikes up. It is weird that I maintained at the same pace but the HR just gone crazy.
*
You didn't say whether optical (wrist) HR or chest strap? The former can show aberrant results if a loose wristband allows sunlight to leak in. The latter is not affected by sunlight and is more accurate, but will develop contact issue after ~1 year of use. Choose your poison.

The HR numbers obtained from those age-based formula are typical numbers, but there is a large spread among individuals of the same age. To know your actual max HR requires a treadmill test of progressively increasing difficulty, such as the 7-stage Bruce protocol in the cardiologist office. :-) His HR equipment is likely more accurate than the watch you are currently using.

any suggestions?

prefer budget around RM100 ~ RM200 (250 max)

thanks

U didn't say Men or Women, weekly mileage, racing / training and preferred thickness offset, etc.

In the RM119 range, maybe Mizuno Spark 3 or Maximixer 21?

I am wearing a nike running shoes, im not planning to run marathon but i want to know how to make it less impact on my feet. Like the back of my feet really hurt after a short 30 minutes slow jog. Of course i feel like my knees have a lot of impact, while they don't hurt but if i want to do it constantly, how do i protect them?
*
U did not provide enough details to allow identification of the cause of your "back of feet" pain. However, I'll go out on a limb and recklessly assume it's achilles tendonitis.

To lessen impact, do one or more of the following:

1. lose weight because landing forces are 2-3 times the bodyweight.

2. switch to a softer surface, such as grass or synthetic track. Kenyans don't train on hard surfaces like asphalt [1 -2], so why should u?

3. Increase the incline on the treadmill [3].

4. Take smaller steps [4]

5. Wear Nike Vaporfly 4% [5]

6. Replace some miles with the elliptical

however after 2 months break and i start to get back to the regime of running, i feel pain in the leg muscle and i couldn't run as far (ie 10km,15km or 21km) as i could...anybody can advise what should I do?
*
When u take a long break, muscles & bones weakened back to their sedentary state. So, to prevent injury, you will need to gradually ease back into training. Additionally, incorporate the impact reduction strategies in Post #2579

Since the beginning of this year, I have been using the following Decathlon models, Cushion \ Comfort \ Active, as my daily trainers. They certainly cost less than the famous brands

The new Nike shoes is giving me bunion pain. This is the first time I’m experiencing this from a Nike shoes. And i actually walk with pain after my morning run. Does anyone here have bunion issues?
*
Within a particular brand, e.g. Nike, some models (typically, the racers) have narrower toebox, therefore cramping the big toe to cause bunion in those susceptible.

Some brands, e.g. Altra & Hoka, exclusively cater to bunion sufferers by widening the toe box (attached image). However, these two brands are somewhat pricier than the more popular brands.

If you want to keep your existing shoes, cutting away a "window" in the suede wraparound may solve your problem (image below). Once the fabric underneath is exposed, cutting vertical slits into the fabric will provide more wiggle space, if desired.

Is that your cutout or just a sample? Right now I put the wooden thingy into my shoes to try to ‘break’ it. Hopefully it will be better.

They are mine. My left foot has a bunion when running and none while walking.

Nike Zoom Fly 5. When I tested in the store didn’t have issues.
*
This is a racing model & so, presumably has a narrow last / toebox. A slight bunion doesn't hurt while walking - hence, pain-free in the store.

QUOTE
These days manage to run about 3KM within half an hour but on treadmill.

This is relatively low mileage. So, if the bunion is problematic at 3km, it will be excruciating at 30km!

If the intent is to lose weight, then it is useful to examine the relationship between long-term weight gain and weekly mileage.

Tracking the weight change of 120,000 persons over 20 years, the following relationship was found:
"Women between the ages of 18 and 25 gained about two pounds annually if they ran less than 15 miles per week, 1.4 pounds annually if they ran 15 to 30 miles per week, and slightly more than three-quarters of a pound annually if they ran more than 30 miles per week."

Swimmers & kayakers will surely laugh at blaming mouth breathing bcos they have no such hang-ups and even use nose clips (images below).

Mouth breathing for 1/2 hour is unlikely to be harmful. Maybe, a whole day Ironman or ultramarathon can dry up the mouth to cause caries.

The advice from doctor who is unfamiliar with exercise science is likely coloured by superstition. A professor of exercise science summarized this bias:
"When I began my clinical medical training in the early 1970s, I was reliably informed by my teachers that exercise was dangerous for human health. Since I seemed to feel far better the more I exercised, I concluded that my teachers could not be trusted." [1]

You can reduce the risk of catching a viral illness by avoiding unventilated places like gyms (& restaurants) & not touching the face.

Have a rest and come back stronger!
