Hello.
Can you all recommend something to hold the phones or masks when you are jogging/running/fast walking? Something that's not so intrusive and maybe waterproof? I am not sure if i want those waistband type or those that tie on your arms. Please recommend which ones are more convenient based on your experience, thank you! |

hello all, recently i tried putting jogging into my exercise regime. Previously i don't dare to run cause scared knee pain. After 1 year of other exercises, and seeing that my knee no longer hurts thanks to muscles building probably from squatting and all, i tried running.
I am wearing a nike running shoes, im not planning to run marathon but i want to know how to make it less impact on my feet. Like the back of my feet really hurt after a short 30 minutes slow jog. Of course i feel like my knees have a lot of impact, while they don't hurt but if i want to do it constantly, how do i protect them? |

Guys wanna ask you all ah, when you all started running, do you experience any knee pains?
Right now I’m starting to run/sprint on treadmill. Initially my knee hurts/sore after exercises but these days the pain/discomfort no longer last until the next day. I take it that my legs are getting used to the impact as well. Right now I’m kinda addicted to running, slow jog or whatever. But I’m afraid of doing it everyday (30 minutes is all I can squeeze in) cause I don’t want to have long term effects on my knees. I mean exercising is supposed to make me strong but I don’t wanna hurt my knees. So do you all run everyday? Will your knees just get strong and stronger? |

QUOTE(GravityFi3ld @ Oct 3 2022, 03:37 PM) Only run on weekends, and yes - at the very beginning of the running journey - it's quite common for the legs to get a little sore, dormant muscles being activated afterall I’m actually quite active in other exercises, so my muscles are not that sore. But knees yes cause I’m afraid of the impact from running. Recently I tried a bit of running on treadmill and it’s amazing. Now that I’m addicted I’m just afraid of hurting my knees. lol.Your body will adapt as you progress, my 2 cents is to have sufficient rest in between runs |

QUOTE(Aaron212 @ Oct 6 2022, 08:50 AM) Treadmill absorbs your landing slightly better if compared to pure road running Good advice. Yeap that’s all I’m gonna do, run on treadmill. If purely road running definitely advise for rest days in between For treadmill training maybe some days u can set on a very steep incline and walk instead Are there any supplements that you all take for your knees? |

Is ASICS the best running shoes? Right now I’m just using my Nike running shoes, it’s a cheap one, at that point of purchase cost me about RM180 only together with all the Lazada discounts. I’m considering if I should get myself a better running shoes as a long term investment?? I’m just worried about knee injury or whatnot.

QUOTE(Saya anak Malaysia @ Oct 12 2022, 09:50 AM) QUOTE(Aaron212 @ Oct 12 2022, 10:10 AM) What do you all do when your shoes wear out? My current Nike shoes still look pristine but the midsole has a long wrinkles, which according to the Internet that it’s time to change already cause the cushioning is no longer good. |

QUOTE(90Boyz @ Oct 13 2022, 10:15 AM) usually the shoe mileage in between 500~700km then have to retired it before the cushion no longer in good sharp to protect our feet Yesterday I went to Nike and bought a new shoes already. It’s higher end than the one I have been using until now so I definitely feel the difference in quality. Haven’t tried it yet so later when I run I will know! Hopefully it is less hurtful to my knees in the long run as well! |

QUOTE(biastee @ Oct 17 2022, 02:56 PM) Within a particular brand, e.g. Nike, some models (typically, the racers) have narrower toebox, therefore cramping the big toe to cause bunion in those susceptible. Is that your cutout or just a sample? Right now I put the wooden thingy into my shoes to try to ‘break’ it. Hopefully it will be better. Some brands, e.g. Altra & Hoka, exclusively cater to bunion sufferers by widening the toe box (attached image). However, these two brands are somewhat pricier than the more popular brands. ![]() If you want to keep your existing shoes, cutting away a "window" in the suede wraparound may solve your problem (image below). Once the fabric underneath is exposed, cutting vertical slits into the fabric will provide more wiggle space, if desired. ![]() |

QUOTE(ahjummma @ Oct 17 2022, 04:32 PM) testing in shop is just a while i guess vs wearing it for actual run which could be different story. my first pair was adidas and no issue too when i tried in store. problem surfaced after my first few runs. like biastee mentioned, wide foot plated running shoes could be more suitable if you have wide feet. What did you do with your shoes? I’m not gonna just thrash it away and can’t possibly return. Hopefully the shoes will start to loose up a bit. And I’m going to try those bunion lacing and see if it helps. Good news is that now I can walk properly now but I can still feel the soreness at that area. Today is my rest day after two days of run. Tomorrow will go again, maybe lesser mileages. This post has been edited by miyakochan89: Oct 17 2022, 04:58 PM |

QUOTE(ahjummma @ Oct 17 2022, 05:04 PM) that's good. then maybe the shoes still too new for you. how many km do you usually run? Not much la. I just started running also, previously was just walking, elliptical, kick-boxing, swimming, cycling and recently finally tested running and felt like my knees are getting better. These days manage to run about 3KM within half an hour but on treadmill.i gave my shoes to my cousin. nike fits me better and am thinking to get hoka next. I try to alternate my running. Cause don’t wanna to bust my knees. Had a lot of knee pain previously but thanks to MCO and Covid, have been exercising regularly for the last 2 years and now dare to run again! |

QUOTE(biastee @ Oct 18 2022, 02:03 PM) They are mine. My left foot has a bunion when running and none while walking. I have changed the laces and put in some stuffing into the shoes, hopefully the fabric will loose up and i will experience less pain. I don’t wanna retort to cutting yet. Lol.This is a racing model & so, presumably has a narrow last / toebox. A slight bunion doesn't hurt while walking - hence, pain-free in the store. This is relatively low mileage. So, if the bunion is problematic at 3km, it will be excruciating at 30km! Yeah I am not planning to run marathon lo. I only do 30 minutes exercise per day, and 1 hour during weekends if possible. Lol! Today I will try to run again and see. This post has been edited by miyakochan89: Oct 18 2022, 02:28 PM |

Hey all, is it normal to become so hungry all the time after I started running??? Been running for a month, about 4 days per week.
I wanna lose weight and be toned ler. Not to be hungry all the time. Like usually I take toast for breakfast and it’s enough to last me the day, but within 3 hours, my tummy is making insane noises. This post has been edited by miyakochan89: Oct 20 2022, 11:07 AM |

QUOTE(GravityFi3ld @ Oct 20 2022, 11:28 AM) New Achievement Unlocked : Metabolism Booooost! exercising is damn good for sleep for sure.I run in the mornings and have breakfast (typical hawker / mamak fare) after the run - so i rarely get the kili-kulu tummy rumble But I do get it during the evenings before bed, after a quick round of HIIT - damn good for sleep QUOTE(ahjummma @ Oct 20 2022, 12:29 PM) i think it's normal to feel hungry after running. maybe have a banana before your run and settle for salad after. I will try to manage the calories intake and see lah..i am hungry even before my evening run. sometimes i just go for heavy meal, at least i don't feel so guilty after running. |

QUOTE(biastee @ Oct 22 2022, 01:35 PM) If the intent is to lose weight, then it is useful to examine the relationship between long-term weight gain and weekly mileage. Well i can now do 0 miles cause i am starting to fall sick. I get sick every single time i changed the type of my workout and up my intensity. I think it's due subconsciously switching to breathing via mouth entirely, which is very bad according to doctor cause there's no filter like the nose.Tracking the weight change of 120,000 persons over 20 years, the following relationship was found: "Women between the ages of 18 and 25 gained about two pounds annually if they ran less than 15 miles per week, 1.4 pounds annually if they ran 15 to 30 miles per week, and slightly more than three-quarters of a pound annually if they ran more than 30 miles per week." ![]() So i need to take 1 week break from any exercises. |

QUOTE(biastee @ Oct 23 2022, 01:58 PM) Swimmers & kayakers will surely laugh at blaming mouth breathing bcos they have no such hang-ups and even use nose clips (images below). Well got covided. So….![]() ![]() ![]() Mouth breathing for 1/2 hour is unlikely to be harmful. Maybe, a whole day Ironman or ultramarathon can dry up the mouth to cause caries. The advice from doctor who is unfamiliar with exercise science is likely coloured by superstition. A professor of exercise science summarized this bias: "When I began my clinical medical training in the early 1970s, I was reliably informed by my teachers that exercise was dangerous for human health. Since I seemed to feel far better the more I exercised, I concluded that my teachers could not be trusted."
