Bro, i understand your frustration. Imagine we run 4/5 times a week but then now we unable to. But try to think that on +ve side. Its for everyone benefit. Its for benefit of your family, frens or love ones. I already stop runnig 3 weeks already and what I can do is HIIT at home to maintain my stamina. Our COVID cases are increasing and our trend is much more like Italy 2 weeks back. Can you imagine our number in 2 weeks after this?

I live in apartment and by right I do not have any issue to run within our apartment area. But me and my runner frens here decided not to do our running routine as we want to play our role as caring citizen. Who know that among us are carrier, then after we jog we touch someone car or even the staircase railing or mebbe when we push the lift button or sweat stays there?

Its sad to see videos of people still wandering around seems like nothing is happening rite now. And some maybe threat this 14days as Cuti cuti Malaysia. Sigh  sweat.gif

Hope you see where i'm coming from bro. Stay safe ya

I have to do meal prep for 4 people 3 times a day. So I have no choice but to go out for groceries. Not everyone can afford to eat out or Grab like some bangsawan. With online deliveries fully booked, many people including me have to go out to get food. With many big shops not really minimising numbers, places like these are the worst transmission vectors. It's either starve or take the risk. Compared to going out to buy food/groceries running (solo) is so much safer

If you're not sick - maintaining Social Distancing is what everyone should be doing. If you're sick you definitely shouldn't be out. Irrespective of whether someone has touched your car/railing/stairway - you should not be touching your face and you should be washing your hands frequently.

Anyway - stay safe bro.

I anticipate the number will further increase in 2 weeks. Ironically, five days before Dr Ong was filmed arguing with the police, he went to the press to forewarn us that the authorities are not doing enough to contain the epidemic.

If the OP weren't a runner, is there any guarantee that he won't touch the stair railing or push the lift button when he goes up to his apartment? On the other hand, if the OP is aware that railings and lift buttons are full of microbes, he can religiously avoid touching them. In summary, touching railings & lift buttons have nothing to do with running, but a lack of hygiene knowledge.

Is there evidence that Covid-19 can be spread thru sweat?

I second your opinion that there is negligible risk of infection from solo running (or cycling). Runner's World has shared how US running groups are ably incorporating social distancing under their own authorities' movement control [article link] . Following the infamous video, Dr. Ong also has called for a more intelligent implementation of MCO [article link].

Hi Guys, as RMO continues, I'm planning to have treadmill or indoor cycle. Can anyone recommend which brand is good considering practicality, cost & reliability? I am more towards to treadmill since I prefer running rather than cycling, but it is a good option if it is cheaper to have. my budget is less than 1K.

If space constraint requires u to store the mill after use, you will want a model where the deck can be folded down to the belt level so that the mill can slip under the sofa, e.g ADSports AD520 or Columbus Fitness i101.

In term of reliability, generally, the higher the motor's horse power (HP), the less likely it will overheat during long sessions.

Of course, you should not expect the sub RM1k models to be as sturdily constructed as their commercial gym cousins.

If u already have a road bike, then, a trainer that clamps on to the rear wheel axle can be considered. This combination replicates real-world riding better than an indoor cycle.

For an indoor cycle, things to look for include a handlebar that permits a variety of positions and a comfortable saddle. A heavier flywheel will better replicate real cycling.

Out of curiosity, how fast do these treadmills go. I was doing intervals at 5’05 min/km before the MCO and was wondering what you get at the budget level.

In the <RM1k range, typically 12 - 14 km/h.

Thanks for your thought on that. yeah sure for that much budget, will not get the same quality and performance like equipments in the gym. but maybe it is enough to get my sweat out and stay fit during this RMO period.

Thanks for the info. Going from running 5-6 times a week to 0 has been really difficult for me. Now I'm really tempted by that top-end decathlon one because the lower end ones are only rated for 5 hours per week use.

However, I don't want to end up viral like that Penang doctor filmed arguing with the police in a park - there seems to be a lot of people who think that they can catch or spread Covid-19 just be looking at them and that's the frustrating part.  I know this is an unpopular opinion at this point in time but I just had to get it off my chest.
*
The Penang doctor was technically correct but in the current Malaysian climate of fear, he should've kept quiet and went home. Most or nearly all western countries under lockdown allow outdoor exercise with reasonable precautions - no group running etc. I think Spain is the exception.

If you're living in a GnG area, its easier to get a run in now and then. I keep my runs short and after sunset, normally don't see anyone except for a few cars and another runner.

Hi,

I think these are difficult times for runners, or people who enjoy jogging.

With a treadmill or bike at home, it may be better as some sanity can still be achieved 😁. Others have a loop around the house or big garden.

For the unlucky ones, reduced to skipping or jogging in the house.

For me, it is a 5km to 7km running in a 30m by 20m terrace 😔. Quad and ankles do feel sore due to the constant turning.

How are you guys doing?

Hi,

I managed to figure out how to minimize it......ankle aches and pressure.

When you reach the point of turning... come to "spot running" stop... then as you are running on the spot... turn slowly... either 90 degrees or which direction... then you continue the "forward running"...

However, you can run fast... ok for now, need to maintain the aerobic capacity and muscle strength. Forget about speed and form, just do this maintenance work 😅.

Garmin users.

I want to ask, if we use Garmin Coach, we have to run outside for training?

If I run treadmill, it doesnt consider/reflect to the Garmin coach?

Eg, if I train running using Nike apps, it still ticks tho, doesnt matter outdoor or indoor.

I think it still reflects when you use Garmin coach and run on treadmill. But I haven't tried it myself

It requires me to run outdoor to estimate my current pace sad.gif
Only then I can load to my watch.

Long time ago I tried garmin coach, it works for outdoor. Never tried indoor. If it’s that way, means we just manual key in at garmin apps?
