My budget is about 300-400 actually. My last pair was Newton which I bought from a forumner here (can't remember his name). I especially like the Newton shoes - very suitable for my style of running. I remember I stopped having shin splints after running in the Newtons. The price now is like wow omg lol. laugh.gif

lol shouldnt have any problems finding good shoes in that price range imo. What brand u went and look at midvalley and what kind of price they have for them?

Ya..i used fixed interval of 4min run/1min walk in my last HM. I start the interval from race start till 15km..then i try my best to run non stop till finish line..besides that i walk all uphill..
.
Galloway have recommended intervals according to your pace..check his videos..
.
Currently i using 2m run/1m walk for FM training..hope can finish in 7hrs to meet COT..
.
Good luck this weekend..pls share ur experience as i oso learning..
*
Hmm it said 60/30 is the recommended interval for FM based on my pace.

So in the interval timer you just set the work/rest intervals and put the sets on an absurdly high number?

lol dont really have a plan. just squeeze in a bit of run here and there.

nowadays usually have about 4-5 set of 3.5km runs per week during commute.

i ran about 4 HMs (3 hours ++) to date i and i oso joined a couple of 20km obstacle races.

usually just dive in lidat. now trying FM 1st time only a bit nervous and started to think of ways to prepare.

How bout u?

aisey..u already done 20k obstacle, then this FM is like cantonese say 'wet wet water'!

as for me, i still like to drink and smoke..so i just follow galloway run/walk trainiing plan,
two 30 min runs midweek and 1 long run in weekend.

my concern is the prescribed long runs of over 25km (27k, 30k, 37k & 42k),
i think i will keep the long runs to max 25k and add more distance in the midweek to compensate.

Yeah but obstacle races are not as stressful as time is less of an issue. A lot of waiting and resting while queuing for obstacles.

A friend of mine who join together in obstacle races tried his 1st FM and he finished in 8 hours plus.

He seems shaken and said he prolly wont do FM again anytime soon. That scared me a little lol.

I dont drink/smoke but when it comes to eating i barely held myself lol. loads of fast food too lol sweat.gif

Twincity the cut off time is 8 hours im sked i wont make it. Thats why i googled a bit and saw ppl say the best bet to survive is follow galloway walk/run method so i guess it's worth a try.

How many HM u joined ady? Stanchart the cut off time is even shorter just 7 hours. I didnt manage to register that one sold out dy cry.gif

Hard to imagine one can "ran" a 8 hours marathon. It's like leisure walking. Average pace around 11min20sec . sweat.gif
Normal fit ppl can do a 6 hours marathon easily.

yea i didnt ask him about the details. he probably stopped for injury or something.

is it a stretch to say that its possible complete a marathon under 8 hours if you just walk all the way?

On average one can walk 5~6km per hour.
So basically one can walk all the way and finished a marathon under 8 hours easily.

30sec just a reference value, you may adjust to which you are comfortable with,

for FM normally they provide power gel at certain water station mostly located after 25km onward along with banana .
but better don't rely on them as through out the race you still need to refuel so better prepare some gel along with you and consume it before even you start feeling gg also if you prompt to get cramp at certain distance then do go purchase some salt stick to replenish your mineral level in your body.

I see. Great advice, thanks!

This is the first time i heard about salt sticks. It sounds like they give similar benefit to isotonic drinks issit?
