Ecclestone presses Australia for night GP
Opposition already rising

QUOTE
Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone has warned the Australian Grand Prix will be moved overseas unless the race is held at night in a move designed to boost global TV ratings, reports said Sunday.

Melbourne's contract to host the Australian GP expires in 2010 but Ecclestone is pressing organisers to stage the race around the Albert Park street circuit under lights.

Earlier this month Singapore clinched a five-year contract to host a race from next year with Ecclestone saying he was confident safety issues would be resolved to allow night-racing.

The Malaysian Grand Prix is also set to be held under lights under the terms of an imminent new contract.

But the issue of night racing is not so cut and dried in Australia, reports said.

"When the contract comes up, we have to have a look and see exactly what we will be doing with Melbourne," Ecclestone told Melbourne's Sunday Herald Sun newspaper.

"Unless they (organisers) can come up with something satisfactory, I'm pretty sure we wouldn't be able to continue there. I would like to make sure we can watch (the race) in Europe and other parts of the world at a respectable time rather than having to get up at three or four in the morning."

But the newspaper says that Australian event organisers do not see a night race as a priority.

"I don't think it is going to happen," one insider told the newspaper. "To have F1 cars hooning (roaring) around Albert Park at 9:00 pm won't go down well with the locals and it's a family event, so afternoon is obviously the ideal time."

At the time of the last Australian GP in March Australian Grand Prix Corporation chairman Ron Walker insisted Ecclestone was not delivering Australian race organisers with an ultimatum on night racing.

"I am not saying for a minute it is going to happen but you have got to consider all things to improve the sport," Walker told reporters.

Walker said there was much work to be done before any decision was taken, including conducting a feasibility study to determine whether the circuit could be sufficiently lit to safely hold a F1 race.

The Australian GP has been hemorrhaging financially since it was shifted from Adelaide in 1996, with one economist estimating the race would lose more than 230 million dollars (190 million US) by the time the current contract expires in 2010.

Ecclestone told the newspaper Walker was aware of his demands for a new contract.

"Ron is not stupid and he knows exactly what is at stake," he said. "It seems that Melbourne tried to get behind F1 and always has done, but the rest of Australia doesn't seem to get behind it."

Reports said the Australian race's television audience around the world has fallen from 339 million in 1999 to 82 million.

The Victorian state government, which financially underpins the GP in Melbourne, said no negotiations on switching to a night race were underway.

"The contract runs until 2010, but we haven't begun negotiating that yet," a spokesman for Tourism Minister Tim Holding told the newspaper. "And a night Grand Prix has never been formally proposed. Ultimately, the Victorian government will decide what is best for Melbourne."

Because he retired from the Spanish GP with an "electrical failure". the reason I put "electrical" is that no matter what the cause of a car failure, mostly the engine, it will either be "electrical" or "Hydraulics". I forgot where, but I've read a site where they compiled F1 car failures from the late 80's till the latest season, and also the reason of retirement. and from that, only 1% was due to "engine failure". "Hydraulics" was top with 35% while "electric" was second with 30%.

yeah.... F1 is the mother and the pinnacle of motorsport ! although nowadays they are 1 sec slower than 2 years ago, but i dont want them to be slower anymore. that's why i dont like the new engine proposal, it's just too slow...

manufacturers are not afraid of engine failures, it's dumbass max that wants to "cut down the cost" ! he doesnt seems to pay attention to the survey they themselves did 1 or 2 years ago. Screw the small teams, cant afford don join F1, go join lower categories.

pity those Aussies, now they're like in a do or die situation. this 2 old geezer need to go, they should have been staying in a coffin ! not drag F1 into the coffin with them.
sorry guys i guess i rant too much today laugh.gif

then will the cars have rear & front lights ?
maybe signal lights as well ?
how many spot lights will be needed to light up a track ?

bernie & max are really trouble makers, say want to save costs, actually they are making F1 worst than ever

Hamilton ready to continue strong performance in Monaco

QUOTE
Lewis Hamilton is looking forward to the Monaco Grand Prix. The British McLaren driver has admitted he always dreamed of racing through the streets of Monte Carlo in a Formula 1 car. This weekend he can clinch his third win in three years of racing.

In 2006 Lewis Hamilton won the Monaco Grand Prix in the GP2 Series, and in 2005 he won the race in the narrows streets in the F3 Euroseries. Hamilton hopes he can continue this line of victories on Sunday.

Speaking about the upcoming Monaco Grand Prix he said: "I am really looking forward to Monaco. It is one of the tracks I have always dreamed of racing at in Formula 1, particularly having competed there for the past two seasons in the F3 Euroseries and GP2."

As exciting as he is he furthermore said: "For me it is the best circuit of the year, there is nowhere like it for getting the adrenaline going, because the track is so tight and there are no run-off areas, you have to be incredibly precise, there is no room for error and as a driver that makes it all the more exciting. I have always run well at Monaco, having won there on my previous two visits to the race. I am going to the race again this year with the intention of fighting for the win, but that is the case at everything I compete in. However we do have to keep being realistic, this will be my fifth race in Formula 1 and I am still developing. We have to focus on keeping scoring points for both the Constructors' and Drivers' Championships and take it step by step."

This young lad is going to be flying in Monaco next, from the article, it was suggested that Hamilton has both skills and the enough experience needed to secure a win in Monaco...

dun 4get these:
wiper - rain n exhaust particle from car in front
mud guard - less water spray sky hi(safety maa)
horn(typo?) - alonso can never complain bout traffic
airbag biggrin.gif
cd player - so that kimi will never feel sleepy while leading the race(au gp)
now we got ourselves a new safety car rclxms.gif

anyway, bout the limitation blablabla, frankly saying i dun mind they threw 2 cylinders away from the engine block n reduce the displacement to 2.4L
y?cos the engine can rev much higher...upto 22k rpm, n the sound it makes...umphhh cool.gif

but reducing the max rpm to 10k... shocking.gif now f1's gonna sound like a GT car
isn't the noice 1 of the unique factors of f1 that no other motorsport got?
if that is 2 b taken out, i won't b surprise that we'll hv more coming 2 sepang 2 watch motoGP, JGTC, petronas sprinta blablabla than f1 whistling.gif

they did the right thing by bringing back the 'real' pitstop n new qualifying 4mat(although it's most likely viewers' vote)...really appreciate that.y can't they jz keep doing the 'rite' thing?turning f1 car into eco-friendly vehicle...heck we're not racing in a forest, n we're running on methane, not diesel or coal doh.gif

sorry 4 my essay...long time no drop by wink.gif

Interesting to see.
He liked Sakhir too and got 2nd.

If he got 2nd again in Monaco than it's because of the pace of Massa's Ferrari...like in Sakhir.

I think Hamilton can win this weekend.
Surely a huge tonne of pressure for his team mate rolleyes.gif

He is already getting respons that is "over-d-edge". I mean for a rookie driver in F1, who would have thought this young lad will lead the driver ranking atm.. None! So he is already creating a hype out here...

I think he deserved it.
When you're talented and got a potential car + getting result...hard to be off the focus by the media.

From the betting sites, it seems that Massa has the highest chance to win.

Erm.. does that means that he has the highest chance of failing behind in Monaco? I mean if Massa truly wins, the betting sites will go bankrupt right tongue.gif
