my opinion on using both after some time is as below:
You forgot a few things:
7. TP-Link non-existant tech support unless you live in the US
8. TP-Link poor firmware updates. Yes you can't use the original AC68U firmware but Merlin update his firmware frequently. You can forget about TP-Link fixing any security loophole or any bug fixing
9. TP-Link region based firmwares. Whereas ASUS router's firmware is for global use. One-for-all
10. TP-Link constant move to a new hardware version and forget about the old hardware version. You can't use V5 firmware on V4

You can fix the heat by attaching an RM10 laptop cooler
And I don't really care about the power consumption as it's just 10Watts

Even if its a tmobile ac1900, its still an Asus. I prefer to use Asus all because of the firmware.

U worried to much about heat. It was designed to handle it. My ac68u(non tmobile) runs at 82’C for almost 3 years now haha still kick ass.

Four conditions:
1. I don't do firmware flashing from T-Mobile firmware to Merlin, you'll have to do it yourself
2. I'm not doing it for free
3. Full upfront payment - RM350
4. If item got stuck in customs & requires SIRIM clearance (it's a possibility), consider your money burnt. No refund will be given

Is there a significant difference of AC coverage of RT-AC68U vs WS880 (on merlin) ? That big?

I dont think it makes any difference. But u can install another 5ghz AP via powerline or cable. Avoid wireless repeater.

No. It's exactly the same
The reason why people go for RT-AC68U is because of the continuos firmware update by Merlin whereas Vortex has stopped the firmware updates for WS880

oh, i only list those i feel important to me. those i don't list
Good luck with that
If someone managed to find a backdoor / security hole to the V4 and TP-Link refuses to provide firmware update (yes, they are well known for that) to fix the backdoor, you'll be left with nothing but a useless paperweight

Constant firmware updates is very important
Those firmware updates is not just for adding additional features, they also fix bugs and vulnerabilities I've mentioned earlier
Maybe there are none now, but soon there will be. There are always hackers out there be it good hackers or bad hackers
