Maybe dropping by to KLCC with 2 visitors from Canada this afternoon. However they're not into HT.

One of them said he installed a new HDTV last month at home in Waterloo Canada but noticed no diff. to normal TV  shocking.gif  doh.gif shakehead.gif cry.gif

Want to take up the challenge to show them the difference?  hmm.gif

a hd source feeded into a non hd TV = no diff

a non HD source feeded into a HD tv = a lil diff only.

correct me if wrong.

It depends on how you do it... but HD source into a non HD definitely no difference.

But if you use upscaling... example normal DVD use HDMI DVD player, you will get upscaled quality.

Another one is, analog signals and digital signals will have difference in quality as well. Analog signals will get all the noise especially if you screen is big, you will see the difference. Also, if your analog cable is long... Where as for digital, all the way is silky smooth.

It all depends on the players and the source video.

Mediaplex should really dump their SNAZZIOs. They are really bad for playing SD material even upscaling.

Unless we hve a lot of money to spare... currently, 720p is more than enough...
Astro <-- 480p
DVD <-- 480p but luckily, can upscale to 720p...

So... unless HD Astro comes in and HD DVD and BR disc got ahem ahem... no point going so far until 1080p...

UNLESSS tongue.gif.... UNLESS tongue.gif panny offer me at low low price tongue.gif

astro ? 480p , u will never get 480 p with s video

u re right, the best upscale still cannot compare to hd source.
Now only download bluray remux materials fr internet , play thru tvix hd .
Blu ray disc still expensive and limited.

actually true 480p material is quite decent when upscale to 720p TVs

it's just that DVD's are not "true" 480p material.. they are 640x480 stretched to 720x480 (for anamorphic NTSC dvds) and further stretched to 16:9 to fit your TV..so it's not really actual 854x480p which is a EDTV resolution.

just my casual observation..

Upscaling does wonders to 480 material for sure, don't be discouraged by technicalities, see for yourself.

Nothing much to report on the Home Theatre projector front. The TW700 is performing very well, nothing that I would like to complain about. The projector is used abour 2-3 hours every other day, a bit more on the weekends. I have received another draft design for my Home Theatre, it is simple and elegant but still needs some work. Started talking pricing with the contractor and shocking.gif they are trying to cut my throat.

Went to watch Spider-Man yesterday at the cinema and it was.... bleah. GO watch it and form your own opinion.

Hmmnn,

I liked Spidey3 with all its gimmicks and short character buildup(just imagine so many evil villians squeezed in a 2 odd hr movie...

Oso had some free time and popped in my avia and did some vdo calibrations and surprise surprise de factory settings are pretty spot on where basic vdo settings are concerned - didnt have to change anything(well at least I didnt see any improvement so decided to leave it as is...)
Did notice my elcheapo makeshift screen had hotspotting thou at de ctr of screen(is there any other place that tis is suppose to happen) mainly during de all white balance setting pages... thou have to be fair and tat it is not so noticeable during a movie...

Hmmnn now to find de time and de energy to try out de tweakked settings from AVS...

I thought Spidey3 is going the same way as the previous Batman franchise.... just trying too hard. The Batman Begins was a welcome "back to basics" that I thought Spidey 3 should have at least learned from. By the way, in the comics, Venom was one of the toughest opponents spidey ever had to face, but in the movie I though he was pretty easy to kill.

I am having no luck in getting my Avia DVD. Bought one thru ebay and it never arrived... someone in Pos Malaysia must be using it to calibrate his system. Luckily the seller reimbursed me. Now I am shopping around for another one.

If the hot spotting is not bothering you then just leave it. Hotspots usually occur at the center of the screen, but it may happen at other areas if the screen is not flat.

Note that the tweaked settings in AVS are specific for a screen and setup, so it may not have the desired effects since you have a different screen.

Hi,

Well, whatever is behind de scenes in Spidey3 , I thoroughly enjoyed it - maybe its years of growing up wif Marvel comics ...hehehe ... Iron Man coming up soon oso.... yay

No de hotspotting dont bother me (I am very easy to pls...hehehe) and since my screen is a flat board I dont think it is becos it isnt flat but more of de coating/paint material which might not be 100% suitable as a screen... oh well you get what you pay for, I guess (I just found out dat 110inch 16:9 fixed screen cost sumthing like RM2k in Sg, over here should be more...)

On de tweaks when/if I have de time Ill try it out and see - cos to me you can always reset it back to factory specs if I dont like it (de beauty of having it in your home, I guess) but to be fair at this point in time I dunt have much to complain where de images are concerned...

Venom isn't dead, Eddie is

the symbiote continues to be a parasite, and will later spawn other symbiotes- Carnage, shriek, etc.

Carnage is the stronger than Spidey and Venom combines, and in Ultimate Carnage, venom and spider-man had to join forces.

Brader... I need help.

Panny just called up and told me that they will give credit note to the dealer and ask me what I want to buy. As in what other projector I want buy.
Including other brand as they know other than AE1000, there is not much of choice.

Hmmm...

So, now, most probably I'd tell him, I want TW700. Can I know what price you bought?
