QUOTE(Jack28HT @ Apr 23 2007, 04:02 PM) Hi guys, it's my first post in LYN and hope to find some help. Hv used my panny AE300 for >3 years and logged >2.5K hours and bulb is dim. It's still OK 'cos it's in full light controlled room but what troubles me lately is the CRT pj like "burnt-in" problem, e.g. after watching 4:3 or 2.35:1 movie and back to 1.78:1 movie, I would get "burnt-in" effect of seeing the previous AR "box" appearing in dimmer light ouput. However it will recover after a movie or 2 in the same AR. Anyone knows what's the problem? Aged bulb or aged LCD panel? I have the exact same problem as yours. My panny AE200 "burnt-in" after 1000 hours of usage. It is getting more difficult to recover now. Sometimes, the projector has to be rested for a day to get back uniform light output for 1.78:1 movie. Is it time to upgrade? Have tried to find excuses to upgrade (getting the CFO's approval). It was due to the aged LCD panel. The aging problem of organic material in the LCD panel is the biggest weakness of LCD projector. The latest LCD panels which are equipped on AE1000 and HC5000 are using inorganic material. Epson claimed that the new LCD panel has no more aging problem. There is the only reason which is holding me back to upgrade to another LDC projector like TW700. |

Actually Panny Ax1c(or 100) is circa 6k, de 1080p Ae1k(1000) is rrp'ed at 15k - street pricing may be cheaper...

To Jack28HT and peace228,
Wow, Home Theatre Projector veterans here.... an AE200 and an AE300 owner. Welcome to the discussion. I believe that your projectors have served you well...2.5k hours is very impressive indeed. But 3 years or more has passed and the world of projectors have improved 10 fold since. If funds are not an issue, then I would advice that you go straight for a 1080p projector. Full HD is right around the corner and if I were to purchase one today, I would go for 1080p... prolly the JVC RS1 I have the Epson TW700 which I bought more than 2 months ago. Seems like ages ago now. Currently clocked over 50 hours with no major complains. Picture is sharp as a needle, enough lumens to view in the afternoon with bright sunlight filtering in from the outside. Colours so amazing that it pops out of the screen... or wall in my case. With Blacks unheard of for LCD at this price. The Epson TW700 uses the D5 organic LCD panel, but there has not been any report of burn in on this panel. Incidently Panny also uses the same panel but it has encountered many problems compared to the Epson. This is probably due to an inherent design flaw with the Panny. The only gripe I have with my Epson TW700 is that its a 720p projector and as such SDE is visible but only when I go looking for it. However if the movie is exciting and I am fully immersed in the storyline, I dun notice it at all. |

I think they wanna fix it again but I knowthey have no slution to it. So... I am back to 29" ASTRO for now. |

I am eyeing on 720P DLP projector now as my next upgrade. |

Hi,
De introduction of Hd dvdp and BR(de other is HD cable sources) are one of de reasons dat de 1080p Pjs are getting so much airplay but of cos in de US and de richer countries ... here in Mal I think for this format to gain a following will take sum time and for HD TV - well if monopoly just to Astro I dunt think tis will happen anytime soon... Anyway 720p is fine for me and for a few forummers here too ... at least we will be enjoying de big screen until sumthing else comes along in say 4/5 years time... Cheers Dirtrun |

Thanks Jason.
RS1 or HD1 is on my wish list only.. hoping for much better price includiing the source (waiting to build a powerful HTPC with "Quad Core" CPU) and also the AVR with HDMI 1.3 switching support and true HD audio decoding. But this will be at least another 2 years time. Maybe I should do research only for the time being... Sorry for the mistake on AX1K as I read Tim's message of AX1000 for RM6K. Maybe I dream too much on this.. peace228, mind to share your experience why you're looking at DLP instead of the AX100 or TW700 ? Is it the organic panel aging reason? dirtrun, yaloh, someone should end this Astro monopoly thing soon, otherwise we'll never see the light of HDTV here... eventhough their Measat 3 launched recently is capable of delivering it. |

I don't wan't to see an RS1 while I enjoy the current soon to be setup. You know that feeling when you feel yours is the best, but then another company launches one that is far superior to yours...
