Staying with the AE300 also makes sense, especially since the dust on HD not yet settle. I also want to go HTPC route and wiring the whole house up. Still compiling data and researching now. No rush on this front.

Unless we hve a lot of money to spare... currently, 720p is more than enough...
Astro <-- 480p
DVD <-- 480p but luckily, can upscale to 720p...

So... unless HD Astro comes in and HD DVD and BR disc got ahem ahem... no point going so far until 1080p...

Gennum processor can upscale Composite to 480p while S-Video, Component, and HDMI get upscaled to 1080p

Anyone up for a demo at my house or Mediaplex once everythings settled? laugh.gif

Would be fun to see Astro in 1080p. as well as my large LD and VHS collection in Full HD as well. laugh.gif

Yes, psp_Boy, pls count me in as soon as you're ready rclxms.gif . I assume you stay around KL right? (Good, just saw that you're from Bukit Damansara).

Actually I'm also interested to take a look at Mediaplex as well. How to go about it? When is a good time to catch you there?

Also KLIAV SHOW will be on end of July. Any news on what will be shown there? I didn't go last year because it didn't have much on HD AV, except lots of LCD/Plasma TV, I think. Anyone planning to go this year?

dirtrun, yaloh, someone should end this Astro monopoly thing soon, otherwise we'll never see the light of HDTV here... eventhough their Measat 3 launched recently is capable of delivering it.  mad.gif  . Already envy seeing our neighbor country enjoying it and discuss over their forum long time already.. where is Malaysia Boleh???

I would go tat route as de HD wars need to settle down first and unless u buy oris only software would be prohibitive especially in RM... use de ae300 until it konks lo - 720p is best for those who are just starting - I dont see de point to upgrade from 480i/p to this - not much of a gain, really...

Monopolys are de way of life in la la land so I guess it all depends on de Pak Lah administration - how much pressure they can put on Sir Ananda - but I wouldnt be holding my breath .... hehehe

Oooh how I wish I was nearer ... so can go check out Psp's setup ---- wait no I dunt think so ... I dunt need more upgraditis liao ... hahahaha

I'm up for it. I definitely want to see Astro, etc in 1080p.

Planning my next steps for a HT, been dreaming about it for many years but I think it will finally materialise this year (or maybe next). Right now, I'm leaning towards a projector setup (as opposed to LCD/plasma TV).

Maybe dropping by to KLCC with 2 visitors from Canada this afternoon. However they're not into HT.

One of them said he installed a new HDTV last month at home in Waterloo Canada but noticed no diff. to normal TV shocking.gif doh.gif shakehead.gif cry.gif
