Just wanted to mention for 10mbps and above you'd probably want to change your router: http://www.blacktubi.com/unifi-router/
I did it today, got a simple Asus RT-N12HP, just using the router part, WiFi is through bridged Apple Airport Express. Enjoying the smoothness and speed so far, especially if you use something like OpenDNS for DNS. Even better if you have a 802.11ac 5ghz router and device throughout your home, then you don't even need to bother with 2.4ghz, and similarly just use the Unifi box for the optical-ethernet conversion and use quality gear from that point outwards. PS. SUGGESTED TO TURN OFF ALL YOUR WIRELESS DEVICES AT NIGHT FOR A GOOD NIGHT'S SLEEP! PPS. TURN YOUR WIFI ROUTER POWER TO TRANSMIT LEAST AMOUNT NEEDED FOR COVERAGE! QUOTE(mztang52 @ Jun 30 2016, 10:05 PM) QUOTE(soonwai @ Jun 30 2016, 10:13 PM) Apologies for confusing you. Thanks Both ways also can. The one with fewer steps is: Service/DHCP Only 1. Use "Set Manually" and key-in your custom DNS servers here, router will give out those DNS to your PCs and phones. (so your PCs should get 8.8.8.8 for DNS server) ![]() That's it. ----- Service/DNS Server is only used when Service/DHCP is set to "Use DNS Relay". I follow the service/DHCP method |

Anyone on ipv6 free to test out something for me? Go to:
http://[2001:e68:5428:7eab:5405:cf8:8b5a:4026]:8082 That's my iPhone camera. Just want to test if it can be accessed directly using ipv6. You should see a CD and a red cable and a piece of tissue fluttering in the wind. 6:18pm: Camera offline for now. Going out for dinner. This post has been edited by soonwai: Jul 1 2016, 06:19 PM |

QUOTE(jpong1 @ Jul 1 2016, 06:18 PM) Thanks very much. Go makan first, later come back and play some more with ipv6.To Everyone Who Has IPv6 enabled This also highlights one of the dangers of ipv6. That, all your devices are directly addressable from the internet. Whether it's actually reachable will depend on the firewall in the router. |

( that's the thing i like ) although it has no antenna at all ( exterior ). Using 2.4Ghz |

QUOTE(plumberly @ Jul 1 2016, 01:53 PM) For the rookies in Unifi, I am sure that some of us would like to get more out of the installed setup, to get higher speed, better stability, add more features, wider coverage, etc. For those with tips to share, please send it in this format:I would like to compile the inputs from those who have fine tuned this and that to get the extra miles out of Unifi. Subjects can include speed (download, upload), IPV4 vs IPV6, firewall, security, wireless, network, shareport, port forwarding, static/dynamic, etc., etc. Basically, what you have done and the results. I will compile the tips in a doc and then share it here. Many thanks. AA What is gain/improvement? BB What and how was it done? This will make my compilation a lot easier. Thanks. |
