was chatting a lot in FFXV topic about all kinds of RPG (on playstation i guess). made a new topic here so doesnt kacau too much that one. dunno if it will pick up but yeah. hahah. anyways.

feel free to chat here about RPG. for me favourite RPG's of all time

1. WILD ARMS (only the first one) - i think i played it like 6 times from start to finish. the only game ive played where after 1 hour it shows the game credits. first time i played i was like WTF and then turned off the game. heheh. played a month later after a friend mentioned theres more hahahah.
2. Suikoden (ALLLLLLLLLLLLL of them. nothing like a good turn based RPG with large scale war battles, build own castles, build army of 108 characters, gambling, plot twists, gambling, etc... so damn gooding. Y U NO MAKE NEW ONE!?!!) - the only game that actually made me cry...
2. Final Fantasy VII - of cos.
3. Final Fantasy X & X-2 - great story and battle systems for both. the dress thing was weird, in the end just used 1-2 dresses till max level and can finish the game. ahhh love rikku.

For me some of the best RPG game I've ever played

Chrono Trigger - the story line, the music, everything is just too good.
Chrono Cross - that back story of the main character. and my favorite character, lynx & harle. They somehow remind me of joker and harley quinn.
Xenogears - superb fighting combo, awesome gears , and most OP fella, I.D.

For me, Suikoden first 3 series is the best, then it get too complicated I guess?

i had always been faithful to FF series, and also Chrono Cross & Trigger.

VII - one of my fave, currently replaying all over again, slightly past the death of someone and doing 255 max vitality for all characters.

X - like the combat style and the flexibility it offers. I still haven't conquer them dark aeons and penance though... and that lightning dodging...

Chrono Cross - my 1st RPG. I like everything that it has to offer and the story is good.

ah yeah chrono trigger was awesome. i didnt finish cross though. maybe should revisit to try. xenogears i didnt get to finish cause friend marah and take his game back even though he finished and not playing why so selfish dont let me borrow for more that 1 week i dunno!!

dunno how complicated it was.. such a long time agoo...

now playing trails in the sky. still havent finished 2nd chapter. need to get on that..

star ocean till the end of time is one of the best rpg back in ps2 era
it's among the same line with wild arms and chrono cross

i like how you still dont share spoilers hahahah. dont wanna ruin it for the next generation of FFVII players.

for X, i forgot which summon i got, like the sisters or something. with that i owned the game. they were dealing crazy damage yo.

hmm really should revisit chrono cross. seems you all think quite highly of it. i guess same way i look at suikoden and wild arms hehe.

my most hated RPG is Beyond the Beyond. i mean it was ok, story was good. but so many damn encounters. and one of the mains i forgot his name is supposed to be super strong but loses his powers. then when you get the powers back... hes still about the same as my main character!!!!!! damn them! ahhaha

FF6. Best villain - Kefka. Best storyline and cast. Best FF ever.

Chrono Trigger - At that age and time, having a time travelling game with multiple possible ending just blew my mind apart.

Earthbound - Little cute graphics but the game is so much deep and parallel real life. You dont earn money straightaway after defeating nemies but rather call your dad to tell you stories (he's a writer and this also serves as save function) and then your dad will deposit money into your bank account which you have to withdraw using ATM machines. Weapons are yoyos, frying pans and baseball bats. I LOVE IT SO MUCH!

Suikoden - Gotta catch em all.

Fire Emblem - Waifu/Husbando Simulator.

if i would get a chance to play both xenogears and CC again, i will definitely replay them. they were made to grind and all, unlike nowadays games .

CC is worth because the story is really epic and quite complicated in a good way, you were expecting something then BOOM, you were shown another meaning behind the story.

this game make me have two crush on both the good and bad heroine. haha

There was once a Gundam jrpg game, Ms Saga. It certainly wasn't my favourite, nevertheless it was one of one I enjoyed most.

my favourite old classic JRPG:

FF8 - my first FF, maybe mostly about nostalgia, but it isn't half-bad at all

FF9 - the one that I considered true to the "Final Fantasy" name. Everything in it is fantasy - character design, the world & the storyline

Legend of the Dragoon - what can I say - it is just a great game - great character development, superb storyline. If there's one JRPG series that needs to be revive, this is the game

of course Ni No Kuni, duh~

My personal 3 favourite:

1. Chrono Trigger : I like the battle system and its multiple ending. The only game where I actually played multiple times trying to get the endings. I like the NDS version better than SNES one though.

2. Lufia 2 : A SNES game but its story are great although too long for me . It have unique battle system that have range of magic and you actually need to think whether to buy equipment that give better stats or the one that had more useful skills. Its puzzle are also got range from "thats easy " to " WTF "

3. Tales of the Xillia : The story is like most Tales game cough*saving the world*cough with several plot twist but I like the dual link skills (in this case "arte"). Every character feels different than the other which improve the gameplay albeit all tales games is like that. Also like Tales of Xillia 2.

Chrono Trigger - Best RPG ever. Great story, great soundtrack, great battle system.

Final Fantasy VI - You can outrun and suplex a train.

Terranigma - Excellent story and gameplay. You play as a god who aids in the creation of the world and evolution, defeat all the evils and help humans advance. It has a really touching story and ending.

E.V.O. Search for Eden - IIRC you're a messenger of Gaia and sent to help animals evolve. The mechanics are really interesting because you can freely evolve different parts of your body to any animal's part that's available during that time period.

Super Robot Taisen - Gundams, Getter, Mazinger and your favorite mecha series all in one game. It has the best attack animations in any SRPG ever.

never heard of this earthbound game. but sounds pretty weird. hahahah. i guess like the FFXV demo using the toy hammer as a weapon cause its a kid hahah.


yeah i was trying to explain the concept of leveling up/grinding while playing Ni No Kuni, and she was just like what? can we just put it to easy mode arrrgghhhh.

never played gundam games at all actually. can also put new RPG, but seems there arent many out there. except for those action type like fallout and stuff. seems we all here are old fogies living up the good old days hahaha.

FF8 was the first gun/blade FF right? i never finished that, i remember i stopped for 2 months and then forgot where i was going... one thing i like about new RPG is got a journal hahah. FF9 i really like the cute magic dude.

played lufia long long time ago. man. i feel older and older...

for those not yet in the know.

oh god talk about tales.

First Tales of Destiny, the talking sword and element,

then tales of Eternia, one of the game that I actually get to a lot of secret hideout without the knowledge on google. good old times, upgrading submarine into a flying ship, fighting the Valkyrie and unlocking some secret technique.

Let me give my favorite RPG of all time:

1. Baldurs Gate 2: Shadow of arms (including the xpac throne of bhaal): for me amazing top down rpg game with quite deep mechanic and story.

2. Icewind Dale 2: Again same as above, i'm a bit sucker for top down RPG.

3. Shin Megami Series especialy on PS2 like Nocturne, Digital devil saga, persona and devil summoner.

4. FF8: actually my first FF series which i like a lot.

5. Tales of the abyss: love this one, not to mention tales of worlds

6: Suikoden 4 & 5: good gem from ps2 era

7. Shadows hearts on ps2 also.

8. Dark cloud/chronicles or rogue galaxies.


*there might be some i totally forgotten and never got chance to finish like *cough* FF7 *cough* or like older suikoden or shadow hearts.

hahahahah. lol. sounds like a pretty messed up game. raising alien babies and what not kekeke. man that high pitch 8bit type sound is crazy. how did we used to sit through hours with that playing.

i never got into the tales series. not sure why. will consider a revisit after chrono cross.

balders gate i think was the first top down action RPG that i finished. good stuff. now the only top down i play is helldivers. also gooding! but not an RPG by any means...

shin megami was good! forgot about that. used to play with my bro. just sit and starrrrreee.

lol cuz I learn enough from various site that you don't share spoilers, no matter how obvious it is HAHAHAHAHA

magus sisters? yeah they do deal high dosage of damage, but they are uncontrollable in the sense you can't pick what they use! I prefer using Anima for consistent damage, and Yojimbo IF you raise the stats and relationship properly. Other that that, Tidus and Wakka's overdrive + ultimate weapon is good enough for most enemies.

chrono cross was fun, so many characters and combo to play around with, and they each have their own personality. I really wish if a remake could be done, though... it isn't really likely.

beyond the beyond is something new! haven't heard of it but i don't think I wanna try that cuz I really hate random encounters. I prefer known encounters rather than random, random is just... tiring ahaha

ff8! love it too, but it falls short a bit in terms of junctioning magic to your stats, to raise it to max stats naturally without junction is plain crazy. I like the GF teaching system, very awesome, and Triple Triad!!!

ff9 I always stop at Disc 4. The game is nice, but just somehow not enough pulling factor. The one FF i replay multiple times but never finish it. LOL

nah haha. those days i just go from point A to B. play purely for the story. i think thats why i didnt finish FFXII, got sidetracked with quests and then got bored

i got child of light on my ps3 but havent finished it because got sidetracked with watchdogs. a pretty good game. side scrolling and very pretty. i think i put in like 3-5 hours only.

My very 1st proper RPG is on PC : Eyes of the Beholder
then tonnes of other great western RPGs like Ultima series, Lands of Lore & etc

1st RPG on console is FF3, never complete the game as the final boss are unbeatable (didn't know you need to defeat the 4 mini-boss first until many many years later )

Then on MD, hooked on Phantasy Stars 2, 3 and so on
(Weapon duplicate FTW!)

SNES, truly hooked on FF6, my all time fav JRPG
That time we hav Jap version only, non of us can read Jap, but somehow we still kinda understand the storyline and managed to complete it

then on PS, FF7 for me it's ok only, didn't understand what's the hype with it
but love the FFX on PS2, FFX-2 is kinda weird for me, didn't finish it

But my fav JRPG on PS2 is still DQ8
Great graphic, fun story, great gameplay, and fantastic system

Then the horror of FF13 on PS3
After that, most of the JRPG are kinda going down hill

Was sticking to western sandbox RPGs like Fallout for quite a while, and once a while picking up the classic JRPGs like older FFs, Suikoden, and DQ series on my NDS/3DS and PSV handheld

Now the only JRPG I'm looking forward to is DQ8 re-release on 3DS, and the DQ11 on PS4

ff6 - my 1st ever rpg, this also dragged me into the games world till now.
legend of mana 3 - 1st action rpg i have played.
chrono trigger - who would have missed this if you are a rpg guy.
ff7 - introduced me into the 3d world
xeno gear - because it looked the same as ff7 series
ff8 - because it was ff series
ff9 - because it was ff series
ff10 - because it was ff series and in new ps2
ff12 - because it was ff series
dragon quest 8 - long time didnt have the fairy tale rpg feeling, and this game touched me so much , and i can fly around the world with their 'bird'
ff13 - because it was ff series and in new ps3, this was also where i could hit the giant turtle into the sky and keep hitting
ff14 - because it was ff series and 1st time ever able to play online
skyrim - 1st time playing western rpg, was shocked on how big and open world it had, so enjoyable.
demon souls - thought it was big open world but.....
wild hunt - saw the demo trailer, looked the similar to skyrim, bought it and...... the best rpg i have played

the rpgs that looking forward to play:

horizon zerodawn - looks nice and big open world
ninokuni - i like fairy tale rpg and can fly around the world
i am Setsuna - i like fairy tale rpg and can fly around the world
ff15 - because it is ff series
cyberpunk - because it is from the developer of cdpr
the new middle earth series - great battle system and i like the lord of the rings world
the new elder scroll series - like it since skyrim
the new witcher series - if it ever happens

OMG, how could I ever forget about Dragon Quest 8? Just the artwork by Toriyama-sensei got many interested to play that game

if Sony ever brought this to PS4 (via their PS2 games on PS4 program), I would instantly buy it, if it got trophies la, hehe~

PSP Brave Story is one the great RPG !

the first rpg game that i played was chrono trigger...still remember the intro, frog and magus theme till now...

other games worth to mention:

-terranigma(snes)- the world map music was awesome (gives those nostalgic feeling)
-legend of mana (ps1) -kinda confused with the story line at the beginning, but the battle system rocks

-wild arms 3(ps2)- less complicated compared to wild arms 2.cowgirl heroine.what's more to ask?

-shadow hearts 2(ps2)- one of the best rpg for me. swallowed my thumb while trying to score for critical hits though

resonance of fate (ps3)-for some reason, i remember this game more than ff12. raisins anyone?

still, the game that i think i enjoyed the most are FRONT MISSION series. (3,4,5....minus evolved series)..these are all time favorite rpg games for me

I'm replaying Chrono Trigger and Earthbound on my phone using SNES emulator. The music is as good as ever. There are a few RPG that I remember back in Playstation One days like:
Vagrant Story
Valkyrie Profile
Parasite Eve
Digimon World

Thinking back, there are tons of great JRPGs on PS1 and PS2. Not so much for PS3. We'll see how it goes for PS4.

Fuyoh! I sense many old school Gamers here as well on this thread. I don't have any particular favorites coz I like em all but the following were memorable to me :

1. Pool of Radiance / Curse of the Azure Bonds / Death Knight of Krynn (basically the Gold / Dragonlance box series.

2. Ultima IV / V / VI / Underworld - underworld was noted as one of the first if not the first FPS action-rpg of its time.

3. Might & Magic III / VI - pure classics

4. Wasteland - one of the first that has a similar New Game + feature.

5. Eye of the Beholder / Lands of Lore - classic 3D tile RPGs that is basically just combat lol

6. Baldurs Gate series - arguably my personal fave and owner of collector edition xxxx out of 10,000.

7. FF7 / FF 13 series - gotta have at least one FF game in there

8. Mass effect series - didn't notice anyone mention this?

9. Most English mainstream PS3/PS4 rpg games in the past 5 yrs (dragon Age, Witcher 3, Etc)

10. All the Souls games incl Bloodborne - my current fave now and last experience was playing both versions of dark souls 2 (PS3 and ps4 ) concurrently.

yeah I know, but i heard type-0 is a pretty solid game, so am quite curious about it. So i just buy la. I stay away from the psp/ps vita/ online version of FF, and play solely on console, otherwise I don't think I have the heart to work d LOL

he got his laptop n tablet n phone to keep him company, that's why TV is MINE hahahahaha

my family all quite used to me playing game non stop when I have free time, and they get no TV. wahahahahahaha

Personally, I think those game are waaay better when I look at FFXV battle system (Dont hate me coz I am a turn based fanboy)

Lol probably slipped under my radar. I did suddenly recall the Wizardry series in particular Bane of the Cosmic Forge! Now what kind of RPGs nowadays where you have some thing ludicrous like an magic pen artifact that can write wishes and stuff as the prize. Not to mention this game at its time has 4 different endings which influences 4 different beginnings in the sequel! Note there is also a PS3 console game using the wizardry model but only in Japan I think.

Rouge Galaxy, another great RPG by the legendary Level 5 studio is currently on Flash Sales at US PS Store for USD5.99 only!
