Wow!  You use your own Wi-Fi router or Wi-Fi router provided by TIME?
*
Time did provided me with the Dlink Dir-850L router but I personally went and spent RM1000 on a new Dlink Dir-890L router. Hehe

Isn't that overkill for an apartment? Your coverage is to how many sq ft? The free router could not make it to cover whole area?

Based on my experience with the Time Fibre Broadband deployment in my development, I'm afraid that there's no one answer to your question.

A lot of the time this is due to disagreements between TIME and the apartment/condo management, and sometimes even 3rd party contractors, about whose responsibility it is to perform and pay for the 'last mile' bit of the fibre cabling. Asking around other developments at the time when my condo blocks was being wired up, it was clear that when Time says their fibre broadband is available in a development, it just means that their fibre cable has been pulled off the street and into the comms room of the respective block or blocks (usually in the basement). It's usually a grey area as to whether the cabling has been pulled up through the risers and ducted all the way to right outside each unit of each floor in a block.

If that is not sorted out between all parties involved, and you are desperate to have their broadband service, the cost of pulling the cabling up from the basement up through the riser to your unit is passed on to you, the potential subscriber. That's probably where your RM1K+ quotation is coming from... And even that sounds low, so I assume that you're living on quite a low floor in your block.

Rather than TIME, I would suggest you take up the issue with your apartment or condo management, and clarify as to why they haven't paid for fibre to be pulled up through the risers to each unit. They'll probably say that the cost is too much and cannot be justified, especially if they think the potential uptake is going to be low.. which, in my opinion, seems fair. Prudent management don't like to waste funds.

If they can even be convinced that there will be a 30% uptake, they won't hesitate to do that 'last mile'. Heck, I think then even TIME will be willing to foot the entire cost all on their own.  wink.gif

As I remember the Unifi installer told me... 1m fibre optic cable is only RM0.50? or RM2 max? They sell in a roll of 100m. Very cheap price indeed. Nowadays some electrical shops are selling fibre optic cable too. Go ask for it. hehe.

My condo unit size is about 3500 sq ft

I feel the router time provided me cant cover the entire unit thus reducing the WiFi signal strength.

Anyway I'm very happy with my router and hope it wont give me any problems in the future. smile.gif

Knowing that there will be a 24 months contract, can the plan to change during the period? eg, 300 to 100 or 100 to 300? any additional charges?

I am interested to sign up, knowing my condo do have the TIME available.

Dear Bro

Thanks for your interest in time fibre , For any upgrade during the contract there is no additional charges , anyway if there is downgrade from 300mb to 100mb , there is one month penalty charges incurred.

The current promo for new signup is one month free.

Thanks

I can get 80-90 mbps on speedtest with handphone but only 50 on PC.
When i was configuring Google DNS, i notice my IPv6 Connectivity says no Internet access. Is that the reason? How to fix it?

both through wifi and same distance from router

Most likely WiFi card specs aren't the same.

IPv6 doesn't contribute to slow speedtest result because speedtest is done via IPv4 for now.

You can enable IPv6 in your router.

I hope Time can install their network asap in Skypod condo here in Puchong.
It's a new condo and we have no choice as there is only one broadband provider. Price and speed is not competitive.

After doing some research, I think I know why my pc can't achieve the speed like my Samsung S5 handphone. I bought my Dell PC XPS 8700 at the end of 2013. By looking at the specs from internet, i gather my NIC card only supported up to 300 mbps (Wireless Protocol: 802.11b/g/n)

http://www.cnet.com/products/dell-xps-8700...-gb-2-tb/specs/

So i need a PCI Express Adapter that supported AC. But looking at some product, i
cannot tell which one will fit my hardware's slot. Do you have an idea?

http://www.techhypermart.com/networking.ht...networking=3049

Or am i totally wrong about the whole thing? sweat.gif

Hi,

If you are using Dell Wireless 1703 802.11 b/g/n, it can't support 5GHz frequency.

Eventhough, try adusting channels & update to the latest drivers might help to improve the performance, though not much.

Yes, advisable to get an AC adapter as shown on the online store.. according to your budget...go for AC1750 & above.

Thanks.

Hi jjj2,
Since we are discussing DNS in this topic, i would like to shared the problem that i have encountered.
I have just got my router upgraded to Linksys EA6350. Basically the router was functioned as it is but the static DNS setting is not working meaning no matter what you set under Connectivity -> Local Network -> DHCP Server -> Static DNS 1, 2, 3. The device that connected to the router will always use the DNS provided by TIME (Ignoring the Static DNS that has been set in the Router). I'm able to set the static DNS in my old router E1000.

Anyone facing the same issue ?
I have write to TIME but haven't get any reply from them.

Hi Bro,

Yes you are right, this has been a known bug for EA6350, may I know are you running v1.0.4 (Build 164719) (HW v1) ?

This has nothing to do with TIME. Instead, we have reported this to Linksys Engineering team...feedback gotten was this was specially designed in such a way to allow the access to linksyssmartwifi.com URL actually points to the router rather than to the cloud server.
The Router will cache the DNS & whatever clients that connected to it will be seeing 192.168.1.1 (assuming this is Router gateway address)..

Try to reset the router, reconfigure the PPPOE Internet connection settings manually, and set in your desired DNS settings...click Apply & OK, then only connect the network cable from ONU to EA6350 WAN port.
Try again.

Another known bug in (HWv1, v1.0.4 build 164719) is the Wireless 5GHz band issue, undetectable..
By enabling 5GHz, 2.4GHz channel Wifi will show Authentication Error.. Turning it off, 2.4GHz is fine...but poor performance.
Also 5GHz channels wrongly coded into 2.4GHz Channels settings...

Still waiting for Linksys to patch these bugs.

Thanks.
