I bought one of my radio from ebay, but that the most expensive one I've ever bought.. if you're importing stuff, anything that cost > RM400 will surely get an attention from the customs.. and if it is .. then you need to get an AP and stuff from SIRIM. AP doesn't cost much but testing fees will set you back RM200++ poorer ..

Hello,
Anyone taking the RAE this wednesday, 16dec09?

I'm looking for study partner or experience people whom I can discuss with.
By the way, i shared some sample papers in my blog.

Thanks.

What a 'seminar' you went there .. hehe.. Before you could get an AP, SIRIM needs to verify that the radio can be used here.. hence the 'testing'. SIRIM is the one that will issue you the electronic AP, no idea of other region but for central region, you need to go to SIRIM HQ at Shah Alam.

AP = Approved Permit .. if you're importing certain goods from overseas, you need to have this AP before you could do clearance with customs. If you're buying goods already in Malaysia, no point asking for AP .. you could however smuggle your radio in .. as long as you pass the customs w/o problem .. than you're okay .. hehe.. unless you done something stupid and got caught smile.gif

Seminar RAE by MCMC itself tongue.gif The presenter were "man belon" iirc (9w2rnj) and 2 of the mcmc. they talks about basic amateur radio, rules n regulation during exam and "e-spektrum" (basically to renew ur AA by online). Argh..still not prepare for the exam sweat.gif

As always, incomplete information were given during this kind of seminar. Since I've went through the process of importing a radio before, I believe the info given by me is a first hand information..

Psstt.. whatever you read from that blog, it is just the OM's opinion and not represent the rest of ham radio operators across Malaysia. Whatever good, take it as an example, whatever bad.. just skip it.. This is the same OM who said that the had enough with ham radio operators in Malaysia and he wanted to quite, but .. he..hee.. he was gone for few months but surely, once you're a ham, you surely itchy to pickup your mic and start chatting and chatting.. he came back on the freqs again last month (or was it a month before) ..

Another psstt... I have nothing against him, personally .. but some of his views are not in line with mine.. smile.gif

Read on .. and have fun .. but OM as he is .. talked about yester years .. talking about how great it was 40 years ago .. they're useless .. guess what, when I go back to my kampung and meet my grandma, she will continue talking how good it was years ago when she was young .. non-stop.. (opss she is 80+ now..) .. the same with this OM. He was talking about MARTS, how great it was .. and asking the young "9M2" to take the lead .. oh.. common .. why 9M2? Why not 9M6/8 or even 9W2/6/8? In this borderless world .. meeting can be done over the YM or facebook.. nothing much to differentiate the 9M and 9W nowdays other than one that pass the CW .. which has become absolute already.

GOOD LUCK and best wishes to everyone taking the RAE today. More power to Wiraone's daughter.

BTW, news been circulating around that the commercial band from 138.xxx to 143.999 would be withdrawn and there wouldn't be any such band from 2010 onwards. Anyone got any ideas on this planned rulling?

I heard this too .. but nothing much coming from mcmc officially. Probably will only affect radio clubs but not companies.
