Here's some articles about fan bearings.

basics of fan bearings

ball vs sleeve bearing

another ball vs sleeve bearing article

AFAIK, sleeve bearings when mounted as top fan, the lubricant will not be able to lubricate the bearing since it isn't sealed thus will shorten the life of the fan. OTOH other bearing other than sleeve might have some kind of sealing so that the bearing will stay lubricated even when mounted as top fan.

if you want push pull setup, might as well get the cm xtraflow 120 red but you might need pwm splitter cable lol.

pwm splitter cables ebay

is this the fore mentioned splitter cable?

thanks

Hey guys , is side fans important? i know that side fans cools more on the gpu, but without it would the temps of gpu cool as well? cause i liked some case, but they dont come with side fans slots. rclxub.gif and any recommendation for case fans? 120mm or 140mm.

Thanks

Side fan is important if you are using high performance GPU. though mainstream gpu already can produce a lot of heat, eg GTX 560Ti.
without side panel fans, the heat produced by your GPU will circulating inside the casing and will increase the ambient temp of your casing.

one side fan is already enough, either 1200/1600RPM, or 45 to 60CFM fans.
Case fan most ppl would recommend Arctic F12, cause its cheaper than other fans tongue.gif

Do be careful that depending on the rigidity of your chassis, a powerful side fan will cause unwanted vibrations and generate noise... further to that, side panels are normally not filtered so dust might enter easily from there straight to your GPU

Ppl here choose the F12 mainly because it has a good value/performance and CFM/Noise ratios.. they are not cheap per-se but rather affordable compared to other fans of similar class

Yea they are not cheap. D:
help me out here,
i'm thinking of a CM elite 430 budget case, and getting a hyper evo 212. and spend more on case fans
or without the hyper evo 212 and case fans ( just going to use the stock fan provided) and spend more on the chassis?
any advice? would there be lots of temp diff?

Well that depends....
do you have an OC system? cause if you don't then the Hyper 212 can wait

IMHO its better to spend more on the chassis cause thats the main thing aside from the monitor that you'll be looking at most everytime you're using your PC... aside from that, a better quality chassis will also be sturdier and they tend to last longer... and also quieter I might add, especially if you intend to place fans on the side panel... a flimsy side panel will shake, rattle & vibrate causing unwanted noise on top of the fan's "whoosh" sound

a thing to note here is that, the more fans you add, the more noisy your system will be, dust is also an issue here and yes IMHO a better chassis will help with the temperatures icon_rolleyes.gif

Of course is the 200mm fan with 700RPM speed is better, low RPM = low noise, and bigger fan blades = more CFM, but depend of the fan design, bearing ect.
Smaller fan usually need to spin at higher speed to produce same/more CFM than bigger fan.

Overclocked?? the temps are ok on MAX IMHO but looks weird on idle, was it like this with the original fan? I'm using Hyper 212+ with dual Artic F12s and here is my temp

[attachmentid=3115823]

what chassis are you using?

im not into OC. When with original fan, it goes higher than that...
now im open my side panel and it goes a little bit cooler...minimum is 47c...

how you get your cpu temp to that number?
and my casing is CM Elite 411?? (forget the number)

u mean elite 311?
this one right??

the Artic F12 is better than the CM Blademaster so you'll definitely get cooler temps..

I can achieve those temps cause the PC room is in the cooler part of the house and I only get to use it at night. The HWMonitor u see now is taken when the system is inside a CM 690II Advanced with 9 fans icon_rolleyes.gif

Added on October 23, 2012, 12:13 pmanyhow is your room hot by any chance?

my room dont have air-conditioner. i just have table fans. and my pc running 24/7...

planning to mod my side panel and put 200m fans..but have problem since my heat sink just near the side panel...maybe i can lower it a bit...

and i only have 1 intake, 1 exhaust and 2 fans push/pull at CPU..
seems need to add more fan if want to get the temp like you...

my casing CM Elite 430
