From their website: http://www.mazda.com/en/innovation/technology/env/i-stop/

While conventional idling stop systems rely on a starter motor to restart the engine, Mazda's i-stop restarts the engine through combustion; fuel is directly injected into a cylinder while the engine is stopped and ignited to generate downward piston force. The result is a quick and quiet engine re-start compared to other systems and a significant saving in fuel.

To restart the engine by combustion, the compression-stroke and expansion-stroke pistons need to be stopped at exactly the correct positions to create the right balance of air volumes. Mazda's i-stop ensures precise control over the piston positions during engine shutdown. With all the pistons stopped at the optimum positions, the system then identifies the initial cylinder for fuel injection. It injects fuel and ignites it to restart the engine. Even at extremely low rpm, cylinders are identified for sequential ignition, making the engine quickly pick up to idling speed.

These technologies enable the system to restart the engine with exactly the same timing every time, to enhance fuel economy, and to deliver smooth and comfortable acceleration for the driver at restart. The restart takes place in a mere 0.35 seconds (internal measurement on vehicle with automatic transmission), which is about half of the time taken by conventional starter-motor idling stop systems.

But the 3rd diagram shows the starter motor rotating and the caption says "combustion + (starter) motor assist"... hmm.gif

OK....in:

http://www2.mazda.com/en/csr/environment/s...2009_02_01.html

It has a similar diagram to the one posted earlier....and somewhere in the text, it says.."The starter motor is operated to assist engine restarting, but using mainly combustion power for restarting requires less time and reduces power consumption."

So, the starter motor IS USED...but it uses less energy than a normal 'cold' start...

do anyone selling OEM parts, ATF, FL22 coolant, cabin filters, air filters and so on? Mazda SC is charging over price stuff.

we do have after market works engineering air filter, washable

but 5 out ot 5 m3 owners isnt reli interested cause most get the free service, which changes the air filter for free too laugh.gif

cabin air filter is so easy to change in the 3rd gen mazda compare to 2nd gen. Our air quality is bad, changing it every 1 year would be nice. I prefer to use all OEM parts during warranty period to avoid all the blame game from SC. As usual when something happen, they will say we change this and change that.

My 10k service in one of the new SC in KL is utterly disappointed. The service dude even add tap water to my coolant for top up, he should use demineralized water. Did MAZDA or BERMAZ train the staff at all?

interior and exterior wise is the same, the things that is missing is the active safety system, xenon headlight and LED taillight, the wheel for low spec is 16" while high spec is 18"

airbag should be the same if i'm not mistaken

active safety features include:
- lane departure warning
- adaptive headlight system
- bi-xenon auto leveling
- rear view monitoring
- smart city brake
- rain sensing wiper

low spec dont have paddle shifter as well, only can shift from the gear knob

why you dont read the spec sheet? shakehead.gif

Only the gps? What about smart tag? GPS is usually less problematic than smart tag. Did they claim these signals can get through before you tint?

One solution is to cut a credit card size hole in the tinting but this is the last resort.

Smart tag is fine. I never thought about the gps so I didn't ask them at first. But they say no prob with smart tag.
Phone gps is fine just the mzd gps can't locate my location at all.

Where should I cut the hole? Any one know where is the maxda 3 gps antenna?

behind the CMU, there is a speaker like cover, once you removed it you will see the GPS module, you sure the GPS is working fine before you install tint?

Definitely. As im using the GPS to the tint shop and only realize the problem in the night.
They ask to wait 2 weeks for the glue to be dried up first.
But i dont think anyhow related. Lets see how lo then. bangwall.gif

I tinted whole section of the wind screen, just make sure the dotted sections ( rear mirror unit) is not covered. I usually manually place the smart tag at those dotted section very time. I m using 3M crystalline 60. My 1st installation was crystalline 90 but it was too hot and it burn my face under hot sunny days, have to remove it and install the 60 instead ( $$$$ wasted)

GPS is able to pick up, like i said, just make sure u do not cover the dotted section next the rear mirror unit then you are safe
Observation compare 90 and 60 for GPS signal, detection speed is negligible. I found WAZe or googleMap is much more convenient than MZD GSP.

Just make sure you tint does not contain metals ( V-kool elite which i ve been using for 6 years is pain in the @ss because it just does not pick up GPS sometimes affect my auto gate as well)

I hope my explanation clear you doubts

Sometimes its more convenient to use the mzd gps like when im heading home, or want to find any petrol station along the road.
Hopefully its fine after 2 weeks else i might consider to retint the windscreen. Spend almost 3k for this v-kool elite.
Sad die. ><
