I see, I must've seen an older one then.
Does that mean Yamaha can go louder but not as nice as Marantz/Denon?

as i remember the sound become very sharp. still not enough bass kick. i test yamaha 3 and 4 entry series only.

aventage model will be different (i guess) as many sifu here satisfy with blasting setup.

I see. I think lower end Yamaha models always have problems with bass. Someone told me once that its because of lower voltage from the sub preout, not sure if this is true though.

Yamaha sub preouts are often times only 1.0v, aventage models or not.

Many of today's digital amps on subwoofers have a sensitivity of 1.2v to 1.5v on the input, so having only 1v supplied to them, the usual "12 oclock" gain is often times not enough (again, placement matters). So, just turn the damn dial to 3 oclock, problem fixed. The sub isn't going to explode, because if it does then that sub is just a fart box to begin with.

just hook up the speaker wires to an amp / AVR. as simple as that.
for safety, check you the impedance rating (in ohm) at the back of each speaker. if it's between 4ohm to 10 ohm, you should be fine.

newer generations of Yamaha have ditched 7.1 analog input.
for pioneer, the LX-8# is over your budget.
denon doesn't have it as the unit with 7.1 analog inputs are reserved for marantz.
with RM4500 budget, can try marantz SR6011.

i all. i just got myself a yamaha home threater system. the speakers come with white wires hence i am confused with one should be connected to positive and which one should be connected to negative

one of the wire pair has a colour striped line. i read in some websites that the striped colour indicate negative while some other web sites wrote it indicates positive. now i am confused. can anyone here offer any advice? smile.gif

Don't know where the myth started that you have to match colors to colors.

What matters is that you match the positive to positive and negative to negative to avoid polarity issues. The cable color doesn't matter because all it does is transport current to the speakers from the amp, they are still copper underneath their jacket. There are some custom cables that are wired only one way, but that's a whole different topic so don't worry about that.

The stripes/colors/shape of a speaker cable pair doesn't matter, they exist just to remind the user which terminal the cable is connected to.

So basically, the striped portion of your cable can go to + or -, it doesn't matter. You just make sure that if you connect it to + on the amp/receiver, you then connect it to the + terminal on the speaker. Repeat the same for all speakers.

What SSJBen said.

If there's no +/- or red/black sign behind the speaker (depending on models, speaker wire can go fully into the cabinet), you need to test with a 9v battery. (google search speaker polarity test using battery)
