Would it be dangerous to the PC(overheating) if we use some kind of cheapo TIM or doesnt even use TIM at all?
*
use cheapo TIM! not dangerous at all if the temp is not high, i'm using a cheapo TIM, the temp are low, Idle 37°C & Load 43°C (Conroe E6600) tongue.gif

Not even using TIM at all! dunno bout that, never tried it b4, but i'm pretty sure u must have a hell flat hsf base to do that... smile.gif

Overheating? meaning the proc temp is slightly higher than it's normal temp, is it? if yes, than no problem ma, the proc can withstand it for few years... biggrin.gif

btw, what's the normal temp for E6600? blink.gif

Actually, does good TIM like AS5, when applied to stock cooling, would be able to help reduce temperature better than normal cheapo TIM or the difference is minimal?I was planning to applied some to my current stock Galaxy 7300GT cooler in hope that it will be able to reduce the temperature.Current temperature is 54c.

So, is it advisable to change the TIM of the GC to AS5?Or maybe just leave it as what it is now?

how long u been using the gc, if still new better leave it for now, when all dust accumulate on the gc heatsink, u can apply the AS5 after u take it off for cleaning rclxms.gif

Well, around 6months maybe? Its about the launching time of 7300GT.Got the first batch from Galaxy that comes with the stock cooler...I was thinking of cooling it down abit more (currently at 53c idle) and was hoping that the AS5 could do the job at the moment until i change a better VGA cooler...

wait.correct me if im wrong but i thought using AS5 for gpu core isint recommended?cuz the core doesnt have an IHS and AS5 is like metallic and may short circuit the whole card if the as5 touches other than the core? unsure.gif

Really? sweat.gif O..then i should cancel off my plan though..But sniper69 said in the 7series thread that he had replace the stock TIM with AS5 and it doesnt seem to have any problem yet...

you are correct in some sense BUT if you applies the as5 carefully, your card will be fine. remember to use the a drop of grain method when applying the as5.
