Or must use 40%? no...wrong conceptu must use pure alcohol or alcohol+water based solvent. u want to clean the thermal paste, and you wouldn't want to leave any residue on the heatsink base or on the cpu surface |

Something bad happened when i took off my northbridge cooler yesterday. The stock Zalman paste that come with my nb cooler which was only applied for maybe 1 month+ had hardened and stick to the nb.Clean it off using TIM remover. The one thing i was not sure is that is it usual for TIM to hardened so quickly (in around 1month) or the Zalman paste is really that cheapo?

it's normal for the thermal paste to become hard and tough to dismantle. i would advise you warm up the whole hsf, let the hsf become hot so the paste will be soften.

I experience difficulties when removing the HS when the sink base isnt evenly lapped or the CPU surface has a sink in the center , i mean its like a suction between the HS and CPU IHS . Even the with the HS heated up , i still cant remove the way its suppose to be removed , sometimes i pull the HS out with the CPU stickin with the socket locked .
Plus my CPU IHS center isnt flat , there is a sink in the center as the edges always scratch my HSF surface . |

Would it be dangerous to the PC(overheating) if we use some kind of cheapo TIM or doesnt even use TIM at all?
